What a gorgeous hotel! The remodeled lobby with the elegant chandeliers is something to marvel at. The staff were very nice, too. All the restaurants on site that I tried were delicious. It's evident that this chain prides itself on great food. The rooms are modern and beautiful with exceptionally comfy beds. (I slept soundly all three nights). The pool no longer exists here. There is a very nice sauna and exercise room, though. This won't effect most people, but if you are here for a convention, the food provided in the ballrooms is bad (from my experience). I have no idea why, since the restaurant fare here is so good! The location is perfect. You can see the Washington Memorial from the hotel room.

I made a reservation and received an email confirmation from JW Marriott Washington DC for 5/25/19 to 5/27/19 for my family vacation during the Memorial Holiday weekend. All of the family members were excited for the first-time visit to DC until Marriott made the trip a nightmare vacation. On the 5/25, while driving into DC, I called the Marriott to tell them that we would have a late check-in, the front desk operator told me that I was supposed to check in 5/26, not 5/25. I gave her the confirmation number but she insisted that I was supposed to check in on 5/26 then transferred me to the Marriott reservation staff, who said that he found my reservation for 5/25 to 5/27, but the local hotel had changed it and he didn’t know why. I was putting me on hold many times while he tried to resolve the problem with the local Marriott. After approximately one hour sitting in the car on a side road, all I got was sorry there was no room left. It was late in the evening and the situation worsened because of the Memorial holiday weekend, there was no available hotel in DC that night. I opted to drive to Virginia to find a hotel or the whole family would have to sleep in the car. By midnight, we checked in a hotel in Virginia. We missed our dinner reservation and had to rearrange all planned schedule, tours, and pre-made reservations for the holiday weekend. I then called Marriott that night, explaining the situation and cancelled the “changed reservation on 5/26” because it made no sense to unpack, sleep for a few hours, then repack and drive back to DC to check in at the JW Marriott Washington on 5/26. I then received and email from Marriott confirmed the cancellation. After we returned home, I found out that Marriott charged my credit card the full price for the cancelled reservation on 5/26. I then called Marriott and was told that the hotel could still charge me because of late cancellation (cancellation was made at about midnight on 5/25), regardless of the situation or confirmed cancellation. After spending a lot of effort and wasted so much time to fight for unreasonable charge, Marriott refunded the money. However, it was not the money that I complained. It seems like there were two uncoordinated systems within Marriott, a world reputable hotel. Marriott made an error and my family paid for the price with a nightmare vacation. Marriott Confirmations do not guarantee anything. Customer service was terrible. So disappointed from Marriott Bonvoy Elite member!!!

We strive for excellence in all that we do; hence your detailed remarks have been shared with our management team for further evaluation and to ensure that procedures are in place to prevent this type of incident from happening again. We stayed here because it looked nice and we wanted to walk to all the attractions. We could walk to the White House, Washington Monument, Smithsonian, took the metro to the Capitol, etc... the hotel is really in a great location. Walk to almost anything. We stayed over the 4th of July weekend, so naturally we asked for an upper floor room overlooking the Washington Monument in hopes to see fireworks. From the room we had, we could see the monument a few blocks away, and the fireworks were off to the side and pretty cool. The downside was that this room was overlooking a small park, or square next to the hotel, and at night a DJ set up in the square and played dance hits and rap music as a few people danced to it. It was extremely loud, thudding, and went on past 11:00pm. If you're a light sleeper, this was hell. So if you book a room facing the Washington Monument, ask the front desk if the DJ is playing in the adjacent square on the nights you're there. And really, if you don't get a Monument view, some of the other views aren't that great. My friend booked a room facing the dismal inside courtyard, if you could call it that. It was nothing but a few dreary tables surrounded by a concrete canyon of walls. I don't even think the fountain was working. Anyway, the hotel was clean, the breakfast buffet was good, location is great. Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Yes I would stay there again, but hope the DJ wasn't thumping in the square outside at night.

This was a great hotel to stay for a weekend getaway in DC. We had early tickets (7 am) to tour the White House and since the metro wouldn’t run early enough on the weekend to get there from the suburbs we changed our plans and stayed here. Great location, just one block to the White House and close to all other attractions in the mall area. Will definitely use this location again.

Nice place to stay and sight see. Central location and walking distances to musuem, white house. Staff were very courteous and nice. Definitely would stay again. Rooms are of decent size. Only thing I believe should be changed, is the price of valet parking.
