I got upgraded to a better room. The staff is supportive. Restaurants are within walking distance and I was able to walk to my office at Farragut Square. I always stay here when I visit DC whether personal or business.

Initially, I had a hotel booked within walking distance of the White House and National Mall but after reading reviews about the street noise and lack of dining options in the evening, I changed to a more central location. The Holiday Inn Central on Rhode Island Ave was the ideal location! I loved the area. It was central to everything we did. I liked that we had many great restaurant options within walking distance because after a busy day, we did not feel like using an Uber/taxi or public transportation again. We loved the feel of the neighborhood. The architecture was beautiful. We had great meals at Logan Tavern, Lloriana and Phillips. The Whole Foods and CVS around the corner were great.
The hotel - rooms were very clean and modern with a Keurig coffee machine , mini frig and microwave. The staff was excellent! Frankie goes above and beyond. We had a question about walking to a location. She walked with us outside to make sure we were going in the correct direction then told us to call her if we get lost! She remembers your name and will ask how you day went. If you need a taxi, the staff outside will whistle and hail a taxi for you. Everything about the customer service was excellent.
The cost to stay at this hotel compared to others closer to the White House was almost half and I can't imagine we could have had a better experience elsewhere.
On a side note, it is still possible to walk to most of the Smithsonian musuems and White House. They are about 1 to 1.5 miles away. We used a combination of walking and Uber/Taxi/Lyft.

small bathroom

I liked that it wasn't super far from everything. We could walk a few blocks or we could Uber and the Uber wasn't super expensive (under $10). I liked that it has a secure parking lot so random people off the street could not enter it. I liked the security for the elevators - they were the same way. You had to use your hotel card to get in the elevators and also the bathrooms on the first floor. The bed in our hotel room was comfortable. The hotel was quiet. We didn't hear traffic or outside noises. It was great for sleeping. Our view wasn't too bad. I loved that the room had plenty of storage space to keep luggage out of the walkway. I liked the sofa that pulled out into an extra bed. It was comfortable. I liked that the room had a microwave, extra sink, and mini-fridge. I liked that it had an extra blanket and pillow as well. The hotel staff was very friendly too. There is a 7 Eleven and Whole Foods not far from the hotel which are great options for snacks, etc. It seemed pretty safe in our hotel and surrounding area. Our stay preferences we had picked out on the app were granted. Also, since we were a gold member we got the option of two amenities (drink or points) which was nice.

what do you think would make your stay better?
I would have liked for the bathrooms to be bigger. The couch wasn't super comfortable to sit on nor was the chair (non office one). There was an extra blanket in the room but I would have liked to have a thicker blanket already on the bed. The sheet and comforter were super thin. The price to park the car each day was $47 dollars which is pricey to me compared to paying $0 in 95% of other places we visit. We would have liked to have had a free breakfast as we have had in other Holiday Inn's. Parking spots are definitely small.

Guest insights like yours are invaluable to our team. It's wonderful to hear that you rested well on our cozy beds and that our location was just what you were looking for. We know that our team will be delighted to hear you appreciated their warm hospitality. Thank you for the suggestion regarding the bedding. We will keep this in mind when making future improvements. It's our pleasure to offer secure parking here in the city. We do our best to keep our rates competitive for the area as it can be difficult to come by and at a premium rate. Thank you for choosing Holiday Inn Washington DC - Central / White House. It would be an honor to host you again in the future.

I live near this hotel. My immediate and extended family stay here often. This Holiday Inn is immaculately maintained:
*hotel rooms are fully renovated and refreshed on a regular basis; and
*hotel staff are professional and resourceful.
Weekend rates - excellent value! Weekday rates are higher given the location and demand.

Recently stayed for a few nights on business. The hotel was the only reasonably priced accommodation within walking distance of downtown and it was worth it. The hotel is older but the rooms are renovated and modern. All the necessities present. On site dining is available but the trendy new food district and Whole Foods is on the next block so loads of options. Parking is really expensive there however. 12 minute walk to subway and most can be accomplished on foot. Friendly staff and all amenities you could need.

Was apprehensive about this booking noting quite a few
negative reviews. Glad we didn’t change our booking, happy
with our stay.

Booked the full breakfast rate, ended up with $15 voucher each daily
which can be used at nearby restaurants. Good value as you can save them up
and go all out for dinner etc.

Coffee machine downstairs was good, also bottled water available at the rooftop
pool. Great place to relax prior to sunset.

Complimentary laundry was also appreciated, 2 washing machines
and 2 dryers. Ask for a room on the 9th floor if you have dirty clothes.

Housekeeping was good.

Couple of gripes.
1. Some of the reception staff could learn about customer service.
Made you fell as you were interrupting their phone/online time.
2. Had to get the swipe card redone 4 times during our 5 night stay.

At the beginning when we checked in they informed us about Johnny rockets. We were hungry so we ate there , it took 30 minutes to get seated while there were all open seats because the staff was socializing. The “fresh water” tasted like tap water. We got our food and noticed none of the staff was wearing hair nets and hair in my food. When I looked on the website it said that “kids eat free” but charged us for my kids. In our room there was crumbs in our bed the view was awful. The ice machine on the 8th floor was broken-not plugged in. We called the front desk and ask for ice and they said “I don’t know” and hung up. The website listed that they had a pool but staff didn’t mention anything about it. Overall the pillows were nice and a good location, and that was the only good part. Honestly I would not recommend going here.

Pleasant place, centrally located, clean but basic. Fun rooftop pool. No frills but a positive experience. Comfy beds. Pleasant helpful staff, free washer / dryer use if needed. Housekeeping wouldn’t service the room despite reminders, nor would they deliver fresh towels to the room; had to pick them up

Ambria, at the front desk was continually friendly, helpful, courteous & professional. The hotel was clean & well-located. We were able to walk to many of the D.C. landmarks. It was also convenient to a variety of restaurants. There was a Johnny Rockets restaurant within the hotel. A very nice breakfast buffet was offered every morning for a reasonable added price. Our room was clean & comfortable. We appreciated having a coffee maker (well-stocked), a safe, plentiful towels, an ironing board & iron. The shower was strong & hot with good quality bath supplies. The hotel provided a well-stocked gift shop, a gym, a comfortable sitting area in the lobby & computers & printer for guest use. We were very pleased with our stay.

We needed to visit Washington during the UK Schools Summer Holidays and wanted a hotel near the centre of Washington, in order to visit a friend who had a serious health condition, which was comfortable and was not going to cost us an arm and a leg.The Holiday Inn was ideal, being in a quiet area about 10 minutes walk from a Subway Station.
The rooms were of a good size, comfortable, clean, quiet and the air conditioning was very effective.
There is a small fitness gym and the swimming pool on the roof was a real bonus, being clean with towels supplied and there was a member of staff present. We also appreciated the supply of chilled water and free coffee in Reception.
Service was excellent, Reception staff were welcoming and efficient and happy to help with any questions while housekeeping staff were happy to work around our busy schedule

Unfortunately, the one reliable service went out of business last month. From Dulles, we now recommend a car hire service such as Uber or Lyft, pr a taxi which can be found on the lower level near baggage claim.
