The Harrington was our go-to hotel for years, but it had been quite a while since our last visit. It’s still old, but it doesn’t seem any older or worn-out than it did a decade ago. (At least some carpets have been replaced recently, so effort is going into maintaining it.) It is in a great location for sight-seeing – safe neighborhood and you can walk everywhere and metro stations are nearby. It also offers what is probably has the cheapest parking you’ll find in DC – certainly the cheapest near the Mall. And it’s still family-owned, which is cool. But it is an old hotel that has never been fully renovated, so keep your expectations in check. (My rating is based on what one should expect of a hotel in this location at this price.) We ended up with a huge corner room. The curtains were sufficient, but really need replacing. The windows actually open, so we could control the temperature a little. (There’s no temperature control in the rooms.) The wifi was decent (better than I was expecting) and easy to connect to. And I love that they have hot pots instead of coffee pots, because I can make tea that doesn’t taste like coffee. (Coffee drinkers may not love that so much.) The desk, however, was very tiny and located far from any outlets – although that will vary with each room. It's a good value for the money, but you have to be ok with things being a little old and creaky.

Hotel's Favorite
My wife and two sons (both aged 13) just came home from a 6-night stay at this hotel and we couldn't have been more pleased. I am a faithful follower of Trip Adivsor reviews when we are planning trips anywhere. After reading some of the negative reviews and then experiencing the hotel myself, I must say I now understand them but don't agree. I feel the negative reviews calling the hotel dirty and dingy and dark are juding the hotel by the wrong standards. This isn't a 5-star hotel. It may have been back in the day, but it's a 3-star hotel. Now, my wife and I generally look for 3-star hotels as we spend very little time in the hotel outside of changing clothes, bathing and sleep. So we are basically looking for something clean and comfortable and if there's breakfast thrown in, that's a bonus. We had a room on the 10th floor. It was called a suite but was really two room, but still perfect for our family. One room had two twin beds where our boys stayed, and our room had a queen bed. A huge bonus was both rooms had full baths with a big deep bathtub (needed for soaking each night after all the walking we did daily) with shower and toilet. The beds were comfy and there were no issues with water pressure or temperature. One con, you cannot control the temperature in your room. Our room was not hot or uncomfortable by any means but I like to sleep cold at night. Other than that, it was a great value, the staff were all nice and helpful. And there are tons of restaurants within walking distance as well as easy access to Metro. The hotel is centrally located and within walking distance of the National Mall and White House and most museums. You could not ask for a better location. We would definitely stay here again.

PROS: The location couldn’t be better! Walking distance to all the main attractions and shops. Also, must not that the hot water in the shower was great! CONS: The staff are so rude!!! The first night the occupant in the room next to me had his tv blaring all night. It was on from 5pm all through the night until after 9am when I left for the day. I notified the front desk that it was disturbing and I got got hardly any sleep. The woman was very rude and made me feel like it was my fault because I didn’t call the front desk. I was not notified upon check-in that it was 24/7 reception. Check-in and check-out we’re not pleasant either. The only thing this place has going for it is the location. Summary, you get what you pay for. This is a 3 start hotel and it looks like one. It’s kept it’s old style well.

I don’t really know where to start. Just don’t stay here. I stayed here for a school trip and me and my friends have left with bites all over our legs, infections with piercings from the water. The beds were full of hair that was not ours and there was a few disturbing things on the walls, blankets and paintings around the room. Harriet’s diner looked haunted and the hotel rooms didn’t have locks on them.

I have just stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. Its an old hotel from the 1920's so don't expect any bells and whistles. Although the rooms were clean with basic necessities; I had a refrigerator but no microwave. The location is great, you can walk to The White House in 2 minutes, they have a few restaurants in their hotel also. The downside, I FROZE all night. The hotel regulates the temperature as they do not have central air units and you have no control of the temperature. The air conditioner was so low, I was freezing. The lady at the front desk said someone can come and close your vent, so I took upon myself to close the vent, It did not help as cold air was pouring in the room. I have to take small towels and tissues and stuff it in the vent to stop the air from coming in. It worked and my second night I was fine. If you like to have control of your air and heat then do not come to this hotel. Compared to other hotels in DC area, this one is one of the cheapest for room rates. I can imagine, it must be very cold in the rooms in winter time depending what they set it at. I will never come here again. I rather spend more more and be comfortable than freeze my tail off. The hotel as I mentioned has a few perks but nothing special.

This charming hotel is in the heart of everything. Super pet friendly. Didn't even charge a fee. The staff is so nice, very accommodating and let us have an early check in. The bar is great, outdoor patio. They even let me bring my dog to sit with me while I had a few cocktails. Very very clean and comfortable. Will always stay here. Nothing bad to say at all. Parking garage 2 blocks away for $23 a day. That was probably the only inconvenience, and there is literally nowhere for your dog to go to the bathroom outside. Had to use pee pads.

Hidden gem! Wonderful for a little pet friendly hotel. It’s not pretentious, a little dated but that kind of gives it its charm. Excellent location, friendly staff and the room was HUGE. There was just 4 of us and our two dogs and there were 4 twin beds and a double bed, a huge closet and it was quiet. It reminded me a lot of an old dorm room set up. Like I said, outdated but clean! Harry’s diner down stairs is excellent. The only thing was the bed wasn’t too comfy (but not awful) and only one pillow per person. Otherwise, I would definitely stay here again for the price. Oh and NO pet fees! :)

Great location to everything. Place tries to keep that old charm look but it is very dated. We checked in late and had to fend for ourselves to get into the parking facility. I wouldn’t recommend the eatery, Harry’s. Just felt dingy. I’d probably pick a different place to stay next time.

You have no control over the room temperature. It is a building wide system. There are not enough hangers unless you only wear shorts. I had something disappear from my room and housekeeping swears they had nothing to do with it. Stay out on a Metro line to save money. Don't stay here!
