My daughters, wife and I stayed here for two nights to see the cherry blossoms. It was a last minute trip. The hotel has been recently converted to a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, so there have been some changes in the lobby. We received a friendly greeting. We happened to have a wheelchair at the time. Every time we entered the hotel, someone offered to carry it down the stairs, even though they have a lift.

The hotel is in a great neighborhood in Dupont Circle. Lots of stuff to see in the neighborhood that is not your normal tourist fare. I was able to go for runs along the creek a mile or so away, and run all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial and back. We walked to dinner both nights.

The restaurant was closed, so they had set up an attendant serving complimentary coffee and providing pastries. It was a nice touch during these covid days!

Rooms are quiet because most face inwards toward a courtyard. You still get a lot of light but not much sound.

I wanted to sit on the rooftop level to do a conference call but it was closed, sadly. Oh well.

Everything was within walking distance. The bus stop was literally out front and the subway was 1 block away. The rooms were clean. We requested a frig and it came at no extra cost. There is a $28 per day resort fee but they give you breakfast vouchers so it does not cost anything. The area is quite pricy but most of the things to see and do are free so it evens out. Because of the worker shortage, you must ask for housekeeping. We did not need it but did ask for more shampoo and coffee. This is a great place and the staff was so kind.

Travelled to the Ven on a Sunday from the UK earlier in June.
Arrived into Dulles Airport and paid about 60 dollars in an Uber to the hotel. Being a weekend the traffic was light.
The reception area had a nice buzz about it and the staff recognised that we had travelled for many hours. Check in was swift and room keys given.
The room was spacious and stylish. I couldn't fault the room or comfort. We had a twin room (double double).
After a freshen up we headed to the rooftop and enjoyed a cold drink.
Views over the city and a lovely swimming pool and some tables and chairs and some sunbeds (and a bar).
We only really used the hotel as a base to explore the city, but were really glad that this was the hotel we chose.
Another real bonus was that the expected 'resort fee' has apparently been scrapped so that saved us over 60 dollars per room.
Bars and restaurants in the area were close to walk to.
We travelled around by Uber on the whole to speed things up (and were fortunate being a group of 4 so the bill was split four ways).
Travelled on from Ronal Regan Airport to Fort Lauderdale. The ride was 25 dollars and about 15 mins.

A great hotel in a great location and we managed to get it at a really good price.

I wish I could rate The Ven higher, but in the end, I'm warning people away from staying here. The lobby is beautiful and the blue leather-ish walls in the rooms are nice, but that's where the praise ends.

When you check in, they act as if they're giving away freebies like a bag and a friendship bracelet - but then when you check out and are in a rush to depart, that's when they slap you with a "resort fee." EVERY guest must pay it even if you didn't use the gym or any of the facilities. It was a ridiculous rate. You have to pay this ON TOP OF the price you paid for the room.

The rooms themselves are problematic. Despite my Marriott Bonvoy status, they booked me in the smallest room possible, and only when I complained that the toilet lid was broken and that the room was too small did they put me in a larger room. But both the shower handle and the door spring of the new room were broken. Based on other reviewer comments, it seems that they neglect the rooms' basic functional items, but make the lobby shiny and pretty. It's backwards.

I don't recommend staying here. Choose a different boutique hotel or a regular chain hotel where you can count on no hidden "resort" fees (what a joke, this was no resort) and where things in your room aren't all broken.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this review. I appreciate your thoughts on your stay and your room, even though they aren't as positive as I would like! For the destination fee, I will remind the front desk to state that the tote and goodies are part of the destination fee package so that there is no feeling of "gotcha" at check out, as you experienced here. That is never our intention and we have made sure to communicate the fee prior to the completion of the booking and also on emailed confirmations. We include a food and beverage voucher per day that equals the amount of the fee paid, and those vouchers can be used for breakfast daily, grab and go from the market or for dinner or drinks. I hope that you were able to use the vouchers to get the best value during your visit. Regarding the maintenance items in both of the guest rooms you were assigned, I apologize for those issues and will share your review with our team to ensure we are not occupying rooms with any issues at all. I am not able to find your reservation from your user name here, but if you would be so kind as to email me with the name your reservation was under, I will ensure those items are addressed. My email address is jgoodman@thevenembassyrow.com. I would also like to make sure that however your room was booked, the information about the fee is clearly communicated. I appreciate your time and thoughts and will hope to hear from you so that I may better resolve these issues for you beyond this review response. Many thanks, Jennifer

The Ven may not fit everyone's taste. I found d it very nice. Clean room and a welcoming staff is always a great way to start with me. Ms. Wanda welcomed me with a smile and as much information as I could take in. She even remembered my name the next morning. You can't beat that kind of hospitality. The hotel is old, but what building isn't in downtown DC? They seem to keep it up very well. If you are looking for a large room. You may not find it here. I was in room 814 and it was small; however it was great for me on a 1 day business trip. The gym was nice about sta dard for a Marriott property. There is a $28.00 resort fee or something that is returned to you in the for of a discount ticket for breakfast. This place is located in a great spot for me and what I have to do in this area. A CVS is located just about a block away if you left home without something. I will be back and you can thank Ms. Wanda for opening the door for that!

Hotel got the amenities like rooftop pool, children game area etc, the lobby is very modern and staff were friendly. However, the place didn’t get managed very well, when we went to the rooftop, there was no staff on duty and the couple was smoking marijuana while the guy had his clothes on but inside the pool. This really raised concern, and our kids don’t feel comfortable to go swim there the next day. and no perks for platinum member like breakfast or welcome gift. The place was renovated but not fully, still see tons of areas showing the aging. Bathroom is tiny, it’s decent hotel, bed is super comfortable, just not sure if it’s the category 6 standard that we were expecting. The city view of the room was one thing that we really enjoyed, picture attached the view from the room.

Thank you for your thoughts on your visit! We are so appreciative that you stayed with us, and happy to see that our team and amenities met your expectation but I am so sorry for your experience at the Rooftop! We have a staff member schedule there at all times to help with pool towels or anything else that's needed, and to advise our guests that the hotel, and pool deck, are completely non-smoking. Clearly, there was a lapse in our coverage during your stay and I apologize for that. I have followed up with my team to ensure something like this does not happen again. I appreciate you letting me know. We also do offer the Elite perks for our Bonvoy guests, whether it's a welcome amenity, breakfast voucher or bonus points. If you could please email me with the name that was on your booking, I can follow up to find out why you were not offered the choice of benefits and rectify that according to the member Terms and Conditions. My email is jgoodman@thevenembassyrow.com. Thanks again for your feedback and we do hope to see you again for a better experience in the future.

The Ven is a brand new hotel right on Massachussets Ave, a couple of blocks away from Dupont Circle. The hotel is nice, the rooms are big and the staff is friendly. However, I would note a few things and give the hotel a few months to settle in before you consider it:

1. There are constant events in the lower floor. I was on a vacation with my daughter and they took 15 minutes to take care of me because all the staff was busy with the event. If you want something quiet and relaxing, the Ven is not for you.

2. There is very loud construction outside. I simply couldn’t rest because they start at 7 am and you literally hear the jackhammer in your ear. The hotel should warn customers of this when they make their reservations.

3. Many services, like the breakfast (service is crammed and disorganized), and the WiFi (it was down for most of our stay) need better attention - especially for business travellers.

All in all, a nice hotel that I might visit again at some point but, with so many options in DC, I will wait on.

Thank you for your kind review and understanding about the bumps in service we experienced during your visit. We understand how critical a seamless wifi experience is for our guests and ensured that our provider was onsite right away to address the piece of equipment that failed. We do not expect any further issue but of course are in close contact with our provider to ensure that is indeed the case. We have just changed our breakfast menu to include both grab and go and hot a la carte options and we will continue to refine the experience until our guests tell us we've hit the mark every time. The street construction on Massachusetts Avenue is normally not disruptive, although it does create a very unappealing curb, and I have reached out to the contractor to request notification whenever they anticipate any noisy work. We will do our best to pass information that along to our guests. I am hopeful you will choose us again on a future trip, and confident you will have a wonderful experience! Please feel free to reach out if I can assist with anything at all. Kindest regards, Jennifer

Perfectly fine hotel with a great location. You can get a bigger, nicer room in DC but the key sell is Dupont Circle, which has a lot to see/eat/experience there as well as being a great central location to access all of DC. I stayed on the 2nd floor and would suggest to future travelers to request a high floor. Pool is really, really small and there isn't a ton of seating, but the rooftop provides a cool vantage. The restaurant/bar area is very nice and the food is innovative and delicious. Ultimately a cool hotel and a great value for $ spent, would stay again but the best parts come from outside the room itself.

First time at the Ven at the advice of a friend who is a frequent guest. As most reviews will say, it is a lovely boutique hotel and the location. The standout areas are friendly staff, comfortable bed, nicely decorated room with a high-end feel. And, here's a surprise, a very reasonably priced breakfast menu of quality items. My $3 oatmeal was good and plentiful with cinnamon, brown sugar and raisins. Other reviewers noted the small bathroom but that didn't bother me as it was functional and very nice.

The major issue for the 4-stars are the small details like lack of accessible and fully functional power outlets, use of paper and plastic cups, and noise overlooking Massachusetts Ave. None of the usb power ports worked. There is only one power outlet on the table/dresser next to the beds. It is too close to the bed on the right making it hard to plug in and the usb power did not work. It's a lovely room and the paper and plastic cups degrade the experience. It's really minor but other high end hotels have nice ceramic mugs and glass wear. I had a nice view overlooking the front of the hotel only to be ruined by the early construction noise. Not something the hotel can control but it did affect my stay. And, the roof-top area is closed but not a major issue.

However, the positives do overcome all this and I would come back if I wanted to be in this vibrant area.

Hi SVRyder, thank you for your review! I appreciate the positive notes and will work on the issues that you mentioned, especially those power outlets! That is annoying for sure, we all need to keep our devices going strong when we travel. We do have additional outlets that we can provide in the event that those built in's are not working properly and we are working on a plan to fully replace them in the coming months. Our street construction project is in the home stretch and we can't wait for the beautiful new Massachusetts Avenue to be in place, hopefully sometime in the next few weeks. It's been a LONG project, not always noisy but always ugly! and we are excited for the new clean avenue that we'll soon get to enjoy. We can always assign rooms on the other side of the building for anyone that wants a lovely and quiet DC neighborhood view in the meantime. Please do thank your friend who is a frequent guest for their recommendation and please do plan to come and stay with us again soon! All my best, Jennifer

We stayed at The Ven the week of DC’s reopening and Pride Week and would not hesitate to return. We received the most authentic, gracious, high level of service in this little boutique hotel.

Every.Single.Employee was happy. Heck, every guest we encountered was happy! Rooms tastefully decorated, clean, and perfectly serviced. The lobby was done in a modern contemporary design, with spacious seating areas for a quick game of tic tac toe, reading, or working. The rooftop pool was so clean, modern, and inviting. It was a very short walk to DuPont Circle where there’s a weekend Farmer’s Market. A 45 minute walk to The National Mall. A lot of very walkable areas and a Metro Hub one block away.

And the staff we can’t say enough! We didn’t get everyone’s name but every staff member, from the ones who greeted us in passing in the hallway to the ones that we got on a first name basis with were outstanding! Thank you Jorge, Tyler, Fassil, Lyle, Wanda, and the others who’s names I didn’t get. We appreciate how hard you worked to ensure a comfortable stay. For those who complained about slow service (we did not experience this, but a few extra minutes of your time should only matter if it’s a medical or safety emergency), minimal staff (5 letters—-COVID), and things that didn’t affect your ability to rest in a safe and comfortable space, then I would highly encourage those to feel grateful and post about the positive things.

Try Da Hong Pao for dim sum, Nooshi for Asian Fusion, and Brasserie Libertie for French. Peace and enjoy your trip to DC.
