I work for a major hotel chain company and decided to bypass my hotel discount to finally check out the highly recommended B&B. This turned out to be a great decision to discover a wonderful little gem in my own backyard. I live/work/play in DC, and this was a lovely "staycation." The innkeeper, Joanna, exemplifies great customer service and anticipating... More

We had the pleasure of spending two romantic nights at the Akwaaba DC. Our room, the Zora Neale Hurston, exceeded expectations. It is VERY spacious, with a charming window seat in the bay window, a cool reading chair, desk, comfy bed... Decor was charming. Joanna was very helpful in advising about wonderful local dining choices, and about getting to all... More

We had a great stay and really enjoyed the warm atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious. The room (we had modern classic) and the sanitary were beautiful, charming and cosy. This actually goes for the whole house. It was awesome!! We can absolutely recommend it!! The service and cooking of the innkeeper were perfect!

Didn't know what to expect but it exceeded our expectations. Felt right at home from the very beginning. The innkeeper whose name was Joanna really knew her stuff. She was very helpful with things to do around town and cook a mean breakfast. We said we were going to come back 7 more times to try every room in the... More

Akwaaba commends itself in so many ways ... location (in the heart of a vibrant cultural center of the District) ... facility (a thoughtfully-appointed brownstone with the comforts of home) ... service (which starts even before your arrival with a call from the innkeeper inquiring if you need directions or have any special requirements upon your arrival ... to a... Beautiful rooms. We stayed in the Langstan Huges room, which was the largest and had a balcony and Jacuzzi tub. Great area in DC. Lovely homemade hot breakfast every morning. Excellent and extremely helpful and kind inn keeper. Couldn't ask for a nicer place to stay!!

I love, love, LOVE this bed and breakfast! I travel 50% of the year for work and there is a level of quality and PERSONAL CHARM that makes Akwaaba a great deal! The rooms are spacious and clean. The inn keeper is a sweet as pie and makes an awesome Challah french toast! Convenient to the capital and the sights!... More

We are seasoned travellers but this was our first time to the US, and we booked 5 nights at Akwaaba in late October 2013. The stay was fantastic; Jo, the Innkeeper, was briliant - she is the most obliging host we've ever enjoyed - a wealth of local knowledge (sights/other local points of interest, and especially restaurants and transport), always... We were in town for a few days of business and stayed at Akwaaba for its location. We had stayed at Akwaaba Mansion in Brooklyn and met the innkeeper Joanna there. She exudes joy and prepares a tasty breakfast too. Whatever came up -- small question or large -- Joanna was ready to be of assistance. Our room -- Romance... More

My wife and I arrived during the shut down and were concerned about things to do and see. Our special host, Joanna, made sure we knew what was open, what to see and what to do. She made sure we had maps, tour info etc each day. When we needed a taxi she even stood at the sidewalk to make... More
