This is a beautiful hotel; I upgraded to a room with a view. We had a great view of the Potomac. The room was large; the bathroom was amazing: a big tub, separate large shower, beautiful marble. The breakfast was very good, too. Lots of selections; some could have been warmer, though. Best of all was the most excellent staff: everyone was helpful and friendly. I highly recommend their tea service. We had a lovely trip.

Let me begin with the positive--the Mandarin Oriental, Washington, D.C. has a first rate staff. The service was exemplary from the parking attendant to the concierge. That is the the MOST important thing about a hotel and I commend the Mandarin Oriental for this. However, little else meets the standards for a 5-star hotel and what a fall from grace after luxuriating at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City. Deference must be made to the challenges of covid--and I again commend the staff for maintaining strict mask-wearing throughout the facility from both staff and guests. Our room was lovely but lacking a refrigerator and many of the amenities one expects in a five star hotel. For example, a bar next to the toilet would be helpful for those of us up in age. The staff brought in a trundle bed for our daughter when she visited but failed to include a blanket. The bed was placed directly under a fan and she froze that night. Most disappointing was the restaurant that offered the most pedestrian menu imaginable. My husband ordered the curry and was quite disappointed. However, the pianist at the bar was terrific--not the usual show tunes, a true artist! Special kudos to Victor, the concierge, who found us tickets to the National Museum of African American History and Culture are all of our efforts had failed, and who recommended a great seafood restaurant in the marina as well. After dinner, my daughter and I went down for a swim in the pool before bed only to learn the pool closes at 8:30 p.m., way too early for an international clientele from all kinds of time zones. I appreciated the complimentary coffee in the morning and the buffet breakfast was pretty good. All in all, a four-star hotel with superior service--but a bit shy of the 5-stars one would expect from a Mandarin Hotel.

Dear K7104TKjessicas, Thank you very much for staying with during your most recent visit to Washington, DC. I appreciate the feedback you provided in your review and have shared it with my colleagues. You are kind to note that some of your disappointment has to do with amended services due to the pandemic and some are operational standards to meet the preferences of our guests. Others, however, are misses and areas where can surely improve. We are glad that you are a Fan of Mandarin Oriental and hope to have you visit us again when you are in Washington, DC to restore your confidence in our Hotel. Kind regards, Dave Walsh Director of Sales and Marketing

Overall was a beautiful hotel with a very attentive, kind staff. It was a little overwhelming getting out of my vehicle at valet, due to several different people trying to help. Wound up having to tip four different people just to get up to my room, but that’s ok. Had a lovely stay and great room service. Only things I noticed were some rips in the duvet cover on one of the beds, and a large brown stain on the other bed’s duvet cover.

My husband and I are currently staying at the MO Washington for the weekend of oct 15, 2021 and for a five star hotel experience, this has been pretty lack luster thus fur. No coffee machine in the rooms, if you want one, you would have to request it and pay 30 dollars. This is kinda silly when you’re already shelling out 400 dollars a night for a room. Nice tub but they don’t offer bath salts or any other bath amenities which defeats the purpose of having such a nice tub in the room. Sinks not properly cleaned. When you book at a five star, what you’re paying for is the little details and quite frankly, it has been missing at this location.Don’t think we will ever stay at another mandarin oriental after this

Friendly staff. Clean but small room although it was a deluxe King with a view. Due to covid no dinner dining except for in small lobby bar. Limited menu. Sushi bar closed. Great location for walking to museums & monuments.Enjoyed our stay but would like to return when everything is open.
