I enjoyed staying here, it was lovely, and the bed was very good. It was also very quiet at night. Nice restaurants 5 min walk away. The only issue I had with the reservation process (not with the place) was that I had not opened the attachments when I got my confirmation email, and hence although I thought I knew... More

It's always nice to hear when a guest has enjoyed their stay. The Independence House Bed and Breakfast is truly a gem in the city. The reservation service is reading this review and finds it troubling to hear this guest had difficulty reaching and finding the B&B for arrival. A smooth and trouble free arrival is something we work very... More

Mary Jo was very nice and interesting. The location can't be beat. Being on Capital Hill there are great restaurants and eastern market. You can walk to many sights and we loved walking the neighborhood with the beautiful row houses. Breakfast was so good-(a true vacation for me)! You will not be disappointed! Thank you, Mary Jo.

Mary Jo has a delightful and historic house full of interesting pictures and books. Our rooms were immaculate and spacious with free wifi. She is an excellent host and allowed us to leave our bags at 10am on the morning we arrived. The house is perfectly situated for walking anywhere, using public transport , or, in our case, the excellent... More

My wife and I stayed at Independence House for four nights over the Memorial Day weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the owner, Mary Jo Christian, is a wonderful hostess. The single unit comprises a bedroom, sitting room and separate bathroom and is spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is advertised as continental but I would describe it as "super-continental" since... My wife and I stayed at this charming B&B for two nights. We enjoyed meeting Mary Jo Christian, a superb hostess and good conversationalist. She shares our love of Shakespeare, and coincidentally saw a play at the Folger the same night we did. Our rooms were immaculately clean and comfortable. Independence House is located in a beautiful neighborhood, near everything... More

Independence House is a private home with a comfortable suite (bedroom, sitting room, and bathroom) for guests. (Just try to find the equivalent at a DC hotel for a reasonable price.) There is an ample self-service breakfast and the hostess, Mrs. Christian, a retired educator, is warm and personable.

I stayed two nights at Independence House in January 2016 and enjoyed it greatly. I was in town for business on Capitol Hill and the location was unbeatable for visiting House and Senate offices. Mary Jo was a great host. The accommodations were very comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was simple, quick, and what I needed (pastries, cereal, toast, coffee, juice,... More

We just finished a four-night stay at this great B&B just a few blocks from Capitol Hill. It was wonderful. Nice accommodations in a wonderful neighborhood. Easy walk to the metro and not a far taxi ride from DCA either. The breakfast was super.....fresh fruit, cereals and breads and great coffee. The hostess is great to visit with and keeps... More

My daughter and I just visited D.C. for an event, and stayed at Mary Jo's Independence House B&B. We had a wonderful experience. Mary Jo was very informative about places to eat, safety, and accommodating, as we wanted to visit a Museum before our departure and we had to leave our suitcase there later than check out time. The house... More
