The Melrose Georgetown is a very deceiving hotel. The lobby looks well maintained as you enter. The problems begin when you enter your room. Lack of maintenance, uncomfortable furniture, poor bathroom amenities, and overall poor cleanliness are obvious. My wife and I were in Washington DC to visit friends and family and stayed at the Melrose. We will never stay at this hotel again. The toilet in our room did not work properly, the towel hook fell off the wall, our bed linens and duvet cover were soiled, the chairs were very uncomfortable, and, for some unexplained reason, the tv in our room did not have access to the same channels as other TVs in other rooms! The only reason we gave this hotel a second star was their staff members. Many of them were courteous, professional, and very helpful. Even though the hotel breakfast restaurant was severely overpriced, the staff, particularly Sofiane, were very pleasant and professional. Sofiane is a professional who works hard to satisfy his breakfast customers.

Dear 764stephenm, Thank you for your candid review. It is always disconcerting to hear of such an experience when lodging with us as it does not reflect that of the majority of our traveling community’s feedback. It is disappointing to hear that you categorize the Melrose as a very deceiving hotel and it did not live to your expectations. For an institution that had existed for decades and served everyone from working professionals, college parents, students, tourists and heads of state; I understand your stay did not meet your expectation. As I do with many of my conversations with guests, I encourage guests to reach out and speak to management when a stay is not meeting their expectation. During your stay, we did not hear of any concerns and it is disappointing that, if and when, these opportunities arose, we were not given the opportunity to address them. Upon further investigation, none of the concerns above were noted by our staff, engineering or housekeeping departments, which further adds to the perplexity of your stay. Regardless, I am glad you found Sofiane to your utmost satisfaction. He is an example of why our institution is truly remarkable. Our breakfast offerings, which are fresh to order, plentiful in serving and efficient in timing, are within line or even beat that of breakfast offerings in Georgetown. It is hard to find such heart filling breakfasts in our neck of the woods at the price point; I am disappointed you did not find that to be the case for your stay. Once again, thank you for your review and I encourage you to address any stay issues, whether staying with us or anywhere else, right away so that issues can attended to and addressed. We wish you safe travels. Best, Abdulla Almutairi Director of Operations

We had a wonderful breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Loved my avocado toasted with perfectly poached eggs! Our server, Sofiane, was especially friendly and passionate about his work. Amazing service!

We stayed at the Melrose for a week and we had a very pleasant stay! The staff are just amazing! Big thanks to Sofiane at the restaurant who recognized my French accent and spoke French to me all week. He was friendly yet very professional and thoughtful. A real sunshine every morning! And the 2 ladies at the front desk (Nilden and... sorry I forgot your name!), so funny and nice, asking about my pregnancy, giving me tips, making sure my stay is enjoyable while my husband is at work... After a year in Germany, it really feels good to meet friendly people working in the service industry! The room is very comfortable and cozy. The Hotel is well located with tones of restaurant and shops (I'm 6 months pregnant and walked easily to the White House, Smithsonian Museums, and many memorials). We would highly recommend The Melrose Georgetown Hotel.

Mon cheri Aurélie, Merci beaucoup pour vos gentils mots! Nothing makes us more humbled and excited than hearing that a guest of ours had an amazing stay. I am blessed to be surrounded by a family of professionals who truly go above and beyond to meet and exceed our guests' expectations. I am delighted that this was the case in your review. Since his return to our breakfast service, Sofiane has been an exceptional addition to our operations. His inviting smile and demeanor truly makes him outstanding and I appreciate your kind feedback about your interaction with him. On behalf of Nilden, Nurten, Lelise, Malcolm, Aki, Teaira and Abdi from the front office team, and the remainder of the Hotel staff, thank YOU for sharing your experience with the rest of the traveling community. Your family at the Melrose will look forward to welcoming you back to your home away from home in our beautiful city! Sincerely, Abdulla Almutairi Director of Operations

I stayed in at the Melrose for 3 nights while touring nearby colleges. We had a pure wellness king suite. Although the room was large it wasn't up to standards. The lobby and entrance give you a false sense of a high quality hotel. The room was stuffy and the windows didn't open (wellness?). The fans in both bathroom and bedroom did not work. I struggled with allergies whenever in room, which is disappointing given I paid extra for a Pure Wellness room! The rug is old and was continually damp. The sofa bed polyester bedspread had a HOLE in it and the mattress was horrible. The faucet, and the toilet leaked continually - adding to the water stains on floor (under the wastebasket). The remote control had dried spots of sticky substance upon arrival. The iron was broken and leaked water when ironing. Lastly, the WIFI was very slow. I would not recommend or stay here again.
