Picked due to location, easy distance to Mall and White House. Close to good selection of bars and restaurants that cater for all budgets and tastes. Staff pleasant, but didn't have much interaction as we were out 16 hours each day. Free breakfast is worth using as a fuel stop for a long day of sight seeing. Room we had...

NomadForest78: Thanks for the review, and giving a shout-out to the HI DC Team! We do try to provide the value you seek (DC is quite expensive), along with the location, comfort, and amenities that make for a great experience. Thank you for the note and for the helpful advice to readers (e.g., bring a lock for the lockers to...

I stayed here for a week, central located, close to the White house and public transfer, even close to Starbucks, breakfast was good, and the guy who worked in that kitchen over there, was a funny one, he made me smile. Loved my stay here, very friendly people,

Ivo468: So glad to have you for an entire week! Our location is a definite advantage, but it's the HI DC Team that makes the memories. John, our world famous Breakfast Host is truly a one-of-a-kind. We're extremely lucky to have him to greet and take care of hostellers in the morning. ~ Mark Schneider, HI DC General Manager

Eventually got round to this nearly 4 years later! Check in was nice and simple Great guys on reception, rooms were large bring ear plugs if you opt for a dorm (there's always a snorer!) They offer tours which I went on around the capital building and pretty much everywhere I think for free or maybe a couple bucks.. not...

Andyburn91: Better late than never, especially for a PERFECT SCORE! Thanks for sending us your note! Great advice about always being aware of your surroundings in a big city. Thankfully, our guests and staff feel pretty safe in the area, especially being less than a 10 minute walk from the White House. So glad that the HI DC Team was...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in a double room. First the good points. Great location, nice communal areas, nice decor, great free breakfast. Mostly friendly helpful staff. The bad - dreadful creaky springs with a hollow rolling us together. Small for a double. It's a hostel so I don't expect luxury but usually you get reasonable...

Ian C: Thank you for the nice comments about our location, atmosphere, and breakfast. I am truly sorry about the uncomfortable bed and even more so about the service that could have been provided to fix the issue. Please accept my sincerest apologies. Regarding the beds, we are upgrading all of our private room bed frames and mattress. On the...

If you're travelling alone to DC like I was, stay at this hostel. The location is fantastic, the facilities clean, and it's a great opportunity to make new friends! Everything worth seeing is within walking distance from the hostel, and if you need to head further out of town the transport is close by. Overall a great time and I'll...

Like the hi Chicago this hostel is in a similarly fantastic location for seeing the sights. I was only in town for two nights and location wise this hostel was perfect for me. The staff were really helpful at all times and were available whenever required. I did not have any issues which I needed to discuss with them but...

Andrew L: Thank you for all of your feedback and insights! It's such fun to read that you liked our "perfect" location, helpful staff, tours and activities, security, and especially that you will come back to see us next time you are in town. I am sorry about the odor in the hallway. We did experience that, too. To ensure...

I stayed in a 6 person female dorm. The room was on the small side and being on the top bunk it was hard to find places to keep my belongings outside of my locker. The bathrooms were in good condition, the showers had curtains rather than doors but this was fine. I never had to wait to use the...

annawalks: Thank you for the review and all of the nice comments! Reading about having the "best" breakfast in USA, "wonderful" location, "great" tours, "helpful and friendly" staff, and the "best" laundry facilities made my morning start of with a bang! Clean and plentiful bathroom facilities are also very important to a good stay. Yes, the floor space can be...

I liked almost everything about this hostel. Great location (10 minutes from the White House and national mall), dorm and bathrooms were spotlessly clean. Having stayed at hostels in Europe with much more ambiance and energy, HI hostel did a good job in having 'cool' common areas that encouraged the social aspect of hosteling.
