The Motto By Hilton Washington DC City Center garners frequent accolades for its exceptional service, with staff members often described as welcoming and professional. While some guests find the hotel's pricing and central location to be of good value, others caution about small rooms and unexpected costs. The hotel's prime position is popular among travelers, situated near dining, attractions, and transit, though there are some safety concerns. The cleanliness of the hotel is consistently commended, as are the modern amenities and lively rooftop bar, despite some noise issues and compact room sizes reported by guests.

The smallish bedroom unit is exceptionally well organized, with functionality in both bathroom and storage areas. It is modern, well-lit and has a comfortable large bed and desk.

Breakfasts at the downstairs cafe were plentiful and attractively presented by a competent wait-staff. Seating area was comfortable.

I need especially to compliment the front desk staff on their help accessing Washington DC transportation during a one-week Metro repair period when we visited DC in order to attend a play at the nearby Shakespeare Theatre. The staff walked us to the shuttle buses which were provided and told us how to get to our destinations. If not for the inconvenience caused by the repair schedule of Metro, this would be an excellent location with nearby lines nearby. It is also within walking distance of athletic arenas, some museums and top-notch restaurants.

For value received, the Motto brand is great.

Clean Hotel. Nice Restaurant and Bar in the lobby. Friendly and Professional Staff. Felt safe with doorbell access to enter the hotel. Clean room. Rooms are small; however, I have stayed at this Motto Hilton chain in Times Square so I knew what to expect Check in before 3pm was a plus. Access across the street to Metro Staion. Walking distance to City Center luxury stores ( Gucci, Dior, Louis Vuitton, etc.) and restaurants. The Chinatown area where the hotel is located is very busy and the homeless population is present in the area. I would stay at this location again despite the area being busy.

My room was itty-bitty, but it worked for my two-day business trip with my small suitcase. What do you need for a short solo trip anyway? It was close to the meeting I was attending, it was clean and comfortable, the Chinatown neighborhood is packed with restaurants and entertainment, and they would refill the ice in my water thermos when requested. My needs were met, and it was at least $100 less per night then any of my other options.

Note that space in these rooms really is minimal, so bring your tiniest luggage. Also, I don't honestly see how my spouse and her luggage would have fit, so this is a solo traveler place only.

The small restaurant downstairs seemed popular at breakfast, though a colleague told me it was not open when they claimed it would be when he went down early. There is also a bar that wasn't fancy but again seemed popular.

Staff was efficient and friendly. The location is literally across the street from a Metro stop, making transport logistics simple. I came in from IAD on their very nice new 'Silver' Metro line, made one easy transfer at the 'Metro Center' stop, then arrived at the front desk within about an hour of departing the airport.

Bottom line is this is a very nice alternative for a short business trip.

Motto by Hilton is a micro-hotel, so the rooms are small, but they certainly don't skimp on quality, and the price won't break the bank. The bed was comfortable, with plenty of pillows. My only grumble is that the blanket was quite thin, so I had to crank up the heat to get warm enough. There were enough shelves for me to store stuff, as well as clothes hangers tucked away in a corner. If I had needed to hang up a dress, they wouldn't have worked, but for a blouse and jacket they were fine. Although the bathroom was compact, the shower was plenty big enough with shampoo and body wash containers hanging on the wall. There is also a small desk. The restaurant was nice. I had a really good burger with what they called fries, but which were actually large potato wedges. The location is good. The staff, especially Hanoch and Kemya, were extremely helpful and pleasant. If you need to spend a lot of time working in your room, this might be a little cramped. But if all you need is a place to crash and park your suitcase and aren't interested in paying $500+ per night this is ideal. HIghly recommended!

We stayed here for 3 nights and the hotel is in an ideal location for sightseeing, easy walking distance to the Capitol Building, White House, Smithsonian galleries etc.

The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The woman serving at the Crimson Cafe was miserable, we felt like we were an inconvenience (the only downside to our visit). We used our Hilton Honors Gold food and beverage allowance there, in the restaurant and in the rooftop bar, which has super sunset views. The allowance is emailed as a QR code which is scanned when you pay your bill in the restaurant, bar or cafe. The restaurant is only open for breakfast at weekends which was a bit disappointing as we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast the first morning.

The double room we had was very small, there is room under the bed for suitcases. The sliding glass shower room door, which isn’t a close fit, means you need to be comfortable using the bathroom with your partner/room mate in close proximity (you can hear everything), however, it suited us fine. Housekeeping is optional so we opted not to have our room made up while we were there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at the Motto by Hilton for three nights on a recent visit to Washington. The hotel is very clean and has a nice restaurant and two bars. The rooms are quite small with bunk beds but are spotless and have all that you require. We asked for a kettle and it was delivered quickly. The location is great, right in Chinatown, near lots of bars and restaurants, the Metro is directly across the road and the White House, Washington monument and Lincoln Memorial are all within walking distance so itvis so handy for sightseeing.
A huge shout out and thank you to the wonderful Yardé, on reception. He was so helpful and informative. Our luggage didn't show up after our flight and he was a great help to us. He has a huge interest in history and gave us loads of advice and information, how to get around, what to see, where to eat and drink. He is so friendly and chatty and the hotel is so lucky to have him on its staff...thank you so much Yardé.

A ridiculously well-located "micro" hotel.

Well-designed, ergonomic rooms that suit an adult workflow. Everything is just where you'd want it to be for a quick stay.

This was my 3rd Motto property and the best so far. I'd call Motto more "adult" than Hilton's Tru brand with more focus on food+bev, with much better designed and more compact rooms than Hampton, and more modern than Hilton Garden Inn. All of these are usually in a comparable price range, so if you have the option, pick the style that suits you.
(I have yet to try a Spark for comparison)

Hilton status was acknowledged and displayed on the in-room TV screen.

The location is the best part- barely 200feet from the northern entrance of the Gallery Place metro stop, right in the thick of the local restaurant district. There's one of the best museums in DC around the corner. Outstanding.

Bathroom was better than I expected. The under-window AC unit worked well. These aren't my favorite type but this was not aimed at the sleeper, which would be my biggest AC peeve normally.

It's not cluttered or too small, but everything is just a couple of steps away. There's places to put or hang things on your way in and out of the room. There's an airport style filtered water dispenser in the hallway. Decent towels.

Very good sleep. Comfortable bed and not much city noise on a Saturday morning. (I stayed one night in a queen corner room on the 9th floor) There's a lobby bar, a whiskey bar(?), a roof bar, a cafe, and a coffee shop.

Quibbles: check-in should have offered info on the food&beverage offering. the coffee shop doesn't allow room charges. the front door is locked even during the day (keycard access, so only an issue before you check in).

I think this space would work for a couple, especially on a short trip, especially if they're svelte. But it's really optimized for the solo traveler. For me, it was nearly perfect. I'll definitely be back.

The motto 1st of all has out-standing staff. For our first time in Washington DC Yardé was very welcoming and gave us very helpful info to help us navigate the beautiful city. The hotel had a great commons area that had great vibes and was a great spot to hangout. Our room was cozy and clean. And Yardé made sure we had a great view. The hotels location is great, you are in the middle of the city where everything is in walkable distance if you wanted to walk and the subway is right across the street.

The hotel was right across the street from the subway station, so the walk was literally a few minutes! It was relief going on the escalator and the first thing I see is the hotel right across the street. It's a subway station so there was some sketchy people but that's at any place anywhere in the world. I did feel safe though. The room is very small and my stuff didn't all fit nicely but I made them fit. The view was of the street below but I didn't hear any noise whatsoever. I was on the 11th floor. Having waters everyday when the room was cleaned was great. I did notice on one time that my room was cleaned that they forgot to bring me waters, so I just called the front desk and they brought me some. I also noticed that 2 days in a row the stall bathroom wasn't cleaned at all. That was a downer. The gym was small but had everything that I needed. I noticed later on when I was at the front reception desk waiting to speak to the receptionist, I saw a sign that said guests had free access to the Planet Fitness gym across the street. I was able to use it one time but I would have preferred to have known this information when I first checked in so I could have used it every time I was there (I stayed for a total of 5 days). The bed was very comfy and there were plenty of lights around the room. The TV was great. There were A LOT of restaurants around the hotel. I went next door and around the corner to the same restaurants. I also walked blocks to other restaurants and the most I walked was 15 minutes. There was also a CVS that I walked to down the street (maybe 10 mins). Everything was very close by and I loved that. Going to the Nationals/Giants game was extremely easy as well. The subway took me straight to the ballpark. I also walked around D.C. at night and always felt very safe. The front staff were very nice and friendly. When I return to D.C., I will definitely stay here again.
