Excellent amenities, beautiful ambience, great entertainment (Monday night jazz was particularly lovely!), tasty (and reasonably priced!) food, and a terrific cocktail menu! The Tabard Inn has made our DC experience, and we would honestly come back to Washington just for the hotel.
Wonderful location and precious old-time ambience in this beautiful historic inn. Decor is quirky and artistically planned. No elevator, so be prepared to haul luggage upstairs. Our room on top floor had a lovely Victorian-feel bathroom with loads of natural light through skylight. Unfortunately, reception staff seemed less interested in general hospitality and weary guests' well-being. Our check-in was met with being billed the full amount for four nights' stay, even though our accommodation cost had already been covered by an organisation based in Boston, MA. Not the most welcoming way to start one's stay in DC. The extravagant, unauthorised bank transaction was only reversed after my husband had made several threats of reporting fraud with our bank back in South Africa. After that episode had thankfully been successfully settled, reception staff members were efficient and friendly. Hopefully, owners/managers /stakeholders will realise that this establishment comes at a steep price and that paying guests deserve dignified service, respect, and honesty throughout.…
I love the personality of this hotel and the people here. Need to check out their outdoor restaurant - I had the best chicken and waffles for brunch with unforgettable ambience. If you are looking for a unique experience this is your place.
Enjoyed sharing brunch with friends in the court yard. Staff was attentive and since this meal took place "during covid" we felt very safe with the tables very generously separated from others. The omelets were tasty but the size of the baked muffin was rather small. The authentic historic setting made our visit worth the visit.
The restaurant was quaint enough, with Toulouse-Lautrec-inspired art work and images of the District from the 19th century. The food was grossly overpriced and a great disappointment. It came out way too fast to be fresh. The chicken for two of our party was dry. The mushroom risotto was watery and lacked mushrooms. Service was uninspired. Wait person never checked on us.
We stayed 4 nights during the peak of cherry blossom bloom. The hotel is in a great location near Dupont Circle where there are many restaurants and shops. I have rarely stayed any place where the staff, without exception, were so helpful, friendly and efficient. The restaurant serves a somewhat limited menu until 3pm but it's a popular place and the food is creative and delicious. The room came with a $10 voucher for each day to use in the restaurant. This hotel is 100 years old and in a combined 3 townhouses. The one possible drawback is that there is no elevator. We stayed on the 3rd floor and it was a hike but we managed just fine. The other minor inconvenience is that there was only one outlet for recharging devices in our room, but we manage with that just fine as well. The rooms are not modern but clean and charming and spacious. No tv's. I almost can't believe that I saw no tv for a week and didn't miss it at all! Wonderful old fashioned shower and windows that opened for fresh air. I'd definitely go back.…
My wife and I had a great 4 night stay in Room #3. Spacious sitting/bed room with eclectic art and furnishings. Top grade brunch and a lounge by a roaring fireplace that would be at home anywhere in Europe. Though lacking elevators and TVs, it more than compensates by its warmth and decor. Super location for walking to the White House and the Mall. .
Hotel experience started out great…..for one night. The hotel is very quaint and quiet. The rooms are comfortable and each one unique. The buildings history alone is enough to make the stay interesting. We came to enjoy our anniversary weekend. However, they are so focused on making a quick buck that they don’t really care about their other clients. Our second night there, we got back to our room after 9pm and found a letter that was slipped under our door that said the restaurant was closed that evening due to a private event. No further information. As we settled in our room we noticed music playing from the event. The music steadily got louder and became more explicit as the night wore on. At 11:30pm we called the front desk who said there was nothing they could do and no managers to talk to. They offered a different room but the music was so loud you could hear it on the street (we went outside to check). They apologized for “the inconvenience” and that they were sorry that the other group had “planned ahead.” They told us there was a “hard stop at 1am” and they they were suffering too. This was totally disrespectful to those of us staying who were not affiliated with the party. There were so many opportunities to give us a heads up…when we made the reservation, when we checked in, when we had brunch in the hotel that morning, when we left the building for the day, or calling us at some point. Even putting a note in the letter about the restaurant closing would’ve been better than nothing. Instead they just expect us to stuffer and lose sleep because of their greed. But couldn’t be bothered to have a night manager on duty for this. There is a nice new Courtyard by Marriott next door that we should’ve stayed at. Less character sure but better treatment.…
If you like "Ye Olde", Tabard is the place for you! I stayed in room 50: mix-n-match antique furnishings and lighting, fireplace (decorative only, I believe), clawfoot tub, etc. There are no TVs and the private bath is also Ye Olde -- meaning atmospheric but not terribly practical (poor lighting, shower above tub but nothing to hold onto or to hold soap/shampoo besides a ledge outside of the shower curtain). The location could not be better: on a leafy residential side street just a short walk to Dupont Circle. And perhaps best is the front desk staff (esp. Akilah)! SO warm, friendly, helpful, and accommodating. There's a terrific restaurant, bar, and cozy lounge on the property as well. Very worth a stay, if you don't mind giving up some of the "conveniences of modern living" (e.g, there is no elevator). (Free WIFI worked great, by the way).…
Came to stay here in October 2021 and couldn’t have had a better experience. Great ambiance with super helpful staff and within walking distance of several attractions. Restaurant had delicious food and cocktails. 10/10 would stay again!
