Huge room, great location to spend a week on business, including a weekend doing the museums. Love Adams Morgan equipped with both an Irish bar and another karaoke bar. Staff very helpful. Fitness room was well kitted out. I'll be back in 6 months !
We had a terrific stay in The Line during the Christmas holidays. We stayed in a great room which was luxurious with a nice view and above all clean. In the beautiful older part of the complex we enjoyed several comfortable afternoon drinks and lovely diners in the hotel restaurant and bars. We will definitely return to this wonderful place in DC.
While staying at the hotel, I left a UPS package and when UPS felt to pick it up, Rent the Runway was going to charge me thousands of dollars for not returning it. A quick email to the manager, Kenneth, and he immediately offered to hand deliver it and send me a receipt. He took time out of his day to walk down to UPS just so that I would no longer have the charges on my account--it was above and beyond. Plus the hotel location can't be beat and the downstairs bar is super fun!
I stayed at The Line last Fall 2022 for a wedding that was being held at the rooftop suite and patio. Members of my extended family and friends stayed at The Line as well. The Line has a cool appearance from the front, really showing that this place used to be a church before it was converted into a boutique hotel. The front entrance opens up into this grand hall that has tables and is reminiscent of a Starbucks with everyone sitting around on their laptops sipping coffee. The price for the rooms was very expensive and we had two rooms on the same floor for my family. One of our rooms had a very strange odor. Not musty like mold or sour like old trash, it was just pungent. Given that there were two weddings taking place at The Line that weekend and the hotel was fully booked, I knew that even if I complained to the front desk, nothing would be done because there were no open rooms, especially not on the same floor as the rest of my family. Depending on which room and what floor, your view at The Line may be a nice one of the street below or it could literally be of a brick wall next to you. The rooms cost the same regardless of view. The Line is one of those hotels which blur the lines between wanting to feel modern but also having interior decor that is meant to feel dated. This is evidenced by nightstands with intentionally pealing paint, old rattling brass headboards, and bathrooms with chipped sinks and rusted faucet handles. There was a new-wave lamp that looked like it belonged in the museum of modern art, but it didn’t have a working lightbulb. So therefore it was functionless. The only thing that saved this visit was the rooftop suite and deck overlooking the city. At sunset it was the perfect venue for the wedding. Overall, The Line gives an air of sophistication but once you look closer, you will see that it’s not worth the price.…
Super excited to stay at the hotel for New Years Eve. They advertised a party on the mezzanine level. When we arrived the “head of security” wouldn’t let us in to the event. Even though we were confirmed to attend. More like a shake down for 20$ bills. He stated he was the MOD. Highly doubtful and they were full upstairs. They were not. My wife videoed it. Whatever! Nice rooms. Mediocre hospitality. Staff was eager with no direction. Sorry. Great space big miss!! We will be looking for some sort of comp.
2.8 stars Good: great location, cool building, hip feel, great view from room Bad: internet broken most of stay, TV without any on demand features or even premium cable, shower leaked all over the floor and staff didn’t do anything about it when notified. Maid skipped bathroom one day. Beds not very comfortable. Bedboards are metal rods which is more personal pet peeve than true critique
We're DC residents but visit The Line for dinner and drinks, for long coffeeshop work days, and for special occasion stays like birthdays and anniversaries. After a somewhat harrowing day, we arrived at The Line for our most recent celebration stay to a warm greeting from Derrick at the reservations desk, who had upgraded our suite to the Monument--a stunning, lovely, spacious room with a private deck and monument view. As always we throughly enjoyed our thoughtful cocktails, food (always dreaming about the smoked crab dip), and the soundtrack by Jovanni and the crew at No Goodbyes. The whole vibe was luxe and the customer service was impeccable. The Line had already earned its spot in our hearts, but this last visit earned it the crown.
My husband and I are staying at the DC Line hotel for 2 weeks for a working vacation while visiting our kids. We remembered The Line as being a cool, boutique hotel. Well, it is not…in fact it is a depressing and worn hotel that delivers poor customer service and seems oblivious to any mission at all. I have had better service with more interest at limited service hotels. Here are the specifics: 1) the internet - frustrating is not an adequate word to describe the experience. It is open network (no password) and every day you have to renew it as if it’s your first time. On my iPad, every time the screen goes dark, you have to re-sign up. Internet seems to be a “101” for a hotel…kind of like a comfortable bed should be. 2) air circulation, despite plentiful windows and cold weather does not exist; the AC, which we thought would be the antidote to hot airless sleeping, only produces heat. We asked 3 people for a fan…none was ever delivered and we finally brought one from one of our kids’ house, which helps; however having to keep the windows open is so noisy (especially last night from World Cup revealers) does not help. 3) Like most hotels, people order food in their room and put their remains out in front of their door for collection. We watched our neighbor’s tray sit there rotting for 3 days straight until my husband finally complained and they finally took it away. This is a regular….trays of repulsive food leftover sitting in the hallway for days. 4) Dumb TVs. Like many, we don’t watch TV but steam. It has been years since we stayed in a hotel that didn’t have Netflix and the usual suspects loaded into the TV….but even if they don’t, mirroring one’s iPhone media is standard. Not here. TV or TV is your choice. I won’t get into stupid design choices…since that is subjective, but I am now looking for a new hotel to stay in for our second week rather than staying here.…
Below is a copy of the email I sent Kenneth North, their front office manager. He has not replied. I’d like to say up front that I really wanted to like the hotel – the aesthetic is great, location is fantastic, and the rates are reasonable. Unfortunately, this stay severely missed the mark as both a business traveler and as the father of a 5 year old child who accompanied me on this work trip. I really liked the room, and appreciated that it was quiet, but beyond that the stay featured a series of issues and limited staff engagement. Here are several of the problems I experienced during my stay: Upon arrival, there was no valet attendant on duty (Saturday night at 10 pm). My daughter and I waited outside for 10+ minutes until I finally gave up and parked on the street. (Incidentally, the valet attendant ended up being one of the only pleasant staff members I interacted with during the stay) When I checked in the front desk couldn’t find my reservation despite the fact that I provided my corporate travel agency’s confirmation number and email. “High speed” Wifi was unusable for work calls or even basic web browsing (tried with 3 different devices) The bathroom shower door didn’t close fully, yielding a flood each time it was used Housekeeping service was inattentive, once even leaving the bathroom dirtier than when I’d left the room (perhaps the attendant needed to use the toilet?) Coffees/toilet papers were also not replenished Room service/restaurant: This requires a category of its own as this was the issue that makes it extremely unlikely I’ll return. Traveling with a child meant that I needed a hotel that had reliable room service since it wasn’t always feasible to take her to a restaurant. This proved impossible because: The QR code in the rooms does not link to an accurate menu The restaurant’s phone line never worked during my 5 day stay Sometimes the front desk would offer to convey my order to the restaurant, however this never worked out in practice The most frustrating time was on a rainy night when I called to ask for the front desk’s assistance in placing an order. First the clerk told me it was impossible to help me. Then he called back ten minutes later as I was about to place an UberEats order and said he would take the order to the restaurant and that they would comp my meal for the inconvenience. Nearly 90 minutes later, the GSM called me to say that the restaurant was not serving and that if I wanted to order food I’d need to use the QR code menu. I explained to her that I HAD used that menu and selected items from it. She told me that the restaurant “just serves burgers and fries”, which struck me as odd. If they had been up front with me right away, I could have simply made other plans, however their poor customer service meant that I had to spend an unnecessary 90 minutes calming a hungry child before being forced to make other dinner arrangements after it was her bedtime. Also, no umbrellas at the hotel meant that we both got drenched going outside to a restaurant after the issues with room service I hope they take this feedback and use it to make improvements. I’m not trying to flame them on social media but I am extremely disappointed – and, honestly, angry as a parent – that The Line DC missed the mark so badly.…
General info / restaurant: This is a boutique hotel in the Adams Morgan district of DC. First let’s talk about the hotel. The front building is an old church (from 1912), which was remodeled to a coffee stand and a restaurant with unusual sitting. For the decoration they worked with local artists, who used some of the equipment of the old church. The main are of the church has couches and tables where you can sit and enjoy your food. The main problem I’ve had with the coffee stand/restaurant is the food smell out of the kitchen that permeates the whole room. The coffee stand had fresh items for breakfast, although I could get fresh croissants (of many different types), delicious coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice at the family-owned and operated Soleluna, just across the street. Rooms: The rooms of the hotel are in an adjacent building. The rooms are very spacious and decorated with an old style. Mine had a wooden large desk and retro framed art. The room came fully equipped with a large TV, iron, safe, and even robes and slippers for the guests. The bathroom had the minimum necessities. Bottles of hand wash soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. However, unlike most of the hotels in this price range, this hotel does not provide a complimentary razor or toothbrush when the guest forgot to bring one. Thankfully there is a CVS and a SAFEWAY supermarket just across the street few yards uphill. The room had wooden floors and large windows which give a lot of light. It also appeared to be clean. However I was surprised to find large moths in the walls (I counted 5). They didn’t appear to be of the type that destroy wool clothes, but I am not sure how they got in and what else might also have gotten in with them. Another peculiar thing: my room had a security device. It looked like the motion detector from an alarm system. I could not tell if it also had a video camera. I have never seen something like that in another hotel. WiFi: There is free wifi, which you get by entering your e-mail address. I am not sure if it only for the guests (it doesn’t really matter), but I don’t understand why you need to repeat the procedure every day in each device you want to connect. Can’t they give you access for the duration of your stay or for an extended period? (Eg 10 days) Parking: Valet parking is available. Neighborhood: The hotel is located in the Adams Morgan district which is not the nicest place of town, but I did not feel unsafe walking around. You always need to watch your surroundings of course. The closest METRO stations are the Columbia Heights (15-20 min walk) and the Dupont Circle (20-25 min walk). There is not much around to see, but there are quite few restaurants for all kinds of food. I would recommend the Brazilian "The grill from Ipanema" on Columbia Ave. And one last mishap. During my stay, they needed to fix something with the water and they warned us in advance that there will be interruption of the water supply from 11 pm - 6 am next morning. This is all fine, but next morning there was no hot water. I’ve had to wash with cold water at 8 am as I had to go to a business meeting. For a hotel in that price range, I found this unacceptable.…
