We came here for my wife’s 60th birthday celebration. This was our fifth trip to the St Regis. We were told that there would be a special amenity in the room when we arrived for her- that we might well get an upgrade as that was quire possible due to our travel agents status “Stars”- that we would be treated as VIPs as we were occupying seven rooms and her birthday. When we arrived the individual who checked us in knew nothing about our celebration or our prior visits to the hotel. This was so disappointing and deflating to start this celebration. We were never advised that certain rooms were renovated. We stayed in a suite that had not been touched in years- there was no VIP treatment.-after my comment about an amenity being in the room for her 60th birthday, some cookies and a bottle of Prosecco was sent up. The trip cost many thousands of dollars and it just did not live up to the expectation as you might expect. Not withstanding the restaurant was excellent as we had breakfast there each day and the bar is fun but when it gets busy, the staff is inadequate. This is a marvelous building and has a great history as we have experienced in the past -please bring it back to its former Grace elegance and customer service. I think we are entitled to some kind of economic benefit.

Dear Valued Guest, I want to express my sincere apologies for the disappointment you experienced during your recent stay with us, especially on such a special occasion as your wife's 60th birthday celebration. Your feedback is deeply appreciated, and I regret that we fell short of providing the exceptional experience you expected. I am truly sorry to hear about the miscommunication during check-in and the lack of awareness about your celebration and your prior visits. This is not the level of service we aspire to deliver, and I understand the impact it had on the beginning of your celebration. Your feedback about the restaurant and bar is noted, and we will pass along your comments appropriately. Thank you for your valuable feedback, and we are committed to regaining your trust. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a more memorable and enjoyable stay. Allow me, Elias Assaly General Manager

I have stayed at a number of St. Regis properties and the experience is always underwhelming. At this particular St. Regis, I noted upon inspecting the bed after check-in that the sheets had been used. There was hair in several locations on the sheets, and since I just checked in and had not been on the bed, it could not have been mine. Really gross! I raised it to hotel management who said “ok, we’ll have housekeeping change the sheets,” as though this was an unusual expectation. Then, upon showering, I nearly flooded the bathroom because the water does not drain out of the shower. After running the water for about two minutes, I was standing in a several inches deep pool of water in the shower. Also gross. The room was over $1200 per night, so while I certainly do not need to be compensated, I was appalled that nothing was offered. The restaurant, Alhambra, is great but I will never stay in this hotel again.

The staff/service was 5 star. The rooms and common area, unfortunately, are 3 stars at most. Very tired and worn, with rooms reminiscent of the 1980s. It is not what one expects at a St. Regis property. It’s a shame that the St. Regis has let this property languish. Until they update, I would put this hotel in the 3-star category.

After a very unfortunate stay at a previous hotel, the St. Regis was a wonderful escape. Every staff member we came in contact with was extremely kind and awesome. The Bar was great with good offerings and we enjoyed the space. The location was spectacular as well: there was a restaurant across the street Il Piatto that was great, and just down the street is the White House! Around the block is a metro stop. Our room was extremely comfortable as well. It was an awesome stay for my partner's birthday.

Common areas feel historical and upscale, Hard to find the words to best describe the room we had. All new marble floors that feel appropriate for a Miami kitchen, but not for a cold weather climate and no carpets to soften or warm the floor. Shower handle is so sensitive that it’s a 5-10 minute process to find the magic spot between burning hot and frigid. In room 310 at least, the hand shower was non functional. You can tell they put a lot of effort into updating the room while retaining the historical character, but it feels odd. Those little issues would not stop me from staying here again, but advertising this as a business friendly hotel in 2023 is not honest unless they mean “sleep here and then go to Starbucks to get decent WiFi”. Throughout the hotel, the extra charge high speed Internet internet is barely usable for browsing the web. A minor annoyances that we constantly encountered is that you can only buy 24 hours of Internet at a time and then it cuts you off. You will spend have to disconnect and reconnect every 24 hours, no option to get internet for the entire stay. Ultimately i might stay here again, but Zoom calls didn’t have the bandwidth to do video, streaming video of any type is constantly buffering. It’s 2023, this level of tech and Internet feel like they are from 2010. If you know what I’m talking about you will be annoyed frequently, if you don’t know what I mean, it won’t bother you.

The St Regis name commands respect in the 5 star luxury hotel market and I had great hopes for my 4 day stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and my room was adequate for a single occupant with comfortable beds. It had just been refurbished and had a nice touch of a Japanese loo of the water spouting variety. The room décor however was dark and I had to put the overhead light on as the side lamps failed to illuminate the room even during daylight. Working on the dark wooden desk was difficult due to the poor lighting. Breakfast was fine but nothing special. The gym was a disgrace for a top end hotel. Pokey with little equipment in it no surprise it was empty. The general décor of the hotel is slightly eccentric with an attempt to capture some sort of Bavarian baronial hall look. The bar was too small for the size of the hotel, crowded and noisy. The guest lounge was not what I would call welcoming with still more Baronial hall style seating. Glad I was not there on a romantic weekend. On a conference I didn't have to stay in the hotel much. The location of the hotel is great with commanding views of the White House when you step out of the hotel entrance and look to the left. I have stayed in other hotels in Washington, some historic, some not. I will not be returning to the St Regis.

Overall, my experience wasn’t great. Everyone I came across at the hotel seemed kind of unhappy and not friendly. Check in was way too long. They only have two desks. I probably lost an hour waiting. I originally was placed on the 9th floor. I got upgraded to the St. Regis suite which I thought would be great. It was extremely tired and felt a little dirty. Definitely not what I was expecting for a St. Regis. I requested to go back to the room I originally booked. The staff was confused, slow, and made it very apparent I was bothering them. I would recommend booking a renovated room, however they are typically the smaller rooms.

Booked a room for 3 nights (first night was pre-booked/ pre-registered for 2nd day early arrival to guarantee room would be available). I called the hotel the day before to inform them that the guest will be arriving on the 2nd day early morning , requested them to place a note in the reservation that it's a pre-registered booking, even provided flight arrival time and approx ETA at the hotel (the front desk staff also acknowledged that it was a pre-registered booking) Day 2, when guest (my boss) arrived around 8.30am, was told that no one has communicated with the hotel that it was a pre-registered booking, hence they considered the room was a no-show and sold the room. The boss needed the room for freshen up to attend conference. I called the hotel trying to resolve the situation, spoke to the Front desk director- Nick- he said it was a miscommunication - miscommunication is 2 ways including one party misunderstood another, on this occasion, their staff has acknowledged the room is a pre-registered room and even has guest's arrival time, hence it wasn't a miscommunication but a mistake on their part. Nick mentioned that they didn't have any rooms available and I have asked if they have shower facilities, they said none. I asked if they could liaise with hotels/ gym nearby to use their shower facilities. Was told that there weren't any sisters hotel around, and he wouldn't know the facilities availability in non-affiliated property and it would also take time to liaise with other properties. All he suggested was that he would waive the first night and upgrade my boss' room. He said that he doesn't have authorization to arrange anything outside of the property (As a director of front office) As a former hotelier at 5-star property and having a hospitality degree, I was trained to go above and beyond to meet guest's expectation, not to mention this was the hotel mistake which caused the inconvenience on the guest. For a hotel to offer a waive for the first night (we're not looking for compensation, the point to book previous night was to guarantee a room, in this occasion, waiving the first night is the bare minimum), and to upgrade the room (still doesn't help with the situation when all we wanted was to freshen up to attend conference) and offer marriott points as compensation. These are the things that a receptionist could offer. A director of Front Desk should be able to offer more and be flexible to look for alternative solutions (think outside the box, go above and beyond) instead of doing the bare minimum. All of my solutions offered to Nick was all shot down, including perhaps if there's a gym nearby, they could offer us a day pass to use their shower facilities; or pick up the phone to call surrounding hotels and find out what they have in their property that could help resolve the issue. When i asked him to investigate the issue, why the service leakage, i was told to be assured that they will definitely look into it, however, as a customer, i will not be informed of any internal decision. In short, we would never know what happened, how it happened nor they would hold anyone accountable. As a hotelier, I'm disappointed with St Regis and Marriott and the service/ rigid "solution" they provide, especially when the Director of Front desk are offering solutions that a receptionist could do and refuse to go above and beyond. Going forward, I would avoid Marriott hotels for all the executive business travels. It's always glamourous when things are smooth sailing, their service standard only comes to test when incident happens.

As Lifetime Titanium members we had put in a suite upgrade. It was accepted and a confirmation email was sent with the name of the suite. Upon checking in we were told that changed but “we would really like this new room”. We were given Room 201 which is a very, very small room and has only a view of a brick wall that they added fake greenery onto. So back down to wait at check in again (which by the way is a very long wait for no reason). They told us this time that the suite “had major water problems from the ceiling” and no other suite was available. They gave us Room 220. A small room with a street view. Definitely not what we were expecting after our suite upgrade was accepted. After some prompting they gave us 2 drinks at the bar. Since it was my husbands 60th they sent a bottle of Prosecco and a slice of cake to the room. All nice and appreciated gestures but they don’t make up for the small room on a low floor. We understand things happen at hotels but communicate with your guests and don’t give them one of the worst room as the alternative. Then we realize they never offered our welcome gift (titanium members receive this) so back to reception to take care of this. They quickly realize they forgot to offer it to us both times we were getting rooms. No offer of the $100 we are due because they forgot to offer this (Marriott guarantee). We chose the breakfast option but chose not to say anything about the $100. We enjoyed the champagne saber at 6pm. Short but a nice touch. The hotel has a lovely lobby and a great location. Nice to sip a glass of champagne while the piano player plays. The next morning we see a $60 bar bill charge for drinks we never ordered as we had not even gone to the bar. Back to reception to take care of that. Another wait at reception. Then we had a lovely breakfast at the Alhambra restaurant. Great staff and a delicious meal. After returning home we check our bill and we are charged for the full breakfast. So now we have to call the hotel to straighten out our bill-again. The St Regis has so much going for it. Donna who welcomes guests is so kind, the gentleman working the parking are friendly and efficient, the wait staff at the restaurant also great, location is right near the White House, ambiance were all terrific. But come on St Regis-not one but 2 incorrect bill charges and the wrong room given and no upgrade at all to compensate. Courtyards do a better job of welcoming Titanium members! We certainly didn’t feel this St Regis matches others in the company. With a little bit of training this could be a wonderful hotel. Unfortunately, for our one night stay all too much went wrong. Do note that parking is valet and is $74/night.
