Cute hotel, but bar experience is not designed for a crowd. We visited DC for a niece's graduation and were booked at the Hotel Hive. The staff was friendly and helpful during check-in, but the experience took a turn for the worse upon arriving at the Hive Bar for an after dinner drink. It was a Friday night during graduation week at GWU. We were turned away from the rooftop bar because it was reserved for a small private party so we went to the bar on the ground floor at the entry of the hotel. There were only a couple of tables occupied as we entered so sat at the bar to get a drink thinking it would be quick as there was no crowd at that point. The bartender commented that it was just her and that she would be back to see us. We noticed bar stools turned up on the end of the bar so one of our group asked if we could take them down because we had more family members joining us. She said she put them there so no one would sit there because it was just her behind the bar. We watched as she fixed one drink at a time and delivered each individual drink to a table with six people all the while ignoring us. A couple stood at the bar next to us roughly ten minutes after we arrived and she asked to serve them. They were served within minutes. Long story short...we sat at the bar for approximately 25 minutes waiting to be served as she served multiple people who came in after us. More people poured in and filled the bar as she continued to fix and serve one drink at a time. Fed up with the poor service, we left after not getting served a drink for 25 minutes, to go up to our room to turn in for the night. Members of our group stayed and informed us the next morning that they weren't served a drink until 20 minutes after we had left the bar. This has to be the worst, most inattentive and incompetent bartender I've ever experienced and am disappointed with the management group that runs the Hive Bar for neglecting to support or properly train staff. If you opt to have a drink at the Hive Bar then I recommend going by before 7:00 p.m. By the way, bar hours aren't late so I also recommend scoping out another bar close to the hotel if you're looking to stay up a little later than bed time.

The staff were all around accommodating and nice. Everything was taken care of and was always there for you. The room was clean and the location unbeatable. You are within walking distance to all the main attractions and just feel like in the heart of Washington D.C. I can only recommend this hotel to anyone. Especially Tas, thank you for explaining us everything and being such a nice host.

This is one the best hotels in town ! At all levels, it’s my first choice whenever I’m visiting DC. And recommend it to all my colleagues whenever they have a trip to DC, it’s clean, convenient and the staff is super nice ! The rooms are beautiful with nice views, not far from the Lincoln Memorial and all the bars and restaurants, I recommend the pizza down in the reception and the rooftop bar for cost nights !

I just wrapped up another great stay at Hotel Hive in DC. This property is perfect for us when we go to DC to visit our daughter at GWU. We have stayed there a number of times (even joined the loyalty club and got a super cool umbrella on this trip.) We love reserving a Buzz room on the 3rd floor where we can just run up and down the steps as we come and go. The Bar (cocktails and coffee) is a great place to hang out and &pizza is delicious. The rooms are perfect for this type of trip. It is a micro hotel so the rooms are intentionally small, but perfect for us. When we need to all stay, we add the bunk room and all stay comfortably. The staff is always so nice and accommodating..during this trip, Brooke G. and Chloe D. were very helpful, professional and just so friendly. Thanks and we will be back!

First, I know I booked at a "microtel" prior to our stay. With that said, I thought the "loft queen" would be larger than what it turned out to be. If you have more than one medium sized suitcase, I would plan on staying at another location. I thought the pictures of the rooms were deceiving making the rooms look bigger than they actually are. Arrived late at night and had a room on the 5th floor. My wife and I and all of our luggage had to take the stairs to the room because the elevator apparently shuts down after a certain time. After winding our way up the stairs and into the NARROW hallways we opened the door and immediately looked for another place to stay as this was just too small. I would describe it as a step above a "Hostel." Don't get me wrong, even though we stayed on property for about 8 hours, the place seemed clean and had no issues with the staff. Did not have a chance to visit the restaurant/bar so no comment on that. No closets/small bathrooms..if you like space to spread out in, this is not the place for you. Oh, and the elevator is VERY slow!

Hi Brian, Thank you for providing your honest feedback. We are sorry to hear our micro concept did not work out for you, but I am glad our staff could quickly assist you with cancelling your reservation at no charge. Each room is a different shape and size; we always suggest booking a King room if it’s your first time trying out a micro hotel. These rooms have more floor space and may include a closet. We apologize about the elevator issue and would be happy to assist with your luggage anytime. We hope to welcome you back to visit the Hive Bar and our &pizza shop! Thank you again for the feedback and for giving our concept a try. Best, Brooke

Can all hotels be micro hotels? This place is seriously cute. Very clean! The staff is INCREDIBLE (shout out to Brooke!) The pizza downstairs is some of the very best. So thankful it was open until 11 pm after our long day of driving! The hydraulic elevator's unhurried nature is charming, but it was too slow and small for our family (toddler, dog, stroller, bags, ourselves!) Great location. Would stay here again and again!
