We travelled to Playa Costa Verde in November of 2019. There were 8 of us in a group. I had stopped going to Cuba because I couldn't eat the food any longer but we went with the group. We were VERY Surprised with the food here. So much variety and lots of cooking stations. There was an omelets station, pasta station, meat station, fish station and desert station plus many more varieties. Everything was fresh and tasty. A big shout out to DUNIA our waitress at the buffet who made of dining experience so fun. She is the best! Hola Dunia! Our room was standard nothing fancy. It was kept very clean throughout the week. The beach is rocky, you will need water shoes. The a la cartes are good especially the Japanese one. The dinner was like a comedy show. They serve Chicken, shrimp, rice and veggies, all saluted on the grill right in front of you. We will return to Playa Costa Verde as soon as we can travel again as we made friends from there and can't wait to see them again.

We had travelled to PCV in July 2019 as a family of four with two young kids aged 7 & 5. We initially arrived and had a bit of a wait after long flight and bus journey. The room we were given was fine for our needs. Large wrap around terrace, big bathroom and good size fridge in the room stocked with complimentary water and juice/beer. The room was dated but we found it to be clean and suitable. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful and very well kept, common to see the maintenance staff chopping down the coconuts from the trees. Tip the guys and they will open, fill with ice from restaurant/bar -delicious! The beach was stunning - again tip the beach guys they will sort you out chairs etc, beach bar was also great serving drinks snacks etc. You can book pedalos and catamarans for free, well worth doing kids loved it! Cheeki in the kids club was a godsend, so warm and friendly and our kids loved going there all the time. It also meant kids were out of the very hot midday sun and we got a wee rest! I would not hesitate to put my kids into cheeki's kids club! The food - it is what it is. Its cuba, some foods are not available, cola, french fries etc. There is always something you can eat and always a great choice. I have a fussy eater he lived on banana sandwiches at times but quite happy to finish with ice cream every night. The queues at the buffet could be long at peak times and if you went dining later sometimes many of the popular dishes were finished. On a couple of occasions they had to close doors to dining areas as it was too busy. The Al a Carte resturants were all good and we liked the Japanese one the best for food and the experience. Snack bar also good but you could expect a wait at peak times also. We are not really into the entertainment side of things but the pool dancers and singers in the lobby area stood out. The pool bar was good fun and the guy who is the main man also has his own restaurant, Jesus I think his name was. Pool area could be really busy at peak times, heard many folk complaining that the 'cubans' had took over the place at long weekends, not letting others to bar and filling up bag from dining room. We just pushed in and didn't notice the latter so no issue to us. Good few trips on offer from hotel, swim with dolphins, market, hire old retro cars/taxis or hire the horse and cart rides for short distances. We didnt go on much further trips as we found them to be too hot with the kids. Check out was a wee bit manic, we had our beach towel stolen and had to pay for it - the lady at reception I found quite rude - apart from her everybody else was great! Rooms cleaned daily, and if you tipped maid, lots of chilled water put in your fridge! All in all, we had a great holiday! This was our first holiday taking our kids long haul and out of Europe. The food could be a bit bland at times and repetitive but we just accepted it and made the very best of the experience. The pools, staff, beach, and general aura of PCV were excellent!

This was our second time visiting this resort for 10 days. Bad news first- We had requested a similar room that we had on our first visit, realizing that you don’t always get what you ask for, but I was very complimentary about our first visit and hoped for the best. What we got was the exact opposite! It was facing the back yard of scrub grasses, and highway, had a cot in it crowding two double beds together, individually made, an old doorway as for an adjoining room, and a table with the finish worn off of it. We didn’t unpack and went back to the office and requested another room. The resort seemed very quiet. In order to get the same room as we had before, we needed to take an upgrade. It was pool view but the room was the same as we had the last time. It took 6 hours for that transfer to happen, but thanks to Samuel and Diana, it did. It was an extra 40$US a night, but we did receive free 30 minute massages (Tony was awesome!), and a bottle of rum. However, we didn’t see a maid for 5 days (I finally had to ask to have our sheets changed) which shocked the young man, Raphael, I talked to. He sorted it. Our fridge was also not stocked as it should have been. Information not shared? It has been expressed by other patrons that it is a question if they do this on purpose to force upgrades. I don’t know, but I hope not! Suset , another front desk manager, was not friendly at all, verging on rude. Also want to say that the resort is in some need of repairs/cleaning of the cement surrounding the pool and also replacement or cleaning of roof tiles. The grounds keepers do a great job otherwise. From that point our holiday was great. Lovely beach, pool and grounds. The buffet meals are such that you need to find what you like to eat and stick with it. Due to US embargo’s in the country, they struggle to provide some things like French Fries, fresh fruit veggies and real chocolate, but they did well to overcome those things. The Banana chips were awesome. Bring hot sauces and condiments you like for taste. Also lacking in some choices of spirits. Dunia and Milet were sweet, smiling, lovely buffet staff there but there were many more as well. The A La Cartes were all great. Special mention to Maylin at the Italian. Ricardo that books these was a great guy! There is a great pool snack bar with great staff and good quick snack food. Kenia, who smiles all the time and is “fun” personified, and all the staff there, were great! The staff in the lobby bar were all fantastic and great at their job and remembered your face and what you liked to drink every time. Great coffee/specialty coffee bar there was super! Special mention to Yanexa, Yamena and Melina but they are all fantastic! Thanks to David Rodriguez for his greetings and friendliness to patrons. Much appreciated!!! We went on a tour to Holguin with Dania who was an awesome guide- fun, knowledgeable, and just a lovely person. It was worthwhile doing for 5 hours or so. Jorge, our WJ rep, was great. Just a call away when he wasn’t at the resort. Would recommend getting a VIP departure from your rep if you can, for the lounge and snacks while you wait for your flight. For your information, we found out that the currency is moving from Pesos to strictly US currency available at the resort(s?)Don’t know the time line. To close, the people make this resort worth visiting. We would go back!!

The people make the place. They a beautiful and very helpful. I especially like the Cigar Bar, very spacious and the staff are very friendly. Anna is my favorite person in the bar. the only complaint I have is that the food could be warmer. Everything else is excellent..

We return to Playa Costa Verde every year in January and February for two weeks each. This is our paradise destination in the winter from Canada. We liked the fitness centre and especially Tony for a massage. He is exceptionally the best and has been there since the resort opened. I highly recommend if you go there, do not leave without a massage from him, you will not be sorry. He is also a great instructor at the gym. They have a 24 hour snack bar which has great snacks. This year I was so disappointed that they had no french fries. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help one. Samuel at guest services is a wonderful person and is most helpful with answering any questions and takes time to make sure one understands what he is telling you. Just make sure to give him a hug when you leave. The food in January left a lot to be desired but was for sure much better when we returned in February. The Italian restaurant was by far the best. for the A-La-Carte. Thank you for a great vacation and we will see you in January 2021.
