This new hotel provides a very much needed high end offering right in the middle of town. I stayed here on a recent trip, during the COVID crisis, immediately before FIN DE ANO. The room cost CUC$50 per night for single occupancy (right before the CUC was eliminated). The room was large, nicely appointed, with new furniture and fixtures. The bathroom was modern, with new fixtures. There was an ample supply of hot water, with reasonable pressure (hard to find). The towels and sheets were new and of good quality. The downside of this hotel experience were the services in the lobby bar and restaurant. The restaurant had almost nothing to serve (perhaps not the management’s fault in view of shortages). Upon requesting a beer at the lobby bar, I was told that there was no beer in the hotel. I then watched, as a door opened into the kitchen to reveal stacks of beers cases being unpacked. When I asked again, the next excuse was that the beer shipment was being reserved for a special upcoming dinner of hotel managers. When I complained, in writing, at the check in desk, that the beers need to be made available to paying guests, I was informed the next day that the management would prepared to sell me a dozen beers and would deliver them to my room the next day. They could apparently not grasp that, unlike Cubans, I was not trying to stockpile beers. I only wanted ONE ! After yelling good and loud, I eventually got one. What was going appears to be a version of the common scam, whereby the managers mark up the booze and sell it out the window, with the unrecorded excess profit being skimmed. The result is that the product is unavailable for regular paying guests. This should not happen in a properly managed hotel.

This is an attractive hotel in what, I thought, was a rather dirty and not very attractive town. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean and well-equipped, with everything in working order. Public areas, including the open internal courtyard and the bar, are also pleasant. Breakfast, with table service, was very satisfactory. And they have a smiling and efficient receptionist, a rare gem in this country!

We had a room on the first floor which was large but had a view on a wall 1 yard away You could not open the window easily, so you were completely dependent on the noisy airconditioning. The room was clean and had a nice Cuban decorated interior. The bathroom was "Cuban" so the toilet seat was not fixed properly, but the shower was OK. The lights were not always working as expected (dodgy wiring or switch?). The public spaces in the hotel were really nice with a lot of museum-like detail and the breakfast was fine. Because the room was on the rear of the hotel the traffic noise was limited. The location of the hotel was excellent and the staff polite and helpful. it also had a safe in the room. So if you like some character, this is quite a good place to start your Cuba trip.

Great hotel, best cappuccino nice historical location. Try the food, do not eat each day. Staff is nice, although basic English, but this adds to the charm. Many groups come here so when you visit as a couple adapt to very busy or very bored staff. Just not fast enough WI-FI 4 check in.
