We visited for 2 nights before hitting the jungle and waterfalls in Topes de Collantes. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly. The rooms were very spacious but looks very outdated. The shower was good. Both buffet (breakfast and dinner) was small but the food is okay.
Don’t waste your time staying overnight at this hotel if you want to visit Topes de Collantes and the wonderful jungle walk it provides. You might as well take a day trip from Trinidad and avoid the bad experience of this hotel. We are in Cuba with state run hotels but still as a guest you should feel welcome and be treated with a minimum of service – both totally absent at hotel Los Helechos.
We spent one night here as part of a tour to the national park. Our room in the main building, third floor, was a two room suite which was very satisfactory and clean, most important to me good mattress and good pillows. No complaints about the bathroom, except for lack of hand towels. Bath towels work fine! The first large room only contained a tv, two chairs and small coffee table. Lots of windows which I opened for the night however I had to close them later. Alot of noise and activity in front of the hotel all night, as well as the stray dogs fighting and barking. Buildings in rear might be a better choice. Buffet selection was limited but adequate.
Awfull stay, did not liked it at all. Our car crashes and had no other option than to stay there. Very rude staff, rooms are the same as a casa but way less personal and overpriced. No a la carte menu, just a disgusting (again overpriced) buffetrestaurant and no option to eat somewhere else or to book the room without breakfast. Staff was really rude, not interested and chewing gum while talking to us. Do yourself a favor: stay in trinidad and drive 15 minutes to go to Topes de Collantes during daytime!
That they call this a hotel is for me a riddle. High prices are okay when they are worth it. I can tell you, this is not. Old/ hard beds, horrible service(!) and a lot of stray dogs outside. I can give you a tip to drive past this hotel, because this is really not worth it. Go further to Trinidad, they have beautiful casa's there. The only good thing are the showers, further I can say that this was the worst hotel I've ever been in, in my life.
Visited for 1 night on the tour to Cienfuegos/Trinidad/Santa María. The hotel is very clean and the staff are friendly. Unfortunately it was a major storm the night we stayed with heavy rain all night/morning. This resulted in our hike to the waterfall being canceled which was out of our control. Great place to stay though! Rooms were also very spacious and very clean! Better than expected! Buffet was small but good :)
Just stayed here last week for a few nights. The front of the hotel looks fine and as far as I am concerned the room we had on the third floor was great. It was clean and had lots of space. the bathroom had a tiled shower ( a little dark in there with the shower curtain closed). The first night I had decent hot water, but I had a couple of showers that I wish were a little warmer, but okay. I think it was dependent upon the time of the day and hot water demand. The maid did a great job with our room. very pleased. We did not spend any time in the room except for sleeping - but there was a TV and a fridge. We even had a fresh rose. All and all I would definitely stay here again!
I have read several of the other reviews and I think we stayed at a totally different place. My friends and I found the place dirty, towels were stained and the bedspread was not clean. The floors were gritty and had a general air of being shabby. Our room had a redone bathroom but other friends stayed in a room that did not have good water pressure and the toilet refused to flush. The meals were buffet which was OK. Most of the meat is overcooked or covered in a sauce, which wasn't bad. The pool was indoors and large but the wild dogs in the area kept some people awake with their barking during the night.
We stayed here as part of an overnight excursion to Cienfuegos/Trinidad/Santa María. The room was large and clean. It was quite warm when we arrived at around 5 but switching the air con on it was fine for the evening. There was a fridge that just needed plugging in. There is a bar and restaurant. The food was buffet style and was ok. (There is also a disco and an indoor swimming pool - we didn't go into either so can't comment on how good they were). There isn't anything else to do as it is in the middle of the national park. Fine for an overnight stay.
An older hotel but with all the amenities of a newer one. Buffet style meals had a tremendous assortment to choose from. Cook to order breakfasts, dessert bar, lots of fresh fruit and veggies, plus meat and fish dishes. Rooms had a/c, and private baths. The countryside surrounding it is what yo go for!!!! The Topes de Collantes is am amazing park. And remember, you're in Cuba and they still have a bit of remodeling to do to catch up with other places. Relax and enjoy the moment.
