Bay Vista Waterfront Motel offers the only Picton accommodation ON the waterfront. We aren't just a motel, but a destination. Wake up to the sound of a Tui or Cacadas in our native bush and the smell of the sea at your doorstep. All our waterfront units are all north facing for all day sun & located right on the water’s edge with stunning views overlooking Waikawa Bay & the Marina. We are only 5 minutes by car from Picton township & have ample of off street parking for boats and trailers. It's only a short stroll to the local restaurant at the Marina, the boat launching ramps and playground.

I had pre-booked this accommodation for our first night in New Zealand, after viewing their website. The staff were polite and friendly. The room was clean, roomy, well appointed, in a quiet location and with a view to die for. There was a small kitchen with all necessary items needed, there was a dining table and the in-room heating was effective. The motel is a few kilometres from the town centre but the benefit was the really quiet location which was nice after a long day of driving. We were gobsmacked when we saw the uninterrupted view of the bay from our room. There is a nice patio with a small table and chairs to sit at so you can have a cuppa, admire the view and watch the birdlife and boats. We definitely didn't want to leave the next morning but it was our first day in NZ so we had to. We will definitely stay again when we are in Picton next time.

What a lovely place to stay. This tidy modern motel is situated right on the Harbour's edge. Stepped out the door in the morning with our coffee and were greeted by some gorgeous ducks. What characters. Huge shared grass area leading down to the sea.
We had a seperate bedroom and living room with a dining table, for only $162.50. Such good value and a change from the teeny single motel room we had just stayed in in Levin and this only cost us $12.50 more. We needed kitchen facilities due to our special diet. The kitchen had lots in it, even an oven, but the hotplates were not easy to use and the non-stick frypan was a scratched up mess that needed to be binned. This tended to be an ongoing problem with many of the motels we stayed in on our South Island tour.

We loved staying at the Bay Vista Waterfront in Picton! It’s located just a couple of miles outside of town on a beautiful calm bay, with countless birds to watch from that charming little patio. We loved it! Our room was quiet, comfortable and had a perfect view of the bay. It was very clean and comfortable for the two of us for 3 nights. We really appreciated the kitchenette. A small container of milk was provided for our morning coffee and tea, which was lovely. We appreciated the coin operated washers and dryers near reception. We highly recommend the Bay Vista Waterfront!

This is a small motel but worth every cent. The motel is in a beautiful location with fantastic views over the bay.
The room was spacious and tastefully decorated, filled with light and air from the large glass doors that face the water. It is disability accessible. The bed was very comfortable and there was outdoor seating.
It was great to see toiletry dispensing bottles in the bathroom to minimise plastic waste.
Rachel was very welcoming and helpful with good advice on things to do and where to eat.

We were welcomed upon arrival by Rachel, who was simply delightful to talk to and very helpful. We stayed 4 nights. Our room, although simply appointed (the way we like it….not too much clutter!) was clean and spacious. We had 2 bedrooms so that we could unpack in one bedroom and sleep in the other. The kitchen was well equipped with a large refrigerator and everything we needed to make breakfast and lunch. The “living room / dining room” looks out over the bay to the north, with lots of shorebirds and waterfowl to enjoy watching. It was quiet and we slept soundly. The bathroom was spacious and the shower was nice; however, the shower is not enclosed (but has a shower curtain) and much of the bathroom floor gets wet. However, it dries quickly. The windows and the sliding glass door could also use some screens.

We really liked the Bay Vista and recommend it; it is also very reasonably priced.

This motel is located right on the water with a million dollar view and there are seats off the front porch for you to enjoy the view.

Inside you have what looks to be relatively new construction with two bedrooms (small but efficient), a decent size bathroom and kitchen and a small living room with another single bed. Lot's of room. All the decorating looks new.

I read some of the older reviews and wonder if this was before these newer units were constructed. If not, those reviews do not reflect our experience.

It is expensive for what it is for a couple whom doesn't need all that room but if you have a family, this would be a great option.

Our only issue was the bathroom light did not work and there was not way to use bathroom at night without a iPhone light.

The staff are incredibly helpful and accommodated my group even with last minute booking changes. The room was amazing with a stunning view and at such a good price the value for money is just as exceptional. I could not recommend Bay Vista Waterfront Motel enough to anyone travelling to Picton.

Incredible location, the view has to be experienced to be believed. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.

Stayed here in 2019 and when we decided to return to New Zealand this was the first place we booked again. And it didn’t disappoint.

We had a two bedroom apartment. Kitchen had everything we needed. Shower was great.

On the practical side, there is a washing machine that we could use, along with a dryer as well as a clothesline which is very handy.

A weekend away after a couple of horrendous weeks
Was great to have accommodation with a beautiful view and it is quite peaceful
You can hear the ferry boats coming and going it’s not invasive plus they are quite awesome to watch as the they leave.
There is quite a lot of bird life. ,black swans, ducks, seagulls and tui.
The tide goes out quite a way so it’s good to go for a look on the beach area.
Our room was great
We were given a two bedroom unit.
There was a heater available to warm the unit and the spare bedroom had a heater on the wall.
There were plenty of extra blankets and pillows
The towels were changed each day.

The unit was clean and tidy
The bathroom had an unusual smell, if we shut the window it intensified.
So left the window open and closed the door.
So it wasn’t a problem

We only had one nights stay on our way to the ferry, for which the motel was ideally located. There is a great view over the harbour from the rear of the units and the motel is within easy walking distance to the bars on the marina. The unit we stayed in was spotless and contained all kitchen equipment and utensils that we needed. Check in and check out were easy. We felt well looked after by the amenable host, Liz. We would definitely stay again.
