Our friendly, family run hotel enjoys the ideal location in the centre of Lauterbrunnen, only a 5 minute walk from the train station, with epic views of the famous “Staubbach” waterfall. We have a famous restaurant with amazing views from the terrace for al-fresco dining. Our beer garden is very popular and the ideal place for good coffee, local beer or maybe an aperol spritz. We have a dynamic and professional team, and our Swiss and International staff are multi-lingual. German, French, Italian, English and Portuguese are all spoken fluently. We offer free WLAN/WIFI throughout the hotel. Lauterbrunnen itself is situated in one of the most awe-inspiring settings in the world. Ideal for summer and winter vacations with quick and easy access to Mürren, Wengen or Kleine Scheidegg. Our Restaurant in Hotel Oberland is very popular. Our Head-Chef is Herr Raymond Kohler from Canton Bern. We serve Swiss and international dishes and we are famous for the quality of our service.

Had an excellent time staying at the Oberland hotel in early February!

The room was very clean, well organized, and had a stunning view of the waterfall. We had excellent water pressure in the gorgeous shower

The location was very central and easy to access both the cable car and the train station

We had the breakfast every morning and the selection of food never failed to disappoint. We also tried the food in the restaurant and it was outstanding! (I recommend the fondue)

The staff were all exceptionally nice and helpful with any questions and recommendations for activities (shout out to Mirka for the fondue experience) and Stephen was an amazing host.

I would highly recommend staying here to make your trip to Lauterbrunnen that much more special!

I stayed at the Hotel Oberland last September for the eighth time since 1991. Each time I have stayed there I am reminded of why I cherish the place. It is not because the locations is ideal - which it is. It is partly because the staff are welcoming - they are beyond welcoming - they are so concerned with their visitors that you hate to leave them behind. But, perhaps, even more than that, the Hotel Oberland provides the ultimate Swiss Alpine experience. The rich tapestry of vacationing in the Alps could not be provided more thoroughly than at the Hotel Oberland I am anxious to return. Mike B.

Everything was perfect! I was in the valley for skiing & the location was ideal for walking to the station or cable car. Every morning the team provided a nutritious breakfast to fuel my day! The friendly reception Staff, Merka, Barbara & Sandra, made me feel right at home which is so important for a solo female traveller! In the evenings the restaurant had some delicious food choices for a veggie including soup, rosti, fondue among other tasty options. My single room was comfy & warm, also a very good size with a balcony too!

If I was going to book a stay at the Hotel Oberland, Lauterbrunnen I would definitely use a booking website. Do not book direct.
We didn’t mind booking directly with the hotel as we have had two very pleasant previous stays, what we didn’t bargain for was the hotel had new management since our last visit.
In May we booked for five nights over the ’24 Christmas, prepaying in full which is the hotels request. At the end of October they cancelled our Christmas Eve and Christmas Night booking, leaving us with three nights.
This was done by email, with no offer of a refund, the email went to spam and we didn’t see it for five days, by which time the hotel had closed for five and a half weeks. At first we thought the hotels emails had been hacked and we were being scammed, but eventually by going through the local tourist bureau we managed to get in contact with the hotel, who confirmed it as correct.
We walked on eggshells from then on with the hotel, eventually managing to get a refund over six weeks after they cancelled two of our five nights. They said they were slow because they were closed, but I did note during that time that we wanted our refund they did post 67 pictures on Facebook. My guestimate is their cancellation cost us about 110CHF above what we would have paid, as we had to find somewhere else at shorter notice.
We had to contact them for our refund, they made no effort to contact us.
Compare to someone else who had their Norway hotel cancel a night. The hotel rang and rang and rang them until contacting them, apologising profusely and offered to pay for them to stay somewhere else.

Response from Hotel Oberland, Owner at Hotel Oberland
Responded Jan 19, 2025
Sorry to hear you had this bad experience, the vast majority of guests love their stay at Hotel Oberland. With respect, if you had responded in October when we contacted you then you would have received an immediate refund. Unfortunately you responded in November when our hotel is always closed for a 5 week break between summer and winter seasons. As is often the case with a negative review, you have left out some important points of fact. With respect, we'll state them here for the benefit of future guests: - Our management decided in October 2024 that it was better for our hotel staff to enjoy time with their families over Christmas, so we arranged to close the hotel on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. - The reservation, which was not in your name, was the only booking in our hotel for the Christmas period, so we contacted you in October about this decision to give our staff a break on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. - You did not respond until November, by which time our hotel had closed for its annual 5 week off-season break, a perfectly normal occurrence here in Alpine resorts. And when our hotel is closed for 5 weeks, it is literally closed, there are no staff working in any department for 5 weeks, apart from painters and decorators who are not employed by Hotel Oberland directly. Hence the reason for the delay in your refund, there was no staff member present to refund you, if you had responded in October you would have been immediately refunded. - When we finally did get a response in November, Ms Simms apologised for her "slow reply" and proceeded to clearly state that she did not see our October email because it "had gone to the spam folder". - In the October email we had offered you the chance to stay at our hotel apartment during the 2 nights that the hotel would be closed. You did not accept this offer - In our October correspondence we also offered you the chance to cancel in full with a refund or just cancel some of the nights, with a refund. When we got a response in November you opted to cancel 2 of your 5 nights and just stay for 3 nights, which you did. - Once our hotel reopened on December 8th, you were immediately refunded in full for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. In the unlikely event of a guest requiring a refund, we always strive to pay it in a timely manner. In this case a problem occurred because you responded when our hotel was closed for its annual 5 week break. Best wishes and safe travels Hotel Oberland

This property is phoning it in on all levels. Our room had debris on the main room and bathroom floors from not being cleaned and two outlets were not functioning. We were charged for our 'reserved' parking place; however, there were no available spaces. We had to drive further into the valley to pay yet again for lot parking and walk back our luggage in the rain. Our dinner reservation - 20+ minutes for anyone to come to our table. As we attempted to order, we were advised that the items were unavailable (about 1/3 of the menu). The rosti that was ordered was delicious, the spaghetti bolognes was not. After the drink order, our waitress never returned, although we did see her streetside talking with locals walking by. She never returned. We finally were able to flag someone down for more water and dessert and we're told there was no dessert available. They stated the same to the table next to us. It took another half hour to receive our bill to pay. The female waitstaff at the restaurant are so busy talking with each other and locals walking by that they have no time for the customers. In our two weeks of travel, this was the only property that we would not recommend. Choose another property. This property is clearly taking advantage of the abundance of tourists and have stopped trying. We were there 10 years ago and it was totally different experience. Sad.

Many thanks for staying with us, sorry to read that many things were not to your liking. While we don't agree with your assertion that we are 'phoning it', and this clear from the many great reviews we are fortunate to receive daily from very satisfied guests who love Hotel Oberland and our famously friendly staff, we will certainly talk with our team about the points you raise and do our best to continue improving. Best wishes Stephen and the Hotel Oberland team note: regarding parking, during your stay in early summer 2024, all our parking spaces (which are directly opposite our front door) were taken over by the Lauterbrunnen town council to perform essential road-works. They provided us with parking spaces for guests in their public car-park beside the Church, that is why you had to park there. It was entirely beyond our control and now that the roadworks are finished, it is not something that future guests can expect.

Room itself was okay (nothing special), but the self-check-in process is woefully deficient and management in the morning was quite poor. We arrived at 10pm after a long day of driving and the check in machine gave us errors on each attempt (despite charging our credit card 135CHF each time). We then had to phone an agent and it took us almost half an hour to check in, which is ridiculous. Then, the next morning, it turned out the booking had been made for one person instead of two, so the manager insisted we pay a 45 CHF surcharge (which doesn't make sense for just an extra breakfast) even though the price posted online was significantly cheaper. I didn't agree with this, but the manager then force charged my credit card and was terrible to deal with. Would avoid this hotel.

Greetings from Hotel Oberland , we genuinely think you may be mistaking us with another Hotel. (there are several other Hotels also called 'Oberland' in Switzerland and also one in France and in Lichtenstein) We have no self-checkin machine and no manager here has any recollection of this situation. If this is a mistake, we kindly ask you remove the review, if not then please email us at info@hoteloberland.ch so we can clarify and rectify the situation. The location is very close to the Lauterbrunnen station and the famous Staubbach falls.

They may have purchased another hotel called Crystal, where we actually got the room. The room nice and big with two beds big enough to accommodate 4 persons.

Breakfast is included and it's good.

The bathroom had a bathtub. The view from balcony was nice. We could see the Staubbach falls.

Regarding reception, they need to be more proactive. They did not provide with the wifi password, which I had to ask them over the phone.

Even there was no glass for drinking water in the room. The lady in the reception just handed over the keys and left. We expected that she would let us know the phone numbers to call for talking to the reception or the restaurant or room service. I found the phone going outside the room.

The staff in the receptions can remember this and improve to some extent.

The restaurant is ridiculously overpriced. To share the food an empty plate costs 5 CHF. They even told that each glass of tap water would cost 5 CHF. We just took one glass and somehow they didn't take the charge.

In one word the staffs seemed to be a bit reluctant about their guests.

Response from Hotel Oberland, Owner at Hotel Oberland
Responded Aug 2, 2022
Thank you Mr. Banerjee for your review I am happy to hear you enjoyed many things about Hotel Oberland, including the free breakfast, nice balcony with view of the waterfalls and the large clean bedroom. We definitely can improve on many things, like all hotels, and I will talk to my team and we will take into consideration your points as we strive to be even better. Thankfully, most guests are delighted with their stay at Hotel Oberland. With respect, we don't think our restaurant is overpriced, our prices are normal for Switzerland. So we will not be making any changes in pricing right now, although we will always keep an eye on prices (and costs). Costs are high in Switzerland and restaurant salaries are double that of the EU (often more) Tap water is free in our restaurant if other drinks (non-alcoholic or with alchohol) are purchased. If not, then we charge chf2 per glass of tap water, not chf5 as you have incorrectly stated. You were actually not charged anything for tap-water despite not ordering any paid-for drinks. At your table one of you did not want to order a meal, and asked for extra plate in order to share another's main course. We simply cant allow this for free, I wish we could but it’s not sustainable. So we charge CHF5 for the extra plate requested by people who don’t want to order a meal. I think diners respect our right to try and make a profit. And most diners understand that when they go for an evening dinner to a nice restaurant, there is an expectation that they will each order a dinner. Costs are high in Switzerland and restaurant salaries are double that of the EU. I dine out every few weeks and I would never expect a popular restaurant to give us a nice table and then one of us declines to order a meal but instead requests an empty plate for free, washed down with free tap water. Sharing plates are indeed 5 CHF, but we plan to end this practise soon and instead respectfully expect that all guests visiting our popular restaurant terrace support our business by purchasing one main course per adult. This will make things easier. I hope this helps you understand our position. Best wishes to you Stephen Host and owner

We felt cared for. Everyone at the front desk was extremely accommodating with dinner reservations , excursions and parking information. Matin was Jack of all trades cleaning rooms, running hairdryers up to the fourth floor cheerfully when it was quite a haul. No elevators. Matin’s recommendation to go to Schiltorn Mountain on our last day ended up being our best day in Lauterbrunnen. How can we ever thank him!!
We had a reservation for 12 people at the Hotel Overland Restaurant but the restaurant was unexpectedly closed due to staff shortages so Linda at the front desk, was able to help us book another restaurant in Wengen plus she provided excellent information on how to catch the train up there! Location of Hotel Oberland was extremely convenient to the train station and bus stops. Front staff shared times for bus pick ups and with us having a Swiss Travel pass it was free. We used it a lot to get to Trummelbach Falls and also the cable cars to Schilltorn mountains.

We stayed in the crystal annex building. The room was plain, but large and comfortable. The balcony was huge and had an absolutely amazing view of Stubbach falls. The staff was friendly and helpful. The shower is a little funky, and the shower head kept sliding down but it was fine to use. The breakfast leaves a lot to be desired but it’s free and at least gives you a little something to get your day started. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to explore this beautiful area.

I normally don’t leave reviews but we had such a great experience at hotel Oberland I felt like I had to! Our room had a massive balcony with a beautiful view out over the town into the valley and was very spacious compared to other hotels we have stayed at in Switzerland. The check in process was seamless even though we arrived rather early and the entire hotel staff was very welcoming and everyone spoke great English. The hotel is also in an absolutely perfect spot. It’s only a 5 minute walk to the train station to get to Wengen and the ski slopes and even shorter to get to groceries. It even has a view of the waterfall. We would definitely stay at Hotel Oberland again as soon as possible!

Greetings from Hotel Oberland, We have two buildings at Hotel Oberland, both are directly across the street from each other, 10 seconds walk. The original building is a 125 year old traditional wooden structure. It has 24 bedrooms across 4 floors (not including ground floor) and has no elevator. The modern annexe is a modern structure with 7 bedrooms and has an elevator. Breakfast for both buildings is served in the original hotel building from 7.30 to 9.30. Our restaurant is open 7 days per week. Safe travels. Danke!
