All of the staff at reception were very friendly and spoke excellent English. The hotel is very clean, tastefully decorated and the room was beautiful. It was a good size with a table, two chairs, wardrobe with shelves and hangers, a bench as well as a standard in-room safe. There were plenty of electric outlets including one European. The bed was very supportive and comfortable with large foldable pillows. The bathroom was a little on the small side but shower was powerful and water was hot. Our room also had a balcony with fantastic views of the snow capped mountains with a couple of outdoor chairs.
We had our evening meal in the hotel. There is an excellent menu with a wide range of dishes at very fair prices. Lucy (our waitress) was friendly and a great help. The pizzas looked superb. The Rosti was fantastic and I would highly recommend!
Breakfast was self-serve and was excellent. There were a variety of juices and cereals, including a couple of gluten free options. There were also a selection of breads and pastries, a selection of fruits, cheeses and cold meats. There were three types of hot food; streaky bacon, scrambled eggs and sausages. Boiled eggs were also available.
I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and we will definitely return when we are next in this area of the Swiss alps. Checkout is earlier than most hotels so we didn’t get to enjoy the room for as long as we would have liked.
The staff in Hotel Silberhorn was so friendly and helpful, especially Sandra at the reception desk and Franziska in the dining room. They made our stay a delight.
Owner, Beat, who is a 5th generation hotel operator was also very helpful. He offered to take our luggage to the train station upon our departure. Guests should be aware that the hotel is located on a hill. One needs to climb a pretty steep incline from the train station to get to the hotel. Our group mostly in the 70's and 80's had a tough time hauling our luggage uphill. The hotel does not have elevator. Luckily Beat asked the staff to help us carry our luggage upstairs. The hotel should consider offering luggage service to and from the train station, especially for elderly guests.
Overall, it was an excellent stay in Hotel Silberhorn. I would highly recommend anyone visiting Switzerland not to miss Lauterbrunnen and make sure to stay in Hotel Silberhorn. Do ask for rooms that have full valley view. We were given a room on the side close to the slope where the view of the valley was very limited and waterfall view was blocked by a tree. A shame. Perhaps the tree should be trimmed or removed.
The staff were absolutely wonderful, and truly went above and beyond for us. My steamer broke and one of the staff lent me her personal steamer so I could steam my wedding dress. They lent us utensils and plates and flutes for a picnic. They thoughtfully gave us little bottles of champagne the night of our wedding. They gave us incredible recommendations throughout our stay. Nearly everyone was multilingual and made communicating easy.
The rooms were clean and beautiful and comfortable, with absolutely gorgeous views. We are quite picky about cleanliness in hotels - and Hotel Silberhorn was perfection. We stayed in the H-top suite for two nights and then switched to D-valley H100 for three nights.
The lobby has a coffee machine as well as both still and sparkling water that you can access 24/7. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and had both European and some traditional American breakfast options. There is also free wifi and a few outlet options in the rooms (not just Swiss but USB and the other type of European outlet).
The town of Lauterbrunnen itself was so special and beautiful. It was hard to come home! We can’t wait to come back to this magical hotel and town again someday.
