We are a modest middle class hotel. Built in 1890 and put to a new use as a bed & breakfast; enjoy the charm of our landmark hotel in a friendly, informal atmosphere. Only an 8-10 minute walk from the train station, we are the perfect base to explore the region, close enough to enjoy the best views in town of the Staubbach falls but far enough away to stay dry.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We stayed here for part of our anniversary trip in Switzerland. We arrived with heart shaped rose pedals on the bed and some Swiss chocolate. We stayed in room 17 (I'm pretty sure it was 17) that had its own attached bathroom. It was a small bathroom but at least it was private. The shower is about the size of a cruise ship shower (tiny!) but the water pressure was amazing! Our room faces the main street with a nice sized balcony with chairs and a table to sit and people watch or read/relax and a view of the waterfall. The hotel is in a good location, everything in Lauterbrunnen is walkable or bike-able. There is a cute church behind the hotel which you will hear the church bells on the hour and I think quarter hour too however at night we used a fan for ambient noise and didn't hear them, even with the windows open so not sure if they ring during the night. Saturday night we heard the church bells in the evening for about 15 minutes. It was beautiful. Also, one evening the building across the street had a room with a band practicing with ours and their windows open. It was like we had our own private concert. There is no air conditioning in the rooms but keeping the windows open and a fan was sufficient. Every staff member we encountered was very lovely and nice. They answered all of our questions and were helpful. The breakfast buffet was good. They had gluten-free bread for me when I asked. All day they have coffee and teas available. They also have an ice machine for ice! As an American, we like ice in our cold drinks. They have several sitting areas with sofas, chairs and a table to relax. No TVs in the rooms but there was a TV in the lobby area. They had a really cute kids corner with kids toys in one of the common areas. The hotel also has a "picnic area" in which there are table and chairs to eat at, a small fridge to keep any food/drinks you'd like, a microwave, sink, silverware, cups and other basic cooking utensils to use. That was very nice to have access to. The hotel was clean and very charming decor.

Hotel located in a strategic point, from some rooms you can see the Staubbach waterfall as well as from the breakfast room. The hall is a little dated and the staff does not speak Italian, only the young lady who welcomed us, speaking a little Spanish and a little English, came to meet us. Maria was also very kind and welcomed us every day in the breakfast room and wished us a good day (in English). The rooms were comfortable and functional, we had 2 connecting rooms, both equipped with sinks. The bathroom lacks a bidet but otherwise it looked like it had just been renovated. The floor is carpeted (personally I don't like it but everything was very clean). The beds were comfortable but the pillows were really uncomfortable. I recommend bringing an adapter for Schuko plugs while 10 Ampere Italian plugs are fine, otherwise the hotel gives the possibility of having one on loan leaving a deposit of 20 euros or 20 Swiss francs. Convenient hotel parking. Elevator large enough even for disabled people or strollers. In the hotel it is possible to heat dishes in the microwave oven in the picnic area. The hotel only offers breakfast service in addition to overnight stay. I highly recommend it because it is in the central and suggestive point of Lauterbrunnen.

We've stayed here before and wanted to take our friends here for their trip to Switzerland. Lovely place in a lovely location. Rooms were great with connecting balconies and a tremendous view down the valley and of the larger waterfall. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good and the location is great as you sit and look out at the mountains and the waterfalls. Very easy access to the train-station and numerous restaurants. Great easy hiking up the valley from the hotel. I really liked the fact that you can get coffee or tea downstairs all the way till 10 at night. We didn't move our car the entire time we were there because everything was so convenient. This is the only place we would stay when in this area and it should be the only place you stay also.

We had an amazing stay at Hotel Staubbach! It felt like a cross between a hotel and a Bed and Breakfast with a lot of authentic Swiss charm. We enjoyed getting food from Co-Op or a local take out place and eating it in the picnic room to save some money. The breakfast here was also my favorite out of the three places we stayed on our trip! The room was clean and did not feel cramped, but most importantly we loved the balcony. The rooms do get a little hot for someone who is used to air conditioning, so we tried to keep our windows open as much as possible to get some cool breeze in, which worked fine. It was the perfect place to sit, decompress, and people/waterfall watch at the end of each busy day! If you're looking for a luxurious hotel experience, this probably isn't the hotel for you, but if you're looking for authentic Swiss charm, great hospitality, and amazing views, it's the perfect place.

We booked a room facing the waterfall with a balcony. The view when you wake up is stunning. You definitely do not see that every day.
The hotel is near 100 years old and so there is no need to try and make it modern. I really feel it would mess up everything.
The welcome drink with staff was a nice touch.
The shower was comfortable with good pressure and hot water. I appreciated that the hall/bathroom area could be closed off separately.
We wish we could have tried breakfast but had to leave in a rush.
This hotel was exactly what we were looking for

We absolutely loved this hotel! They were so incredibly friendly, and that started long before our stay when I first made our reservation. I reached out ahead of time with a question about where in town I could rent hiking poles, and they were happy to loan my husband and I each a pair for free that they had lying around. They were also super helpful with restaurant reservations, and called ahead for us to several restaurants upon our arrival in Lauterbrunnen.
We booked a waterfall view room and were blessed with what had to be one of the best rooms in the hotel. We were in room 17 on the second floor, which is a corner room. That meant windows on two sides of the room and a wraparound balcony! We were able to lay in bed and see the mountains at the far end of the valley, which was absolutely amazing. The room was large, with plenty of room to move around and store our suitcases. They also provided a plug-in fan, which was fantastic for keeping us cool at night since there is no air conditioning. Lauterbrunnen is a bit of a madhouse during the day but early in the morning there is nothing better than sitting on the balcony watching the sun rise, as everything at that time is utterly peaceful. I only wish I’d been able to get a coffee to drink that early! This hotel does not have a coffee maker or kettle in the room (or a fridge). Instead, you have to go downstairs to the breakfast area to get your coffee, which is not ready until 7:30am (though there is a kettle and powdered coffee so you can make your own in the “picnic” room on the main floor. This room also has a shared fridge). You also can’t get breakfast before then. There were a few mornings where our hiking plans involved catching an 8am train, which meant we had roughly 10 minutes in which to scarf down breakfast and then make a run for the train station (which is about a 10 minute walk). Neither of these are a huge deal, but it would be amazing if breakfast and coffee service began a little earlier, perhaps at 7am. The only other thing to know about this hotel is that the sink is in the main bedroom area instead of behind a closed door. Not a huge deal, but a slight annoyance when one person gets up much earlier than the other to start getting ready.

The only reason I rated it 4 rather than 5 was because of the cost, nearly 180 Swiss Francs per night. Everything else was perfect. Inbeatble location 1 bus stop away from the Bahnhof, with picture perfect views of the church and Staubbach falls from the dining room window. The church bells actually added to the experience, didn't bother us at all. The dawn view of the town from our 3th floor window, which also included the arriving/departing trains was great. Room was decently appointed, nothing lacking. Breakfast had a good spread, including fresh scrambled eggs too. Free 24/hour coffee/tea was a huge bonus in expensive Switzerland. The access to a microwave and kitchen with crockery and seating tables was a big help too. The young lady at the reception was very friendly and cheerful, unfortunately I cannot recall the name. The Staubach Falls walk is priceless. COOP grocery store is also closeby, just across from the Bahnhof. All stores in Switzerland close early (7 pm?), 5 pm on Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays.

Hotel Staubbach is in a fantastic location looking up the Lauterbrunnen Valley to gorgeous mountain peaks and with stunning Staubbach Falls literally next door. There is free parking in front of the hotel and in an adjacent unpaved lot. The hotel provides a Lauterbrunnen guest card that gives discounts at local attractions, including some that were not covered by our Swiss Travel Pass. It also helps that it is a nice hotel with friendly and super-helpful staff. David in particular was great, but everyone we dealt with was wonderful!
The hotel is old (built in 1890), but in good shape. The water pressure and hot water in the shower are amazing. You can't use full pressure; it’s just too much! There are no TV or phone, but who cares. There is a slight problem in that the church down the street rings its bells EVERY hour, even at night. However, we had good earplugs and that solved the problem.
We particularly enjoyed our large room with balcony and outstanding view of the falls. We had a wine/cheese/charcuterie/bread dinner out there several nights. The hotel has a "picnic" room with a communal kitchen (refrigerator, freezer, microwave, sink) where you can store any perishable food items and there is an eclectic mixture of dinnerware, glassware, and eating utensils to borrow.
The included breakfast was excellent. We had local cheeses, freshly scrambled eggs, delicious English bacon, bircher muesli, yogurt, fresh croissants, meats, local cherry and strawberry jams, and fresh fruit. We had to depart early on our final morning and they were nice enough to prepare a breakfast for us to take away: a boiled egg, ham and cheese sandwich, excellent apple, water, condiments. Such a good place and such nice people!

Hotel Staubbach is old-fashioned in the best since of the word. Having chosen pride of place in 1890 it continues to offer warm hospitality from its ideal location, with views of the valley and waterfalls from the breakfast room or from the balcony of your room if you booked that possibility. There are no bad views. Rooms are simply furnished and spotlessly clean. The breakfast buffet is perfectly fine and the staff is very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. If you require something fancy stay at Hotel Silberhorn, otherwise enjoy an authentic and lovely vintage experience here.

Large comfortable family room with three beds and lots of storage. Large radiators to dry ski clothes on after skiing. Great powerful and warm shower room ensuite. Third floor rooms opposite side to room 38 have views of the waterfall. I stayed with Oak Hall. Bus stop to lifts about a minute walk from hotel, or walk to Lauterbrunen train Station takes 8 minutes.

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately Lauterbrunnen does not yet have fibre opric cables so the infrastructure cannot really cope with the demand. We have wifi in the hotel and in the rooms but it is by no means super high speed. It certainly covers the basics but hopefully you will be looking at the view rather than your computer. We will let you know when we make it to the 21st century....!
Hello!
Yes; we do have our own website and it's also possible to make a room reservation there; but if you can't find availability; please feel free to write us an e-mail and we'll check the possibility!
Unfortunately it's not possible to post a website address here; but if you just search for the name of the hotel; you should be able to find us easily!
Kind regards,
Adam

Dear Alumni Guy,
Thank you very much for your enquiry and your kind words. The hotel has a total of 26 rooms, including doubles, twins, triples and quads. We could accommodate a group of about 60 guests. Please feel free to get in touch with us directly and we would be happy to send you an offer when you have an idea of your travel dates. The hotel was built in 1890 and still has plenty of character and spectacular views. However it is by no means a luxury place, more like a comfy, homey lodge.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards
Angie

Hello Traci,
Lovely to hear from you and thank you for your kind words :-) We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and the elderflower drink too. However we are embarrassed to say that we don't make the drink ourselves, we buy a cordial and just mix with water. I checked on amazon and you can buy it in the US too. Just look for elderflower cordial (i noticed some European brands too with the name HolunderblĂĽten which is the same thing). Hope you can find it and it brings back some memories of Switzerland.
Best wishes from all of us here at the Staubbach
Dear Eva,
Thank you very much for your mail and question.
We have two interconnecting family room types.
1, "Quadruple room": This room type consists of two double rooms with an interconnecting door between the rooms.
There are two - two beds in each rooms (four beds altogether) and in one of the rooms we can place one fold-out bed for a fifth person; if necessary.
(The maximum occupancy of this room type is five people // including babies and children.)
There is one bathroom in the quadruple room. It is not in between the rooms and only accessible by walking through one of the rooms.
These quadruple rooms have no balcony and are north facing, but they have a wonderful mountain and village view and there is a public balcony on the south side (waterfall view) just across the hall that you are welcome to enjoy. It is not used very often.
2, "Quadruple room with balcony and waterfall view": This room type consists of two rooms with an interconnecting door between the rooms.
There are two single beds (they're pushed together usually; but they can be separated slightly) in one room and an adult size bunk bed in the other room (four beds altogether).
In this room type there isn't enough place for an extra bed for an additional person. (The maximum occupancy of this room type is four people // including babies and children.)
There is one bathroom (in the double room). It is not in between the rooms and only accessible by walking through one of the rooms.
This room type has a balcony and it's located on the south side of the building (full valley / waterfall view).
I hope this answers your question; but please don't hesitate to get back to us if you have any more questions or need more information.
If you'd like; please make a visit on our website where you can find more detailed descriptions of our rooms / categories / booking conditions.
Kind regards,
Adam
