In a magnificent setting at the furthest tip of Monemvasia Castle, 300 m from the Castle's gate, you may find Bastione Malvasia Hotel (ex New Malvasia). The view is amazing, breathtaking. Built with stones from the surrounding area and with a great respect to the architectural style and the aesthetics of the Castle, some with balcony with sea view and some with fireplaces for warmth in the winter, the rooms of Bastione Malvasia Hotel offer a special experience of accommodation. Here, the traditional elements combine perfectly with all the modern amenities plus some designer touches. All the rooms are equipped with air conditioning, mini fridge, telephone, flat screen satellite TV, hairdryer. Free wireless Internet access (WiFi) is available in public areas of the hotel. Please note that Bastione Malvasia Hotel features a café with spectacular sea views and a peaceful atmosphere that is worth visiting.

Detailed Reviews
Beautiful hotel in an historic mansion overlooking the ocean. Truly deserves the title "boutique hotel": a lot of furniture was made especially for the room, as well as the windows, all in quality wood. Not a spot of paint on the wood, great attention to detail. Very clean, actually spotless. Great breakfast in beautiful room. We slept in two different rooms: one with a high beam ceiling with a terrasse looking out to the fortress and the sea, and another one on the ground floor that looked like an antique cellar: spectacular! The hotel also had a cafe that was really sought out because of its great location. I highly recommend!

This hotel as several buildings in the old Castle but the Bastione buildings and especially Room 8 have the most amazing location imaginable. As Monemvasia gets more touristy over the past years, there are tons of people and touristy shops as you enter the town, but this hotel is all the way at the end of the main street at the end of the town near the enclosing wall so it's quiet and peaceful and beautiful. We had a gorgeous balcony with amazing views over the old town and the water. It was hard to leave to explore the town. Amazing early morning color on the buildings seen from the terrace. The room and features were great, the breakfast buffet was terrific, and the hotel staff were very helpful in recommending a terrific restaurant that was so good we ate there both nights.
It just doesn't get any better than this!!

First, the good. The staff at Bastione Malvasia is friendly and welcoming. The location of the hotel is great. Yes, it is at the end of the main street, so farther to walk, but it means you get unobstructed views of the city wall and see and it is exceptionally quiet at night. Our private terrace, as well as the terrace for the hotel cafe, was stunning and relaxing. This hotel also had the best mattresses and bed linens out of anywhere I have ever stayed in Greece. The toiletries and water pressure were good, as was the wifi signal. The room was a triple, and was very spacious with a bed upstairs and downstairs and unique features like rock right in the room.
However, the room did suffer, probably due to its location in an abandoned town on a rock. From dusk til midmorning, our room was full of pill bugs. I was okay with this, as pill bugs are harmless and good for the ecosystem, but there were over 15 - in my bed, on the walls, on the floor where I stepped. Not sure the hotel could help it, but I will say the doors did not seal well and there were no screens in the doors. I hike and camp and was fine, but I think many people would not be okay paying 110 Euro a night (good value otherwise) to sleep with bugs. The only other issue we had was that you were not allowed to take your breakfast to the terrace because it is part of the cafe - you must eat inside, which due to COVID, we did not prefer. The breakfast was high quality though, and the windows were kept open.

We stopped at the bar on the veranda for a quick coffee break, apart for the rip off prices we were also served coffee made with tap water, obviously the glasses of water coming with the coffee were from the tap too. Why is this important? Because tap water is filtered from the sea and tastes horrible , it has a salty aftertaste and this is why bottled water is used everywhere in Greece especially to make coffee and to be served at the bars. When asked why we were served tap water the waitress just raised her shoulders and said something like “who cares”. Do yourself a favour when you visit this beautiful place : eat and drink elsewhere, you will save a lot of money and get better quality and service. The whole place is a tourist trap.

So we booked an online call from 23September till 25 for 75€ per night, standard double room, without breakfast cause of covid 19.(but the other hotel, Malvasia has.)
Ok in the castle you pay more but I think it worths,so here we go.
From the time we enter to the room it smells awful we left the door ad the windows open but it continues.
First of all was small, the bathroom, the closet, especially the bed, barely we fitted well.
From the first night I so on the floor bugs but I told ok maybe cause we left the door of the balcony open.
But then at our last night here they go up to my face! And from that time I couldn’t sleep at all cause all the floor has dead bugs!
You pay so many per night without breakfast to see the bugs!
And no talk from the reception about a receipt.
Thank you !!

There might be more luxurious options to stay in Monemvasia but this wonderful place offers everything you need to enjoy a wonderful stay in this enchanting medieval fortress. It is located at the end of the medieval town, near the huge fortification, so you stay a bit away from the many tourists strolling through the streets during the day. The best time to enjoy Monemvasia is anyway when daytourists have gone, that is why you should absolutely stay overnight.
The place is tastefully restored, the cosy room had a beautiful chimney and seaview. A small cafe in the hotel with outdoor seating and splendid views.
Excellent value, highly recommended!

We stayed one night at the Bastione Malvasia Hotel in the end of February 2020 ... and we were immediately taken by the location, the blue sky, the breathtaing sea view and all the history this place is surrounded with.
The room met perfectly our needs (two adaults and one teenager) and the breakfast with the freshly made orange juice was delicious and more than enough ;-)
Please be informed that you have to park your car outside of the town walls and you have to carry your luggage to the hotel because there are no drivable streets and/or walkways with a flat underground within the old town of Monemvasia (depending on your phisical condition it takes between 5 and 10 minutes from the town wall to the hotel) ... all walkways within the old town consist more or less of historic stones.

Our room was split levels, the inside was carved in the rock, beautiful view over the sea, quiet and secluded. The setting of the hotel is stunning, slightly away from the hustle of Monemvasia which can get very busy and overwhelming. However it is only a couple of minutes walk from the restaurants and bars. Would love to go back!

Very comfortable beds and very charming stone room. The view from our terrace was amazing and the guy at the desk was very pleasant, smiling and helpful. The hotel is at the far end of the town so it's a long walk if you have heavy luggage. I liked the quite location at the edge of town and they light the ramparts side wall at night. View is stunning. I'll try and post my photos

We just sat in the bar outside and ordered a bottle of water (we were exhausted from climbing the fortress under the scorching sun). The lady asked me with hostility if we were going to order only water. When I paid by card (didn't have cash) she turned very aggressive and insulting. Never experienced such a miserable hospitality in this wonderful country.

The breakfast room is on the first floor and there are handrails on the stairs.
The parking is along the road that links the island to the mainland. It's a case of driving along till you find a space, which we didn't find a problem but it is best to drive up to the town gates to drop off your luggage. One of us stayed with the bags while the driver drove back to park.
You then have to carry/roll your cases to the hotel at the end of the island. It takes maybe 5-10 mins, over cobblestones, but it is worth it! Think twice only if you have mobility issues.
