I really like this hotel. I have stayed here in the past and recently crossed my mind to stay there again. There are 2 parts of this hotel which are called Hutnik I and Hutnik II. Both parts are connected with the long corridor. I have stayed in Hutnik II. I was given very large double room with sofa bed, what was great for solo traveler. The allocated room had a fabulous furnished balcony. I have really enjoyed the space and comfort. The room it self was old fashiioned and simple, yet large outdoor balcony is fantastic. Bathroom was large too, yet very old fashioned. There is indoor swimming pool. it is not very large, yet enough. You can not use swimming pool daytime only 8 to 10 am and then 16 to 22 pm. This was rather odd, yet convenient as I have used pool in the morning and in the evening. I was offered half board for very reasonable price. The food was good and plenty, mostly eastern european evening meals with meats and continental style breakfast with some eggs. Overall, very good value for money and fantastic hideaway from busy life The place it self is located above very tiny village Matliare. You need to walk half an hour to nearest large village, where you can find grocery store and restaurants. However if you take half board you wont need much. I have recieved loyalty discount once i have paid my bill. That nice touch, especially when not expected…
We stayed at 3* Hutnik I over New Years Eve. Accommodation and equipment were average. There wasn't no fridge in the room and no wifi (it was available only in lobby at reception and lobby bar). On windows in our room there was mildew. We had gorgeous view to Tatra mountains, esp. to Lomnický štít, but only half of rooms had this view. Food was quite good, average range. The stupidest thing was "system" of ordering drinks during dinner. There were many waiters, but only one coul order a bring you drink. So we had to search for this waiter and sometimes he wasn't there. New Years Eve's programe was good only for children, only live music and that was everything. I expected some kind of social games, karaoke, etc.
We stayed in 2-star part (there is 3-star part which is better) of this hotel for two nights. It was a nightmare. Terrible USSR style rooms, dirt everywhere, no service, food was disgusting, smell of kitchen is everywhere in the hotel. Guests can stay with animals there, I have no problems with this generally, but there was a women with big pit bull sitting on the chair in a hotel lobby, he was barking on guests, she allowed him to walk without dog lead between people!!! Woman on reception said to us that this is OK! That was crazy. Hotel is located approximately 2km from the nearest village, and 500m from the main road. Better to have a car if you're going there. STAY AWAY.
Quite surprised by other reviews here, either a lot has changed in a few months or these people are hard to please! The location is excellent, beautiful views and an easy 20 min walk to the next town, we had a 2 year old with us and she also walked around and explored very happily. Staff might not speak much English, but then this is the high Tatras, what do you expect? They were always helpful and polite to us. Service was efficient and quick without being intrusive or ingratiating. Food is tasty, filling local stuff. Not fancy but very enjoyable and in good portions. Decor is a little tired (we stayed in the cheaper 2* section) but the rooms are warm and comfortable. Good facilities, including pool and bowling. Very happy and I would recommend to anyone who wants a good value stay in stunning scenery.…
The location is not very convenient. You are off the city and you are stuck in hotel. In winter you need to take a ski bus which runs only in the morning and afternoon. If you are with kids then walking around is impossible. Service and staff is very bad. You feel like you are doing them a favor. Food is low quality using cheap ingredients. Staff is old and somehow stuck in communist times. We went for lunch at the restaurant and tge experience was pretty awful. Coffee for breakfast is really bad. Yack.
We were the guests of the 3*** Sorea Hutnik Hotel in Slovakia between December 29th 2012 - January 2nd 2013, travelled as a family and as part of a 23-people group. Accomodation: rooms are nice, clean, warm, the view was great and refreshing (snow, hill). We had no balcony, since the 5th floor has no balconies...The TV set is too small, TV channels are satellite-provided (but mainly Slovak, CNN, a German channel, and that's all, not that one would spend time watching TV, but anyways...). Beds were really confortable. Housekeeping only upon request. You need to have your own shower gel and shampoo, your own hair dryer, etc. The hotel is clearly of the communist style and architecture, but the rooms were refurbished. The hallway carpet is dirty. Bathroom: rather small, but newly refurbished, shower curtain not provided, which meant getting the entire bathroom and all the things there totally wet. The toilet seat is separate from the actual bathroom, which is ok, but there is no sink to wash your hands in.... Meal: Breakfast and dinner included in the trip price. Breakfast: the usual breakfast food, nothing fancy. The tomatoes tasted strangely and were, thus, avoided. Dinner: poor variety of side dishes, shortages were never noticed by the staff, bread always seemed like yesterday's bread. If you like to eat anything other than potatos/rice and meat, you won't find anything there. Extremely poor in desserts. The lunch menu was also in English, but the actual meal would never coincide with what we ordered (e.g. I ordered chicken and vegetables, which was what the menu said in English and I received some canned vegetables plus a few chicken pieces, plus rice plus French fries...."white soup" is actually garlic soup, namely you get garlic and water, "brown soup" was actually bean soup, etc......The waiter was unable to answer our questions about a certain dish because he didn't understand us...). You can only order water , pepsi or coca cola, and that's it for the restaurant variety. They only had white wine.... The food is rather 2** and I am being generous here. Staff: NOBODY speaks English! The reception staff and the restaurant staff only know a few separate words in English, German or Hungarian, it is rather IMPOSSIBLE to communicate with them. NOT WELCOMING at all, they behaved as if they were bothered by the foreign guests. Nobody smiles, but I guess that's just their nature....Ordering lunch was quite an adventure, which is why we gave up on having lunch at the hotel restaurant after the first day. Every time we ordered bottled still water we received soda.... Leisure activities: evenings are rather boring, there is ONE pool table, there are only TWO bowling tracks, one table tennis table, so people would mainly seat around on the ground floor couches and check there phones or having a drink...I heard there was a swimming pool, but the water was cold...Wi-Fi is free, so take your laptop and other gadgets with you... The hotel is NON-SMOKING, and has no smoking space provided anywhere. If a smoker, you will stay outside, in front of the hotel entrance or smoke on your balcony while freezing.... Children: Lots of children in the hotel. The children's play ground is actually a small room, provided with 3 tables and chairs for children to simply seat and draw (which they could do in the hotel room as well), so basically nothing for children to do inside the hotel, except for running the hallways the entire evening or seat on the sofas with their parents and draw or play something. EVERYTHING WAS COMMUNICATED IN SLOVAK!!! All the announcements, all the events, so we had no idea what was going on, at what time and where. New Year's Eve Party: included in the trip price. A glass of juice and a glass of champagne FOR EVERY TWO PERSONS!!!!!!! Champagne bottle provided for the toasts after midnight. Food was ok. They did not prepare any cake or special desserts....just what we had for dinner the previous night. The music was annoying, mostly in Italian, guests were not having too much fun...The host spoke ONLY in Slovak so the rest of us were like " what"??? I won one of the New Year's Eve lotery prices there so I was very happy and forgot all about the bad things:))) Party was over at 1 o'clock, but we had it rocking until almost 4, which led the band to despair:))))) since, I guess, they were only paid to sing (and mostly play the laptop music) until no later than 2'oclock, maybe....) A LOT OF ICE in front of the hotel, walking was dangerous even with winter equipment on, I saw some people falling on the ice in front of the hotel and that was not a pretty sight...... The hotel is ISOLATED from the rest of the skiing resort and slopes, one needs to travel there by car on a daily basis. Slays are not available for rental on the slay-track site so you need to carry your own if you like slaying. SKIING: This skiing resort is extremely generous, lots of skiing tracks and slopes, sights are gorgeous, prices are acceptable, food was great high up at the 1751 m restaurant. SKIING trainers SPEAK ONLY SLOVAK, so if you intend to learn skiing there, forget it.... Sights are amazing, the trip up to the SKALNATE PLESO was something to remember, travelling high up at 1751 m made us feel on the top of the world. Actually I think it looked better because we were there with friends and our purpose was to actually have some fun together... All in all, it was about spending some quality family time and some quality time with our friends, staying out in the snow was great, the children were extremely enthuziastic about it....and so were we...it's just that this IS NOT a place to visit twice...…
We have stayed in the 3*star part of the hotel. The hotel has the communist decor but was clean. The only negative about it were the beds. Only a shelf with a very thin old matress on it. Not very good for backpain patients as you would feel the wood underneath. The balcony's were outdated and did not seem safe to stand or sit upon. Service was ok. People were friendly and helpfull. Prices were extremely low (1euro for a big glass of wine) The location is very remote of Lumnica. That is a reason not to book the hotel if you not by own car. You will have a better stay in a hotel in one of the othe Tatra villages.
I would rate this hotel as between poor and average! I was aware of the "communist decor" before I booked the hotel thanks to the other reviews wrote on here so I wasn't suprised at all to see the shappy interior of this hotel. We booked ourselves into the *** star one and the ** star one was connected to it although we haven't seen any different between these too. As I mention the decor was happy, multicoloured and I really believe nothing has changed here since the communism fell in the Czech Republic in 1989. Apparently it used to be an army rehabilitation centre/spa. The swimming pool look old and again nothing new here at all. Water was at 26 degrees which was quite cold but bearable. The rooms were refurbished as the hotel description stated, not bad actually but we had a room for 2 adults and 1 child on an extra bed. The extra bed was an extension of one of the single beds for an adult and the matress on an extension bed was taken from the main adult bed and the tiny matress from an extension matress was moved on the bed for an adult hence the adult ended up on a really tiny matress and you could feel the wood underneath. This was one of the worst experience of sleeping in any hotel so far. Really bed I must say!!! We had the heating off all the time but it was still very hot in the room so we had to keep opening the windows during the night, also the air was very dry in the room. Bathroom was fine but the bath was very short, you could not straighten your legs in the bath to lay down comfortably after a days of skiing ;-). Water was hot all the time though which was great. The food was quite nice though, traditional Czech/Slovak cousine. We had half-board with a buffet breakfast which was pretty limited to some bread, buns, ham, cheese, porridge if you are lucky, basic cereals, some tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers etc. Nothing special really. For dinner we had to pick one meal from a choice of 5 the day before - dinners were tasty so no complaint here at all. Just to enligthen you on the choice of 5 meals for dinner (beef with sauce and dumplings, chicken skewer with rice and baked potatos, sweet "halusky" Traditional slovak meal - swet pasta, fruit platter, veg and cheese platter etc. There was also a vegetable bar and hot soups available as starters - I must say the soups were delicious. I felt like the first day the waitresses were so keen on servings us and taking orders for drinks but the next days they seemed to dissapear out of our view so at times we had to get up and find them ;-) RECEPTIONISTS - absolutely no customer skills whatsoever! Very communist like service. We wanted to book a table tennis but there wasn't possibility to book it so we had to keep coming to the reception every hour asking if it's available! There is kids entertainment, karaoke, some music performances but we never went to it so I cannot comment on it. Some people wrote that it's close to ski slopes, I would dissagree - you have to have a car to get to the nearest which is about 3km away. The kids lift outside the hotel didn't work, apparently there wasn't enought snow to run it but in my opinion there was for sure. Anyway, make up your own mind but I won't definitely be coming back here.…
