December 2019 during Christmas time we have visited Barcelo with our entire family. Upon arrival we had couple issues with location of the rooms. The resort upgraded our stay to the adults only resort. It is very nice of them but that created an issue because 2 of my sons are not 21. Eventually we all got rooms close to each other in the Beach part. This was an all inclusive stay and I must say food is really nice. The buffet has a large verity of different foods. The restaurants are nice but require reservations and the day we arrived almost everything was already booked out until New Years. We still managed to experience some of the restaurants and food was delicious, service very upscale. The beach was nice, clean and it is constantly cleaned of sea weeds which is an issue in Cancun but not at this resort. They have a large number of sports and activities that people can reserve. My advice is first day go and reserve all you want because couple days later it was difficult due to enormous amount of people booking everything out. By 0800am there were long lines for the activities that are first come first serve so get there early and wait in line if you want your kids to experience the onsite activities. There is a large number of local companies that sell trips and activities at the resort as well but all require traveling to different locations therefore it takes up most of the day for couple hours of fun. Rooms very nice, not perfect but not bad at all. The entire resort is made up of I think 6 different resorts but you have access to all of them. Large number of shops to buy souvenirs. Lesson learned here, what ever price they tell you don’t pay more then 50 percent of that. The stores that belong to the resort are very expensive and you can buy almost everything from the vendors for much lesser price. Identical merchandise. In order to be able to have a spot on the beach or at the pool wake up early, grab some free towels and reserve your spots or you won’t have any recliners to lay in. Overall very nice vacation. Every night there is different shows and they start around 9pm worth seeing.

The Barcelo is very clean and the grounds are lovely. The common areas are well-kept. The buffet is well staffed and the wait staff are attentive. There is easy access to the beach and there are many beach chairs but often people towel them and reserve them early in the day, even though they might never show up to use them. The Barcelo should develop a better system of giving out towels in order to avoid this practice. There are a couple of nice pools and there’s a play area for the kids. If you want the kids to enjoy the pirate ship area or the Playland you have to pay an extra fee for that. As the weather was nice we just stayed on the beach, which pleased everyone in the party. We were a party of seven, including two small children. The other adults in the party did not get to enjoy any adult features of the resort as all of the restaurants and spa services were 100% booked for the 6 days we were there. Many attempts were made to get reservations, which took many hours of time, but none were successful. Guest services needs to be drastically improved as one person in an office with limited hours is responsible for the entire resort, which easily has more than 5000 guests at a time. This leads to long lineups and wait times to make any inquiries, including reservations. I attempted to phone the spa a couple of times but after being on hold for more than 30 minutes abandoned that. Thus, if you’re looking for a nice beach holiday with your family this is a great place to go. If you’re looking for some indulgences as an adults only trip I would not recommend it.

Would recommend upgrading to premium room - this gives you a bigger room with ocean views, jacuzzi tub on balcony, premium drinks, discounts in shops, premium service during check in, access to other resorts next door ... really worth the price. Resort is very nice, very spacious & so many loungers to choose from so people aren’t fighting over them or putting towels on them at 6am! Nice big pools & so many bars and restaurants we were discovering them throughout the week. We would love to return!

Great place, friendly staff. Rooms were good, but if yu want quiet, stay away from main area where sports bar is as performances start at 930 pm and are quite loud at night. Staff at buffet beach are awesome especially Arcangel chan and Maria Mayo! Always waiting on yu with friendly smiles and wonderful coffee, juices,pop and fresh water!Omelettes prepared by Felix Santiago were the best! He made sure I had fresh mushrooms for my omelette! Missed him on his days off😊Thank yu Felix, would come again just for your cooking😍Beahes were so beautiful! Tractor guys were there every morning raking beaches of any seaweed that would roll in at nite. My girlfriend and I were not told to leave our key in holder to leave the lights on in our room. We stayed a week here Dec 13th. We were a group of 11. The rooms were not ready on check in. Then they gave us a beach front room (which is on the 1st floor) We paid for an ocean front and requested high level. That did not happen. The manager Elwardo was the worst. Pretty much he tried to tell me we just have to take that room The 2nd day after noon our new room was still not ready. We can back at 3 and they had forgot abt moving us. No apology for our troubles. They did not have wash clothes avail. They keep telling us soon. This was an issue for all our rooms. The food was ok and the drinks were good. The bar tenders were nice. The room was ok the corner rooms were nice. I did love the breakfast juices. They had a number of fresh juices even beet juice. We were able to take uber down town for some fun. I was abt 15.00 (US) The night life down town was LOTS OF FUN! ..I would never your this hotel brand again.

We chose the premium level for our stay and found that it was exactly as advertised. Staff were consistently helpful and courteous. Our chief complaints were related to the food quality (most buffets were mediocre although the Tropical Buffet was quite good) and the bed mattress was covered with plastic which was noisy when moving during sleep and made it sweaty despite the excellent air conditioning in our room. We only ate at one of the specialty restaurants (Trattoria) and the food did not fail to disappoint, so we cancelled a reservation for another night at another restaurant. So we would recommend that you search out the different buffets to find the ones that meet your taste/quality and don't waste your time with the specialty restaurants. Te quality of the Wi-Fi was very good (even on the beach) and included with the room at the Premium level. The initial set-up was a bit more complicated that it needs to be and it was set to expire prior to our checkout time which required another visit to the registration office, but this was capably corrected by the very courteous staff. We would return to this resort again but would probably choose the Maya Grand section as it was somewhat more conveniently located to the the facilities and activities that we enjoyed.

Service was incredible, everyone was so kind. The resort was BEYOND clean! The food was merely "ok" nothing special. They had many buffets and snack bars but they were often similar food. Getting an al a carte reservation was difficult for us but we were in a group of 6. The rooms were clean but smelled a bit musty. We bough premium level ocean front rooms - they were "ocean front" not to be confused with ocean view because we had no view of the ocean or pools frankly. The premium level $200 resort credits were a scam - waste of money. We were falsely promised on multiple occasions how we could use the credits. We used only $100 worth of credits and still had to pay $90 at checkout - it was so frustrating and such a scam. Not worth your money. Another couple who stayed with us did not get their bottle of alcohol or greeting upon arrival of their room even though they were premium as well. The resort is quite large which may be a negative for some folks, but we did not seem to mind it. There is a bus that runs every 15 minutes. We used AMSTAR for our transportation and they worked flawlessly and were incredible. They also helped us set up two excursions. They were the definition of professional. Overall the trip was fun for everyone who came. If our family were to return again, we would choose a different place because we don't go to places multiple times and because the credits thing left a sour taste in our mouth at the end of the trip.

Hi, my husband and I traveled to the Barcelo to celebrate my birthday, we traveled from 7/26 - 7/31. Once we arrived to the reception area it took them almost 3 hours to get our room ready. Finally after they got the room ready reception staff said they gave us a complementary dinner in one of their restaurants and they said they would send a gift to thw room for the inconvenience, but the gift was never sent to the room. We got the room and as soon you opened the dor the smell of mold was very potent and we could see mold on the ceiling at the room entrance . The bathroom had no hand towels or toiletries from the day we arrived until the day we left. When we asked housekeeping to give us some hand towels their answer was " they don't give us small towels anymore ". No nightime entertainment whatsoever besides the daily night show which was quite average to say the least. The service at the Beach Buffet was horrible and really chaotic where the guests have to chase the waiter to get some water. Our highlight was Joel from the Caribe Buffet who was professional, efficient, always had a smile on his face and made every guest feel at home at all times. This young man is a real assett to the Barcelo and for sure should be promoted to management .

Overall we had a fun time at the resort. Restaurant reservations were quirky but we found every a la carte restaurant more than willing to change our reservation time when we asked.
Beach is amongst the best in Yucatán.
Rooms are small and pretty outdated - we had rooms in both Beach and Caribe.
The paid water park was a complete waste of money. We were there for ten minutes. The slides are super small and so gently sloping that we had to literally crawl down them. I find it odd and in poor taste that the resort feels it appropriate to charge $20/pp for this facility.

Stayed here for 10 days, the hotel staff was decent, the bar staff didn't know how to make simple drinks. Our room was decent but the mini fridge wasn't stocked daily but every 3 days or so, when you call reception for more beer they state 4 per day... what about the 3 days we missed? We had a 1 year old child with us and bottled water was a must it was always provided and very quickly. Payed extra to attend the Brazilian restaurant in the Palace. NoT WORTH the cost!!! Guest services was fantastic they provided a birthday cake for our little one as she turned 1 on resort. My spouse and I did a date night one night and they provided chocolate covered strawberries. I was very impressed with that! Bar ran out of cups several times, there was a hand full of staff members that really made the trip fantastic, Irene over by Rancho Grand pool was wonderful and always had a smile. Buffet was decent always found something to eat. Downside no coffee before 7am unless made in your room, but with a 1 year old thats hard to do at 6am as the machine is loud. I would definitely go back as I think covid played a big role in the downfalls we experienced. The Maya Beach just opened so its new staff not properly trained!

M grandson arrived a day later. We just had to show that he was paid for and showed that he was originally planned to be there on the same day ill something interrupted that plan. He got in with a little effort.
I'm assuming you'd have to bring a stroller and I'd recommend one with the size of whole complex. From the videos I've seen, they seemed like normal size cribs. In one of the videos a 2 year old was sleeping in it. Not by the way, I haven't been but have researching for next year. Please make sure to wipe down any highchairs, cribs, small child related things before use with something to ward of viruses before use. Even if they are clean, it can't hurt. Currently hand, foot, and mouth is going around. You can only do what you can do about it.
