Welcome to Tanna Evergreen Resort & Tours; the one that experienced travelers stay at. Never heard of us? We are the busiest hotel on Tanna; 100% locally owned and well known for its value for money and eco initiatives. The resort operates the largest custom made touring vehicles fleet on the island; with daily 4WD and ATV Quad bikes personal tours to all the top spots. We take over 7,000 guests a year on either the noon, twilight and evening tours to Mt Yasur volcano. The resort is set under the shade of a giant banyan tree and palms with endless ocean views. The location is a snorkeler's paradise with pristine coral reef 50 meters in front of the resort. We take this opportunity to thank the many thousands of people we have had the pleasure of looking after in their discovery of Tanna island. And our local partners Air Taxi and Unity Airlines.

Detailed Reviews
Great communication BEFORE my stay, they offer free airport transport which is great. Their welcome is warm with coconut water, they show you the premises and inform you about the timings.
Unfortunately regards the food they didn't stood up to the standards, as I previously communicated to them that I ate plant-based and they ensured that I would have options, that didn't happen.
The included breakfast wasn't plant-based friendly. My first morning the staff members were kind of confused, there were just fruit out and I asked them if any bread or something more filling was coming out, they couldn't communicate with me so I asked for bread and cheese (that would be charged). Then 20 minutes later they put out bread and beans. My second morning I showed up at the dining room 30 minutes later than the breakfast started and almost nothing left, as they were not refilling.
Besides all that my room was decent and loved their pool.

I was stranded in the resort for three days due to Air Vanuatu canceling flights.
The grounds of the resort look nice, and it is very spacious. The resort is on a small cliff, and the is a constant blow of wind from the ocean. It is mostly welcome in the tropic heat but at evening or night it can get chilly. There is no proper beach in the resort and the shoreline is full of corals and rocks and probably good for snorkeling.
Problems start with buildings. They are somewhat run down and not upto the their task. Roofs are partially covered with plastic, which gives an unprofessional look. Why not replace the straw roofs with material that can stand the test of weather?
Rooms are very basic but clean. I was lodging in two cottages, where the other one had a small table and the other one had nothing expect two beds and a drawer. There are two chairs outside for lounging. My rooms had a mosquito net, but I learned not all have it so be careful you get a room with it if mosquitos are an issue. (there was very few of them thank to the gusts of wind).
Restaurant serves mediocre food at best. Meals don't taste bad but it is seems that the chef does not have a passion towards his/her work. They have reasonable big menu and they had everything available I wanted to taste. They have pizza on menu and the the type depends on what frozen pizza the chef happens to grab from the freezer.
Highlight of the place is the staff. They are very friendly and helpful on all topics. They helped me to call the airline several times to try to find a way to escape the island.

Clean, airy room. Snorkelling below the hotel via a channel in the corals looked dangerous. Quirky garden with a sunset viewing platform. Looked like the hotel was still being (re)constructed. Service was friendly and totally on island time. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss in terms of what food was available and lots of flies. Dinner options were limited but ok. Lots of tours on offer. We booked the private day tour to the vulcano and beyond and it was an unforgettable day. Short walk to adjacent beach with easy access to coral free of charge and we did some amazing snorkelling there. Tanna is a fairly remote island so we appreciated what was on offer given the circumstances and were glad we had all the mod cons but not that removed from the local vibe like in a 5 star resort next door. We hitchhiked into town and bought some local produce. Absolutely stunning island with wonderful people.

This resort has great potential, it has ha lovely view, large grounds and a good pool. However, the service is the slowest I have ever seen in a resort anywhere. It can take up to an hour or more to get a meal and often the kitchen had run out of various goods to make dishes so the menu was much smaller than that shown. Even when we ordered in advance we still had a long wait on food (Although the meals were very good when they came). This was really difficult with two small children. In the end we ate our meals at a newer resort down the road. The majority of guests at Evergreen also ended up doing the same thing. It took over two hours to get our bags to our room and in the end I took the bags down myself. They seem to be understaffed significantly. The tour to the volcano was great, but beware, if you have small children you may want to give this a miss, whilst there are safety protocols I would suggest only taking children 10 or over. However, the volcano is amazing !

The good stuff: Lovely friendly staff. Amazing garden. Quiet rooms. comfortable beds. Close to airport. Clean pool. Big breakfast included. Amazing excursions. Recommend volcano and toka dancing.
The work ons : Food shortages and a large fixed menu meant quite a struggle to find what actually was available. Surely a better system could be developed. Food and trips are expensive. No snorkeling gear for hire or an excursion offered despite being on a reef (tip white grass next door does a trip for 2500vat including gear). Staff seemed very unhappy with management and often it seemed a struggle to get enough to operate. Hot water kept disappearing. At least half our showers were cold. Dodgy pilot light?
Anyhow Tanna is not developed and it’s an adventure just being there. Thank you to everyone at evergreen for their efforts and the experience. Hopefully above feedback will turn it into a 5 star review next time

Outside of the covid period I have stayed several times a year at Tanna Evergreen for at least the past eight years. I have always been satisfied with my stays and the service has always been quite good.
Certainly there have beens some disruptions in the supply chain since covid particularly with Air Vanuatu and food delivery to Tanna. I think both situations will improve as time goes by.
The new internet service is greatly improved over the old one where sometimes you needed to sit near reception to get a connection. 500 Vatu for it is cheap based on the quality difference.
My rooms have always been clean and well maintained. During the warmer months I will opt for a room with air conditioning although it is not often needed.
Tanna is a pretty remote place and not all of our "First World" expectations will be met there. Tanna Evergreen may not be a "Spa Weekend" type of resort but as a place to stay while experiencing Tanna Culture and the volcano it is terrific.
Mike and Stefanie have always been gracious hosts and will be happy to help you.

This hotel is the budget option for the Mount yasir overnight tour. It is fine. The rooms are a decent size even if the single beds are small. The restaurant for dinner dinner gave most of the menu options but what they had was tasty, breakfast was terrible. The staff were completely incompetent. No receptionist at checkout. Had to wait way past my taxi collection time, bar staff took an hour to make a cocktail.

We had impeccable service and the attentive staff made our short stay great experience. We had only one day, and it was booked at short notice, as Air Vanuatu had just resumed service, givimg us the possibility of going. We were picked up at the airport, and installed ourseleves before going to the volcano. We were the only guests, both at the hotel and at the volcano. Tje drive to the volcano was interesting, with several stops. At the volcano thete was plenty of smoke, but when the sun went down, the views were spectacular, with crimson clouds, rumbling, and several lava bursts. Back at the hotel we had a delicious dinner. Next day, our trip to the Blue cave was cancelled at short notice, bur the staff quickly arranged a trip to the Custom village instead, which was great. All in all a fine experience - the room was clean and spacious, the grounds beautiful, the food delicious and the service attentive and with a smile.

I am compelled to share our deeply frustrating experience with Tanna Evergreen Resorts. Despite facing unforeseen circumstances due to the sudden bankruptcy of Air Vanuatu, our appeal for a simple credit towards a future stay—rather than a refund—was bluntly denied. Our request was met with a rigid adherence to cancellation policies that showed no consideration for exceptional circumstances. Not only did this rigid stance disregard the potential of fostering a long-term relationship with frequent visitors like ourselves, but it also overlooked a crucial opportunity to demonstrate customer care and understanding. This experience has significantly tainted our perception of Tanna Evergreen Resorts, and we are left feeling undervalued and dismissed as guests.
