Detailed Reviews
A cozy, unique little hotel with many sewing machines, bikes and a garden cat! Friendly staff, that makes you feel like an olds friend. Tidy rooms. The location is close to the city centre, but in a quiet and nice neighborhood.
Also another thing worth mentioning that they have bees on their roof. And they sell honey from those bees.
Thank you all for a wonderful stay!

We chose Janne because of the strength of prior reviews and because we didn't want to have to worry about parking fees and hassles for our rental car while in Riga. Valdis (owner) and Marija (front desk) were wonderfully warm and helpful and did everything possible to ensure we were comfortable and informed. It would be easy for any guest to drive, take a bus or cab to Old Town from this hotel's location. We did not sample the breakfast thus cannot comment on it. During our stay there was a sudden change in weather which cause a few ants to show themselves on the floor but this was not a problem. In fact, because the hotel exceeded our expectations we chose to stay an extra day at Janne in order to see more of Riga and surrounding areas. We would love to return again to Janne for a future visit and would enjoy hearing Valdis share more stories about his beautiful country.

We booked a double-bedroom for 3 nights, uncomplicated and with a convenient price over booking.com. It was our first time in Riga and Latvia in general, so we didn't know what exactly would expect us.
The welcoming was warm and the personal helpful and very friendly.
The room is suitable for the price and the arrangement of sports-themed decoration absolutely adorable and original. The rooms are in souterrain/basement floor but very quite and with opaque curtains. The bathroom is modern and very neat and clean. The TV program does not include international channels, only latvian/russian, but we visited the city to get to know it and not to watch TV, so no problem at all. :-)
We directly booked for addtional 5€ the breakfast for the next morning, with the time set in adavance as the breakfast room is rather small. The breakfast was rich and diverse, continentally orientated with bread, crossaints, different cold cuts, fresh fruits and vegetables, boiled eggs and sausages, different juices and musli, even for the sweet-food lovers there were different cookies and local pastries.
Between the working hours of 8 - 22h the reception was staffed with english-speaking, very kind personal, in the night the security guard lets guests in, with sign language communication is absolutely sufficient.
The accessibility to the city is very easy, by tram (~10min ride) with a 5 minute walk to the stop (Agenskalns tirgus) or different busses in various directions (public transport tickets are quite cheap, for three days Zone A only 10€). Taxis are affordable as well (5€ to the airport e.g.).
All in all we had a wonderful time in Riga and Hotel Janne with its original atmosphere and courteous personal contributed significantly to it. :-)

Dear Chrissi, Thank you for such a profound review, first we thought you've written a poem, and this seemed to be true :) We are glad, you loved Room N8, it is quiet and really special, as you said. We loved to have you as our guests and hope to see you in future - you must see the Carpenter's room or take a quest in the Deluxe Room. Best greetings from Riga!

The hotel required no prepayment and free cancelation till one night before the booking time.
After I booked the hotel, they asked for 20% prepayment for my booking. And said it is not refundable and you have to cancel your reservation or Pay!
I have booked this property because it didn't require prepayment because my visa process takes time and there is a chance of visa rejection! Now I have go through all the process of my visa in Latvian embassy again.
It is not right to do this to your customers.

Dear Mohsen, Thank you for reviewing our hotel despite the poor experience you have encountered, and we are really sorry that your expectations were not met. As we discussed via email, a long-term reservation at our hotel (contrary to a short term one) requires a pre-payment deposit, which usually would be 20% of the whole charge. We always inform our long-term guests about this policy before approving their reservation, and this is one of our policies, that is not stated by booking.com, because it mostly used for short term stays. It must be made to ensure the reservation from our side and arrival from side of our long-term- stay guests. Gladly, you were informed about this due time and chose to cancel your reservation without having to pay anything. About the act of making a long-term reservation and then cancelling it- such use of our services could also potentially bring great losses in form of lost clients, who would actually use our apartments and services, but could not purchase a room due to it's unavailability. I hope this clarified this situation for you, and, please, feel free to contact us via email, if there's is yet something on your mind. We would be glad to help you and answer to any of your questions!

The Janne Hotel provides good, basic accommodations. Our room was clean but somewhat small with no distinguishing features. The hotel is located across the river from Old Town, but a trolley stop is located directly across the street from the hotel which gets you quickly to the center of Riga. If you are looking for a good hotel at a very good price, the Janne Hotel is a fine choice.

Absolutely no regrets regarding picking up this hotel. Overall design and those tiny little elements of design are awesome.
It's quite, stylish, cozy, homelike. Room is quite spaceful, we got everything we needed. Service is attentive and unostentatious.Stuff was friendly and polite.
I advice you to take a breakfast buffet, since it's a good value for money.
It may be a bit far from city centre, but considering taxi cost which was like 3 euros, I think it's not a problem. I'd say taxi is same price as public transport, besides taxi may be kindly offered at the hotel reception.
Thanks a lot to Janne Hotel, wishing you prosperity & keeping ur authentity!

I gave the Hotel Janne a Very Good rating, as Tripadvisor doesn't give us a Good option. I wouldn't say it's VERY good, but it's certainly better than average and definitely good value for money.
Location wise, the Hotel Janne is a decent place to dwell in Riga, unless you want to be right in the heart of the city. We stayed for 5 nights and found the location extremely convenient for our various day trips, without having to navigate through the traffic-rich city centre.
The trolley bus stops right in front of the hotel, but be aware that the last bus leaves the city before midnight, so if you want a night on the town, don't buy a return ticket, take a taxi back instead.
We had a basement room, which was big and clean - somewhat on the dark side but as we weren't hanging around during the day, this wasn't an issue. Judging from the (professional) website photographs, I gather there are lighter and airier rooms available. We were also overpowered by a very strong air-freshener odour when we arrived.
The bathroom wasn't great - quite small and the shower was a little smelly and even attracted ants. I'm from Africa, so ants are one of the least threatening animals to encounter in the shower, but some people may not want them there. Being a practical person, I moved the air-freshener block into the bathroom and killed two birds (but no ants) with one stone.
The hotel staff is fantastic, very helpful and friendly. Parking was never a problem and the neighbourhood is quiet and safe with supermarkets, restaurants and pubs in walking distance.
Riga itself is wonderful and I hope to return one day.

I stayed in this hotel for two weeks over the period of the summer solstice, which is a very festive time in Riga and Latvia in general. I used this hotel as my base for leisure as well as business. The room that I stayed in was incredibly homely as Valdis has captured the essence of wooden building and what makes them quintessentially Latvian.
As a Latvian ex-pat coming back to Riga is always a pleasant experience, but this time, it was enhanced by careful attention to the detail with nostalgic objects that transported me back to my childhood.

Hi,
Did you tell this to the hotel personally?
The feedback there where you are is the best - they can react immediately and put things right.
My stay at the Hotel Janne was ok and didnt have this experience in my toalet.
Yes, it's possible to order the airport shuttle from the Airport (15 euros).
If directly to this hotel it is better to take a taxi. After 15-20.min. trip you be in hotel.
Opposite the hotel is a trolley stop, it goes to the center. Nearby is the tram, bus, they will more quickly going to center. The best way to Old Town is tram you cross the bridge and be in the center. You can also take a taxi, trip ~7.min and will pay ~ 6-10 eur.
Noris
Dear Michael,
The transfer from Riga airport to Hotel Janne costs 15 EUR.
Do you have some other questions?
Kind regards,
