My room was very small and had 4 steps from the level of entrance and minuscule bathroom down to the bed area. There you have a space of 30 cm from each side of the bed and 50 cm from the bottom of the bed to the desk. The combination of steps and tiny bed area is horrible for comfort and space. I do not think that such rooms should exist in a 4* hotel. But not all were of this type apparently. The reception gave the idea that they were doing you a favour to check you in and the service was average as was the breakfast. On the positive side the location is just on the edge of the old town and you can walk to all the suggested interested points.

The location is perfect. The bus 22 from and to the airport has a bus stop literally almost on the hotel's floor step.
It is a nice walking distance from the railways station, the city centre etc.
I'm pretty sure that there are many other 4 star hotels in the range - I chose this because of the location + this atrium of the hotel looked so beautiful.
The breakfast was average but ok. Huge thanks to the lactose free milk! (Almond and soya milk consist of allergens).

We stayed 5 nights at Avalon while visiting on business. Arrived rather early (11am) but they didn’t have any rooms ready, very promptly offered to keep our luggage in storage until rooms were ready. We were given one room at 3 and one at half past 3, both rooms were upgraded. Comfortable bed and the room was well lit. Shower was great with hot water. The lobby bar was a nice area to relax and have a hot coconut chocolate! Great great food at the restaurant and all very reasonably priced. We never had to step out for dinner as the food was that good. Will definitely be back when visiting again.

My recent stay at this hotel was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a rude receptionist who seemed disinterested in providing any form of hospitality. Sadly, the unpleasant encounter with the receptionist was just the beginning of a series of disappointments during our stay.

Despite paying for a room suitable for four persons, we were assigned a double room with only sofa chairs as extra bedding. It was clear that the room was not designed or equipped to accommodate four individuals comfortably. The lack of proper beds and insufficient space made it impossible for all of us to rest properly. It was an unacceptable oversight on the part of the hotel to charge us for a room that clearly did not meet our basic needs.

Furthermore, the receptionist's dismissive attitude when we raised our concerns about the room was disheartening. Instead of offering a solution or showing any concern for our comfort, they simply brushed us off with indifference. Their lack of professionalism and customer service skills was evident throughout our interactions, leaving us feeling undervalued and disrespected as paying guests.

The overall condition of the room was also disappointing. The cleanliness was subpar, and there were signs of neglect and poor maintenance. Stains on the furniture and a general lack of attention to detail further contributed to our dissatisfaction.

It is essential for hotels to prioritize guest satisfaction and ensure that the rooms provided meet the advertised standards. In this case, we were not only given an inadequate room but also subjected to unprofessional and disrespectful treatment by the receptionist.

I strongly advise potential guests to think twice before booking a stay at this hotel. The rude receptionist and the false representation of room accommodations for four persons make it an establishment to avoid. Invest your money and time elsewhere, where you can receive the service and accommodations you deserve.

Recently stayed here for a 3 day sightseeing trip to Riga.
Firstly the location. The hotel is situated on the main road opposite the Riga Central Market. Number 22 bus from airport stops by market, the stop is named Autoosta. A short trip through underpass will bring you out almost next to the hotel. Bus for return trip to airport stops right outside the hotel. Just remember when you get on bus, validate your ticket by tapping it on the tap and go points on the bus.

The staff in the hotel, I found to be both polite and helpful. Receptionist allowed me to book in an hour early, and provided me with a free room upgrade. The guys serving at the bar were really friendly and chatty.

The room itself was your normal typical hotel room. Everything was clean, tidy and presentable. Tea and coffee facilities were provided. Maid service and standard were good. The usual bathroom toiletries were evident and replaced daily.

Only ate in the restaurant at breakfast time. The selection was was good. There was the usual English, continental, and local breakfast items available.
I'm not sure if dinner is available in the evenings, I ate out at a nearby restaurant. There is however a selection of warm bar snacks available.

Location I found to be ideal.. The central market was just across the road. A lot of the local sites of interest, bars and restaurants were within a few minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel is ideally situated for transport, the buses and trams stop right outside the front entrance.

Just back from 4 nights at this hotel in Riga with a large group. The rooms were well equipped and always clean. Rooms overlooking the market and main road were really sound proofed - very little traffic noise. Breakfast had all you could want, hot and cold. There is not a large lounge and the comfy seats are near the bar, but this was no problem. We found all the staff very helpful and accommodating. Daniel in particular was very helpful to us. Riga is not the best place for wheelchair users but the hotel was no problem for our one disabled lady. We finished our stay with a five course meal in the banqueting room and it was an excellent end to an enjoyable stay in Riga.

Lovely comfortable stay for 3 nights. The hotel was quiet so they upgraded our room for free to superior.

Breakfast is fantastic- never had so much variety before, even on all inclusive holidays. Fresh fruit, meats, full English selection, cakes, cheese etc.

Great few nights away.

The hotel is also very central and 5 mins walking distance from all bars and restaurants.

My wife and I have been to this hotel 15 times I think and never, ever, been disappointed with the service received and the price is usually good. Staff all speak excellent English and nothing is too much trouble for them. When we have got back from the opera late say and asked for something to eat it was always delivered with a smile. and nothing was too much trouble. We have been to some expensive so called 5 star hotels in Venice which can't hold a candle to the Avalon Hotel and the service was terrible in these 5 star hotels with the staff sometimes looking at you as if you had the plague! The Avalon overlooks the famous Riga Markets and is a must go too. The hotel is well placed for just about any where in Riga. Try the Black Balsam if you dare and if you want a decent beer then go for Metzpils. The latter is better than anything I have tasted in England ! Although this is a 3 star hotel it deserves a higher rating in my opinion. Riga itself is an undiscovered gem with the Avalon adding to this appeal. Although we hadn't been back since before the pandemic, when we returned it was like we hadn't been away !
Try the Metzpils lager followed by the Black Balsalm

I stayed here on my own, and felt very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was lovely. The staff are really friendly, and I will speak very good English. The hotel was within easy walking distance to everything in the city, so I didn’t need to use public transport. I would not hesitate to stay here again, or recommend the hotel to friends. The room itself felt modern and relaxing, and was very spacious. They also had lovely views in the evening. I really enjoyed my stay here.

We stayed for 4 nights. Lovely hotel, very modern, spacious and spotless. The room was a good size with an excellent bathroom. Everything seemed new and the mini bar was very reasonable. Our room was on the front facing the railway and Zeppelin Hangers (The Market) but it was very well soundproofed.
The staff in the bar were excellent as were the front desk staff. Highly recommended and we will stay there again on our next visit. If you need a taxi for the airport just ask them and it’s sorted.
