We stayed for 4 nights. Lovely hotel, very modern, spacious and spotless. The room was a good size with an excellent bathroom. Everything seemed new and the mini bar was very reasonable. Our room was on the front facing the railway and Zeppelin Hangers (The Market) but it was very well soundproofed. The staff in the bar were excellent as were the front desk staff. Highly recommended and we will stay there again on our next visit. If you need a taxi for the airport just ask them and it’s sorted.
The location is perfect. The bus 22 from and to the airport has a bus stop literally almost on the hotel's floor step. It is a nice walking distance from the railways station, the city centre etc. I'm pretty sure that there are many other 4 star hotels in the range - I chose this because of the location + this atrium of the hotel looked so beautiful. The breakfast was average but ok. Huge thanks to the lactose free milk! (Almond and soya milk consist of allergens).
Situated alongside the railway not far from the Central Railway Station of Riga, Riga’s bus station and Riga’s Central Food Market. New, fresh and nice building with a huge inner yard where a reception, a bar and a restaurant (working only for a breakfast as I noticed) situated. If you choose upper floors sound isolation is enough to not hear a tone from a huge drunken company of Iceland travellers celebrating someone’s birthday after midnight (two hours time difference). Good bed, good linen, enough space in the room. Good bath with bathtub and integrated shower. Very helpful and welcoming staff. The only problem: if you have front side room you will straggle from a railway sounds (trains, announcements), if you have rear room the view would be directly to a construction site. But the rest is excellent!…
Nice hotel, helpful staff, firm and comfortable mattresses, good location for the old town and quick links to the airport. Good bar with cheap cocktails. Quiet rooms with good facilities. Would stay there again.
I have stayed at the Avalon dozens of times over the past 12/13 years. Had 2 bookings with them scheduled for September 2021. Without explanation, I received a cancellation notification that both of my trips were now cancelled and no payment would be taken?! As a loyal and repeat customer, I wrote to them and asked for an explanation asking if they were perhaps undertaking essential maintenance. I have not heard back. My guestimation is that they are overbooking to try and reclaim losses of covid-19. Whereas I can understand this, you'd expect to receive a response to enquiries and for repeat and loyal customers, it goes to show that they have lost the professionalism in maintaining loyalty and chasing the Euro in the short term. Very short sighted. Having spent, thousands and thousands of Euros at this hotel venue, I shall not return. I'D REACH OUT TO POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS AND WARN YOU OF THIS RISK. I DIDN'T EXPECT THIS HOTEL TO ACT THIS WAY, BUT THEY HAVE. There are great 4 star hotels in the old town and new town, so don't worry about booking elsewhere. They clearly are too unpredictable at present.…
I stayed here on my own, and felt very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was lovely. The staff are really friendly, and I will speak very good English. The hotel was within easy walking distance to everything in the city, so I didn’t need to use public transport. I would not hesitate to stay here again, or recommend the hotel to friends. The room itself felt modern and relaxing, and was very spacious. They also had lovely views in the evening. I really enjoyed my stay here.
We stayed 5 nights at Avalon while visiting on business. Arrived rather early (11am) but they didn’t have any rooms ready, very promptly offered to keep our luggage in storage until rooms were ready. We were given one room at 3 and one at half past 3, both rooms were upgraded. Comfortable bed and the room was well lit. Shower was great with hot water. The lobby bar was a nice area to relax and have a hot coconut chocolate! Great great food at the restaurant and all very reasonably priced. We never had to step out for dinner as the food was that good. Will definitely be back when visiting again.
My room was very small and had 4 steps from the level of entrance and minuscule bathroom down to the bed area. There you have a space of 30 cm from each side of the bed and 50 cm from the bottom of the bed to the desk. The combination of steps and tiny bed area is horrible for comfort and space. I do not think that such rooms should exist in a 4* hotel. But not all were of this type apparently. The reception gave the idea that they were doing you a favour to check you in and the service was average as was the breakfast. On the positive side the location is just on the edge of the old town and you can walk to all the suggested interested points.
This hotel works well for both - short or long term stay. I have been stopping at Avalon every once in a while for the past ten or so years. I love that they keep the property fresh and updated, nothing looks old or worn. The location is ideal - you have the coach station, train station and the old town a short walking distance away. The rooms are clean and spacious, bathroom and shower are great. Staff is very helpful and friendly. I wouldn't call the breakfast mega-amazing but you can get a solid meal with a decent selection of tasty stuff. To me, with every hotel, the question is - would I like to stay there again? And with Avalon, the answer is yes. When in Riga, Avalon was and will be my first choice. Fantastic value for money.
Lovely comfortable stay for 3 nights. The hotel was quiet so they upgraded our room for free to superior. Breakfast is fantastic- never had so much variety before, even on all inclusive holidays. Fresh fruit, meats, full English selection, cakes, cheese etc. Great few nights away. The hotel is also very central and 5 mins walking distance from all bars and restaurants.
