Quite competent hotel in a very competitive town area, good value for money. Great staff, but too much faceless rooms. Breakfast is ok, still some products quality could be better. Coffee isn't good at all. One of main reason to stay there - Draugi is one of a very few hotels in Riga's Old Town having private parking (and car parking is a problem in this part of town). Still 6-7 parking places is not enough for 72-rooms hotel, so you need to be fast to get the parking place in private parking there. Some rooms are placed close to vibrant night clubs so are noisy at night.
Fabulous location in the middle of the old town. Within walking distance of many of the sites and museums. Our room was big and comfortable (beds were amazing! We slept so well) with high ceilings and huge windows. We could slightly hear the bars at night, but not enough to stop any of us sleeping (family of 4) and what would you expect when staying at the centre of a capital city! The breakfast was superb, everything was on offer from cereal to hams and cheeses to pancakes to bacon and eggs and much much more. The staff were impeccable, polite and very helpful. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel to anyone.
We often try to get away between the busy Christmas-New Year festivals, this was no exception. We arrived by foot after catching the local bus, which is really easy (buy your ticket in the little Narvestan shop before boarding, cheaper and the assistant speaks very good English). The hotel is easy to find and we had a warm welcome on arrival. We were a good couple of hours early but luckily our room was ready which was really nice. We had a room on the 5th floor and as I had asked for a quiet room was on the back side of the hotel and yes it was quiet. The bed was a good size and comfy, there was a desk which had tea & coffee plus a mini bar which I always even if just use to chill my water. We had a big tv (didn’t turn it on as we were so busy) an air-con unit which we did use as the radiator worked very efficiently, warming the room until it was too hot even after turning it down. Also plenty of storage and a small safe for valuables (ask for the key at reception). The well decorated bath room was as big as you need with toiletries, a hairdryer, plenty of towels and a nice sized shower cubicle. The first morning arriving for breakfast we found that there were just enough tables and chairs for the people who were there at the similar time. This maybe due to it being the festive season it did seem there were limited staff in the resturant these guys were trying to refill the food and beverages which meant the tables were not getting cleared very quickly. It was not a drama for us Brits but there were some others that were grumbling at having to do things themselves! The breakfast choice for someone who only eats chicken or fish was a little limited, however when you go to another country you cannot expect ‘full English’! I found breads, cheese, and few tiny pastries...if there were any left! What I did enjoy and this is where trying other countries cuisine is worth while, (you never know what you might like) the herring in beetroot and also curried were both absolutely delicious and I am so glad I got to try them in Riga. The second breakfast we arrived a little later again the staff were all busy refilling stock so again the tables were not being cleared quickly. As the resturant is pretty small we were lucky that there were people finishing breakfast, so we didn’t have to wait long for a place to sit.I can imagine this may become an issue if the hotel gets fully booked and I don’t know if they would then find more seating or a bigger area. All told this is a lovely hotel with helpful and friendly staff It has all you could need for a short break in Riga and is most defiantly close to the centre of town. There is also a wonderful Belgium bar/pub vertically opposite the hotel, which has a great group of staff, cosy feel, lovely atmosphere, tasty food, great choice of beers and is full of locals!…
Easy to get to from the airport on a local bus (ask Reception for details). Decent rooms, very clean and plenty of space for bags etc. Fairly basic breakfast, good for meat eaters but not for vegan/vegetarian. Nice restaurant with local dishes. Riga is a good walking city and east to navigate. Plenty of dining and bar options nearby.
My hotel stay was very pleasant. The reception was very nice, quick check in. They checked me in early as well. The hotel is very close to all the attractions in Riga. Couple of minutes walk to all the restaurants and bars but the I couldn't hear any noise. The breakfast was very good. Good spread of food. The net was good speed as well. The room had reasonable space for a solo traveller. Overall, very good stay I would recommend staying here if you visit Riga.
