Rather spacious, tastefully decorated rooms with amenities such as a kettle and tea/instant coffee. The bathroom actually had enough space for toiletries etc, unlike in other hotels where you often don't know where to put your stuff. Comfy bed!
The view out of the window was not that picturesque as we just saw the backyard (but ok, who books a hotel to look out of the window, we were out sightseeing all day anyway, so we didn't mind).
Our room was very quiet as it didn't face the street, but there are some bars next door, so I guess it can get loud at weekends if you have a room that faces the street as some have suggested here. It might be a good idea to request a back room when booking (we had a back room and stayed at the weekend and heard no noise at all).
For breakfast there was a great variety of sausages, toast, pancakes, croissants etc, but no cereals. The coffee could have been better.
We enjoyed our stay there and can definitely recommend it!
We noticed we didn't have a tv in our room. I fon't come to Riga to watch tv, but when sharing a room with ensuite, it's always good to be able to turn the sound up. We asked for a new room with tv. We were told no room was available. We aked for a partial refund. Another room then became available. Once in the new room with additional heater we were set.
Breakfast was good and once our room issues were sorted, the staff were good too

There is a lounge area in this hotel, which is very characterful and pleasant to sit in. At night, though, the staff member on duty sits in here too (or sleeps on the settee) which makes it a little less comfortable.
All daytime desk staff were very helpful and friendly and offered advice as well as enquiring after our days out.Great ambassadors for front-of-house!
There is a strong sewerage smell in the lobby toilet and this needs looking into as it can also be smelt in the lift shaft.
A positive is the varied and fresh breakfast each morning. A great range of foods and a chance to try some traditional dishes as well as have familiar tastes.
The location of this hotel is extremely handy for walking around the Old Town, which is quite compact and it is possible to walk to most places of interest. The public transport, should you wish to use it, is on the outer side of the Old Town and there is a number 22 bus that takes about 20 mins to get to/from the airport doors. Riga is safe to walk at night and the streets are some of the cleanest we've seen.We booked a Riga tour to Lithuania (the Hill of Crosses) and to see the Rundale Palace and Bauska Castle. Highly recommend this trip.
We read other reviews about noise at night from the nearby nightclub but experienced no real noise between 10-midnight. Maybe this was because we were on the 4th floor or maybe it is out of season at present? We slept well though....

Good breakfast in the basement. Nice staff everywhere. Can speak good English.

The breakfast was delicious too!
Room 17, very clean, good housekeeping.
Now the negatives.
Having read previous reviews we are wondering where some of these people have stayed in the past.
Our experience in this hotel was nothing like they have reviewed.
Reception hit and miss. One girl was very pleasant and helpful but the other one was the opposite. Surly and ignorant, boardering on rude.
The room was adequate. Long, narrow, dim and a wooden bedframe, that you constantly bang in to (without being under the influence of vodka)
Breakfast was adequate.
Over the past 40 years we have stayed in many top, 5* hotels, all over the world.
We have fallen too many times for this word boutique.
Really these are only 2* in the Far East.
We are not naïve. We know about Riga's reputation for Stag and Hen parties etc.
This is why we chose to visit mid week.
Tuesday and Wednesday night fine, THEN it started.
Thursday/Friday morning pub opposite early close 4am.
Friday/Saturday morning, just to surprise us it was 6am before the noise ceased.
Boy do we mean noise.
Looking back we had 3 clues to this 1. 3 sets of double glazed windows. 2. breakfast at weekend available until 11am. 3. last, but definitely not least, they provide you with his and her's earplugs (which incidentally do not work).
We would like to add that the customers in the pubs (there are at least 4 in the short street) were locals. Heaven forbid what it is like in summer.
Some people reading this will probably think we are moaning old farts.
But we are very experienced travellers and we can assure you we have never experienced anything as bad as this.
PS Just for good luck we think the lift comes from out of the sewage because it stinks.
This is not a professional hotel. The staff is poorly trained and managed. I would absolutely never return.
"Most shops and places of interest don't open before 10am. Use the bus from the airport - it takes you almost to the door of the hotel. "Read full review
