please take some time to read this. Everything is 100% true. We booked one of the suites through Booking.com all looked good. On arrival I was asked to pay cash as the card machine was not working (which I stupidly did). We went up to our room which was very dated but we thought ok two nights we’ll put up with it. My good lady went for a shower after our travels which is when our issues started. The smell was horrendous so I went to reception to see what they could do. I was told it would be sorted out. We went for dinner and returned to be told it was all repaired, which it certainly was not! Someone had been into the room and sprayed air freshener and that was it! So back to reception where I was told it would be best if I stayed somewhere else!!! I thought it was a joke! But no there was no offer of another room so I needed to find somewhere else to stay. At this point I was told that the banking for the day had been done and I would have to come back tomorrow for a full refund, I was not happy but I eventually agreed. The following day it was a different member of staff and a different story. I was told I needed to leave my bank details and the money would be put into my account in the next two days. Luckily enough we were in Latvia for a week so after a long stand off and numerous promises again I reluctantly agreed. We returned to the capital three days later and still no money so back to the hotel to be fobbed off some more. I asked to see a manager on every visit but no one was ever available to see me. To cut a very long story short I visited the hotel at least six times over the next three days to be told that there was no manager or manageress to speak to me. I was asked to leave on two occasions and I asked them to call security or the police I did mind which they did neither. Eventually my good lady who is Latvian said we should leave as we were getting nowhere which again reluctantly I did. So we thought we would speak to Booking.com to see if they could help mediate between us. Initially they we reasonably helpful and said they would speak to the hotel which I think they did. Only to be told that I needed to have proof we were offered a full refund by the hotel. And there was nothing they could or were willing to do. Again I asked for any of the mangers/manageresses details again no help. I have since emailed the hotel from different addresses trying to get a name of someone I could speak to again no joy so it looks like the big company’s win. Nowhere else to turn to. Please please please do not get ripped of by either The Royal Square hotel or Booking.com they are both crooks shame on you both!!…
Hotel have 5 stars, but I don't know why. We had business class room with one big bed, but the bed was with two separate pads and two bedsheets. TV not connected very good. Safe box not works. Room wasn't clean as it must be. Breakfast a little bit poor. Staff friendly and speak in english, location very good.
Overall service experience was very poor. The guy at reception didnt know what to do at all, so immediately started to call for help. Couldnt figure out that we booked 3 rooms, finally we stayed in lobby for 45 minutes to get our rooms and there were no other guests. The entrance and the lobby are very uninviting - dark, as you dont know whether this hotel is open or not. There were almost no other guests except us, just 4 people at the breakfest. No lobby bar :(. If your room opens to the street its very loud as people have parties around. The room was ok though, breakfest was also good. Just this overall atmosphere was not pleasant somehow.
Good location central to Riga Old Town and beds were comfy but the hotel is definitely not 5 star. The rooms are more 3-4 star standard, the reception is dark and uninviting and the noise from the streets can get quite loud in the early hours of the morning. All in all a good stay but not true to rating.
Location is perfect and clean rooms, but all the rest doesn't work at all. No personell available giving keys to wrong room, heating does not work. Restaurants closed etc. If you come by car they ask 25€ cash for parking.
