Nestled in the historic old town, Hotel Gutenbergs is frequently commended for its excellent location and quiet yet central setting. The hotel's unique charm and historic character are highlights for many guests, though a few have remarked on the need for updates in decor and maintenance. While the staff's friendliness and attentiveness are often acknowledged, some travelers have experienced lapses in room service.
The rooftop dining and modern bathrooms are popular amenities, but guests have called out issues with water pressure and breakfast variety. Despite occasional comments on high incidental fees, the hotel is generally considered to offer good value for its comfortable accommodations and cleanliness.

Detailed Reviews
Needed to make a booking for a group of people and get an advanced invoice - made it in 3min.via phone. Couldn't be more grateful for such prompt and most importantly kind work of staff.
The location is great for "old town" lovers, rooms are neat, hotel areas filled with various vintage accents create a lovely atmosphere.

Hotel Gutenbergs is located in a perfect part of the old town and just around the corner from Cathedral and restaurants and bars.
The walls in my 400 year old plus room were near a meter thick and kept the temperature evenly even though the outside ranged from 15 to 33 degrees Centigrade (double it and add 30 if you are American).
The room was furnished in a traditional style probably 18th century and the bathroom had an excellent pressured shower. Very comfortable and even the floor and ceiling sloped downwards to reflect this historic part of the hotel.
Reception was from a bygone era, where you had a relationship with the front office team, keys were collected and dropped off as you left the building, called by name and made to feel the most honoured guest in the hotel.
Leus, who was traditionally on the desk was an example of how the world of travel used to be. I cannot thank him enough for his kindness, care, civility and manners.
Breakfast was fine and all you needed to start the day in a beautiful town.
The only negative was not of the hotel's making. The sub-woofer from the bar up the road penetrated the hotel and even the cathedral. Very selfish and it appears they do not follow noise pollution regulations.

We stayed in a regular room but ir had 4,5 high ceiling, so we had air enough to breathe. The weather was extra hot these days but as the air conditioner worked extra well, we could enjoy every minute inside. The bathroom was very large, provided with a sofa to sit on when undressing. A nice set of lamps made the room atmosphere cosy and romantic.

Gutenbergs owes it's name to the building, a former mediaeval printing office. Today it is a conveniently located hotel next to the city centre. The rooms and floors reflect some of the history but have all modern installations (fast wifi, safe in the room, flatscreen tv...). There is a famliar atmosphere ?some 36 room, this is not a "big chain".
The hotel was very well run, the staff very friendly, open and helpful. The rooftop restaurant was unfortunately blocked that night by a greater festivity, but we got very useful recommendations for nearby restaurants (as there are a lot of "false pretenders" in the city, just feeding tourists without caring about quality). Very recommendable restaurant nearby: melnais ķiploks (which translates to "black garlic", but don't be afraid: normally spiced food there :-) There were minor deficits in the hotel, e.g. the heater for bacon and eggs not working at breakfast, so these were nearly cold, but we didn't count that, mostly due to the extremely caring maître d'hotel (receptionist). Wonderful ! He greeted all guests in their respective mother language, always asked about any further wishes, hurried around even late to get us a glass of beer and a red wine and some snacks... Five star rating well deserved !

Levs on the front desk was so helpful ringing around clinics until he found the best price for our COVID test before flying home, arranged the taxi, complained to the taxi firm when we were overcharged and got the taxi firm to provide a free ride to the airport as compensation. I have a neck complaint so Levs immediately arranged for a flatter pillow. Our room was very quirky, full of character but Levs would have easily moved us if we hadn't been happy. Breakfast was lovely. My only slight gripe would be the loud air-con unit but as we hardly had it on this wasn't an issue for us. I would definitely come back to this hotel!!!

Response from Hotel Gutenbergs, Owner at Hotel Gutenbergs
Responded Dec 4, 2022
Dear Madam Virpi, Greetings and Thank you for choosing the Gutenbergs Hotel for your stay. On behalf of the Gutenbergs Hotel's Staff, We sincerely apologize for the discomfort that took place during breakfast this morning. Discipline measures will be taken so that our breakfast waiters would work more effective and faster so that more guests could enjoy nice and tasty breakfast in the morning without much of waiting. With your kind permission, only one slightest correction, madam - breakfast is being served from 8 to 11 AM, not from 7 AM. Speaking about the atmosphere, with all due respect, but you have booked a room in Old style in the first place, even though there were available modern interior Junior Suites at that time as well. Nonetheless, even with a possibility to change the room free of charge, you have remained at more Old fashioned room. We are always happy to be of help to our guests and will try to find solutions to most of the troubles during the guests stay - only ask us and it shall be done, Madam. Always at your service and till next time at our lovely Hotel! Sincerely and good health willing, Levs Gutenbergs Hotel's Reception +371 67 814 090 Mūku iela 6, Rīga, LV-1050, Latvija

Very good location for visiting Old Town Riga as you walk out the door and are 100meters from a large square with restaurants and bars. Since it is just tucked away on a side street it is quiet to sleep. The breakfast buffet was very good and changed a bit most days over the five days I was there. Seemed popular with the business crowd too and service was good in the basement breakfast room. I had a car and the valet parking worked pretty well, if you gave them about 15-20 minute notice at the first floor desk.

My wife and I went to Riga for my birthday and we found the Hotel Gutenbergs on Booking.com. We called them to check availability and Levs answered the phone, and his profession and customer-service oriented demeanor became the foundation for our trip. He was incredibly polite and a true professional (something that is becoming more and more rare today). The building is an 18th century previous German printing house located about 100m from the Riga Dome, so location and environment are beyond exceptional. The breakfast was stellar, and the restaurant on the 5th floor was extremely nice. I cannot say enough good about the staff and their care for the guests. The hotel was completely booked, and Levs and Ilese treated every customer personally and professionally--and intentionally! What other location can you find staff that are history and art majors from their studies that share their passion for this historic city? 5 out of 5 does not accurately reflect this place, and this is now my "go to" place for future trips to Riga.

We are in one of the small (cheap) rooms, no grand wooden beams for us but it's perfectly adequate. The breakfast buffet consisted of a selection of cold meat, cheese and fish as well as hot bacon and scrambled egg.
Situated in the middle of the old town the main places of interest are within easy walking distance. There is also a varied selection restaurants nearby. Very good value for money.

We stayed here for three nights and would say this is an excellent choice for accommodation situated in the Old Town so it accessible to main sites. Service is exemplary with special mention to LEVS at the reception who went beyond just handing you the room key; and equally to the rest of the staff. Breakfast has good options though we're not into traditional food. Our room was cleaned daily. The only thing and little thing to reconsider is the room key or the door is hard to manipulate to open.

7:30 to 10:30. When you book, check about a package that includes breakfast. Otherwise it's 12 euros. It is a FABulous place to stay!
Yes, the Rooftop restaurant is opened all year round, there is fireplace, heating, blankets, etc if needed. Best regards, sandis solims
Sorry I do not know as I stayed mid December. You could email the hotel as they were very helpful during my stay.
Sorry it took so long. We don't have our own parking. The closest safe parking costs Eur 18.00/ 24 h. On the street it will be Eur 2,50/ h.
There is street parking which, depending on the time of year (like summer), might be more of a challenge to find than at others. But the hotel is worth it. Just lovely.
