Detailed Reviews
Decent hotel on excellent location. Nothing more. Nothing less. Nice breakfast on top floor with good choices. Rooms are clean but dull. But then. It is a common hotel for common people. Nothing wrong. Nothing right, but breakfast.

Excellent location at the top of Kalku Iela, just across from the Laima clock. My room, a spacious double on the 6th floor, was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was on the 7th floor in the Otto Schwarz restaurant, a room with lovely views across to the Freedom Monument and Orthodox Cathedral. Breakfasts were very good with a wide variety of fresh and dried fruit, cereals, cheeses, meats and bread. Staff were friendly and helpful – I would definitely stay here again.

Simply one of the best located hotel in Riga. I used to live here on and off for two years and been traveling here since 2004 & when I saw a deal for this hotel, I did not hesitate in booking it for a 3 day stay. This used to be called the 'Hotel De Rome' (which was 'THE' hotel of it's time), but has now changed it's name which is why there are so few reviews on Tripadvisor.
Good points - Location, spacious rooms, nice bathroom with hand made soaps etc, entrance hall with coat hook & table, safe, iron & ironing board, trouser press, hairdryer, mini-bar, FREE wifi in your room & public spaces, sauna (but they charge), buffet breakfast (but limited), dining / breakfast room on the 7th floor is elegant with superb views.
Bad points - They charge 20 lats for the sauna, buffet breakfast is adequate but nothing special. TV is from the dark ages but gets BBC World news and CNN. No pool
Overall, staff are great and do what they are paid to do. My room was cleaned in a flash everyday, sometimes I would leave at 10am and would nip back by 12 noon & it was already done. I know from past times this would be on average €80-90 per night hotel, but I managed 3 night for under €130, however I was staying in February, which is the quietest time in Riga. I wanted to give this 4 star hotel 5 star Tripadvisor rating but the 20 Lats sauna charge stopped me. Hotel looks great & public areas are well kept. I have great nights sleep and will use again.

I booked a room at this hotel 8 weeks ahead of my visit to Riga. On arrival I was told the hotel was overbooked ( PR speak for we found a punter willing to pay more ) so we moved you to another hotel. The hotel had both my phone number and email address but did not bother to inform me before I arrived.
Lesson: Your booking at this hotel means nothing. Save yourself the hassle and choose a different hotel
P.S. The reception staff did a great job at covering up the incompetence of the management .

Do not be fooled by tripadvisor positive reviews. The hotel is in a great location (except for being next to smelly McDonald's). This is where its positive features end. You will arrive to the door with your luggage and there is no doorman or porter in sight to assist. In fact they do not have either. You enter the dowdy-looking reception which will take you back to some of the worst hotels in the UK in the 1980s. It is at this point that you start wondering whether all the people who left positive reviews about this hotel were paid to write it or were completely drunk when they stayed here or the hotel wrote the reviews itself.
Your room (and we stayed in the executive suite, so this is the upper end I assume) will be full of shabby and beaten to death furniture from the 1980s with arm chairs showing their insides. I have counted more than 50 nacks on the table. The ceiling is low and the bathroom is cheap and cheerful. But cheap it is not. For Euro 175 per night you may want to take your money elsewhere. There are so many other hotels in the same location, that you should be able to find something much better.

I stayed here during August 2019 as a member of a travel group. And in fact only as a member of an organized trip you can stay here!I can`t even imagine to pay and stay here as an independed traveller. This is a hotel with the best location in the city of Riga, just upon the Freedom square. But it is old and dated , with no security at all ( everyone who is at the square can come in and be a trouble for the guests. We had something like this one night returning to the hotel when an obviously drunk person annoyed us INSIDE THE LOBBY OF THE HOTEL!This hotel needs bouncers at once to protect the quests.
The staff was totally indifferent , unpolite and rude.
We had dinner here , it was just terrible. The breakfast was ok but nothing more.
To cut a long story sort , stay away !

At the corner of the main square. Near the picturesque park with a nice river channel. Walking distance to the main tourists sightseeing as well as to the business area. Good rooms. Quiet place. Entrance to the one of the most tasty restaurant direct from the hotel lobby.

Stayed here for the weekend with friends, great central location, staff friendly and helpful, plenty on offer for breakfast every morning.
rooms clean and tidy, spacious. Wasn't overly full.
Bar staff friendly and amenable, i would recommend this as a place to stay. Great value for money too.

Well located hotel right in the centre of the old town and very close to the Freedom monument and close to one of the old town's gorgeous gardens.
My room was spacious with a king sized bed, desk, comfortable chair, wardrobe, safe, fridge, tv etc. There is a stocked mini bar. The bathroom is also spacious and much more than adequate.
Breakfast may or may not be included depending upon what you purchase. If it isn't included it is an additional E10. Breakfast is extensive with cereals and porridge, breads and pastries, fruits and yoghurt, meats and cheese, eggs, breads, vegetables, juices, tea and coffee.
You are in the middle of the action with cafes, restaurants, bars and shops around you. Buskers can be heard clearly but I like jazz and quite enjoyed that.
Service is friendly, prompt and helpful.

Chose the hotel for it's very convenient location to the Old City. Able to tour for a few hours then relax. Nice interior. Had view of the alley. Breakfast included on the 7th floor with a really good view of the park. Nice breakfast selection. Large bathtub. Right across the street from the park. Convenient to trams and opera hall.
