Practicality and cost-effectiveness in a historic setting; these are the main features of the Biplan Hotel, which is located in a historic 19th century building. Its walls remember the visits of many well-known people. It was here that the celebrated Russian pilot, Sergey Utochkin, used to stay. In 1911, Utochkin in his Farman biplane demonstrated “flights in apparatus heavier than air” over Daugavpils to the public. Today, the hotel preserves the memory of those days in retro photos on the walls and, from the very first moments of your stay, you will be immersed in the romantic atmosphere of the first flights. The hotel offers 42 comfortable rooms, rich and varied breakfasts in our restaurant and conferencing facilities for up to 20 people. There is a picnic facility in the courtyard. The Biplan Hotel is conveniently located within a 5-minute walk of the historic city centre, the bus terminal, the Ice Arena and other popular sights. We provide free parking.

Detailed Reviews
This is a lovely hotel, staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was simple, but clean, comfortable, and quiet. Remote control for the A/C was missing when I arrived, but a staff member was so helpful and went the the trouble of finding a spare for me, I was very grateful to them and a nice cool room.
They don't serve evening meal but there is a burger place next door, and it's not too far to walk into town.
It was heavy rain one night and again staff were so helpful advising me where to find some food and lending me an umbrella.
I would stay again next time

The hotel doesn't look very promising from the street side to be honest, but that changed when we when inside. The Delux room was nice with jacuzzi and sauna in it. The room is located in the first floor which is unusual but because of that there was allways nice and cool temperature as outside was about +30 C. The only thing about the room, we would wish a bit harder matresses. They were a bit too soft.
Friendly staff. Good, rich breakfest with eggs and bacon etc. We would wish more of desserts as there were hardly any.

we were only here for one night, from outside Biplan hotel didn't look great, but once inside, it was much better. our room was very comfortable, and the parking at the back of the hotel was good. Breakfast really wasn't great, but overall a good place to stay, and excellent value for money

The staff are very kind, smiling, responsive.
Breakfast brilliant, plentiful and warm.
It was a little disturbing that there was not one big mattress in the bed, but two small mattresses.
Comfortable parking, you can sit in the gazebo.
Thank you, let's come back.

A hotel which has been very well renovated in parts, with taste and design. The rooms are very clean and top renovated. Unfortunately, our room was facing the main street and not the backyard :-( Centrally located and within walking distance of everything. Breakfast can be taken, but you don't have to. There is a need for improvement.

Excellent hotel. Clean and comfortable rooms. Very comfortable beds. Tasty breakfast. Very nice staff. Good free parking in the yard. There is a barbecue area in the courtyard. Perhaps this is the best hotel in this city in terms of price-quality ratio.

The room #1 is large and clean but located on the ground floor faced to the main street with high traffic. So forget about opened windows and fresh air. The reception staff is very pretty, prompt and fast. Even drinks and sneaks are available but extra. The breakfast is very limited but delicious and fresh.

Response from Olga L, Владелец at Biplan Hotel
Responded Nov 1, 2018
Dear Igor, Thank you for taking a moment out of your time to share your feedback with us. We are pleased to know that you appreciate the size and cleanliness of the room. In regards of your disappointment about the room with the windows to the road, please note that You can always request a room with windows facing the courtyard (depends on the availability administrator is always ready to help). And also where is air-condition in the room. We look forward to welcoming you again. Best wishes, Hotel Biplan Manager Olga.

Private parking, not far from city center (10 min walk). No elevator, therefore need to carry child by yourself to the room in attic. Breakfast is general, not big choice of food. For this price usually we got much better hotel/room with good breakfast. Comparing to other hotels - this hotel does not worth the money.

When you tell Latvians you are going to Daugavpils, they always laugh in an embarrassed way. Now I know why! This must be the ugliest and most miserable place in Latvia although I have to say that the people seem as friendly and helpful as any others in the country. Daugavspils is the prison capital of Latvia and this hotel, located close to the main criminal prison, is in character.
The hotel seems to be mainly used by van drivers. Everything it claims, it has. It says the room has a balcony and it does but overlooking a main road and with a view of the prison. It says it has satellite TV, and it does and if your Russian is good (or you can read Latvian subtitles) you might enjoy it. I have to say, though, tat there is a 'fridge and tea/coffee making facilities in every room and the bathroom is clean and OK.
I've never seen such poorly planned hotel room. The bed almost fully occupies an alcove behind which is the only available electric socket. You can access this only by throwing yourself onto the bed. The TV is on the wall at right angles to the bed and invisible from the chair provided in the room. If you can access power, the wifi does worth.
Breakfast does not start until 8am but be quick because the van drivers are keen to get on the road (and away from Daugavpils!) so there's not much left by 8.10 and the refill takes until 9.00.
I doubt Daugavpils has much by way of accommodation - it's pretty hard to find anywhere to eat - but, if there is a choice, I'd recommend avoiding the Biplan which is not, as I thought, a name for some social support programme but Latvian for biplane: seems the owner is an aviation enthusiast.
