We stayed at the suite with sauna over NYE. The location is stellar for anyone looking to spend time in the center as everything is just a few minutes away. As mentioned before by others, the place might look a bit outdated, but personally I wasn't bothered by it. It was mostly clean with a few exceptions like the faucets in the bathroom. We really enjoyed the sauna - it heated up fast and it also has a timer if you don't want to wait around for it to warm up. The only downside were the towels as they were quite small and there weren't enough to have something around you between taking steams for lounging around and then a dry one for drying yourself off after finishing and taking a shower. Robes were not provided. We wanted to have another session in the morning as well and for that the receptionist was very helpful by providing us with some new towels. The room also has a balcony facing the park in front of the house. This is also the direction of windows. Even with the hustle and bustle of NYE we still got a decent night sleep. We also didn't hear other people in the hotel, so that's a big plus. The breakfast is modest, but filling - a few types of sliced meats, one type of cheese, some cereals, some fruit, slices of tomatoes and cucumbers, omelette, sausages and bacon come to mind. Me and my partner were satisfied, but it can be disappointing for someone with food allergies or vegetarian/vegan diet.…
Visiting Tartu where my daughter went to university. Needed a place that was central to the old town. This place is excellent. Yes I know it is not the most modern, and yes it had an old style lift..... and yes there are wall plaques to generals from WW2... but if you want to be out and about, this is it....
The hotel has a convenient location in the old city centre: 2 minutes to the Town Hall Square and 15 minutes by walking to the Bus station. It has clean rooms, good enough breakfast and friendly staff. This hotel is excellent value for money!
Stayed here for some days, because my friends' place, were I usually stay in Tartu, was being renovated. One of the main perks is a very central location. Staff is friendly and rooms are kept clean. On the downside, the interior definitely needs updating. The lock of the room door can get jammed sometimes and make it difficult to get in again. The bed was OK, the hairdryer old and weak, but worked, safe was also in working order. When there are few guests, you are supposed to choose your breakfast from a list at the reception on the previous day, otherwise, there is a buffet with limited choice. OK for short stay, if you don´t expect anything special.
Hotel has great location in Tartu old town. Hotel looks a bit dated and needs upgrade to modern standards. At the same time prices are very reasonable and the cheapest in city center, this compensates a lot. Please improve your breakfast back to the level, where it was ca 10 years ago.
I stayed in this hotel with my girlfriend and her son in June 2018 for four nights to see Midsummer in Tartu. The hotel is very centrally located in Tartu and very spacious and stylish. We had booked a junior suite which normally only serves two people but the hotel provided an extra bed on request. The extra bed turned out to be convertible sofa but it suited our purposes well. The room was very spacious, almost as big as my apartment, and very stylish and clean. Even the bathroom was spacious and stylish and comfortable to use. The breakfast buffet was served at the restaurant YliCool right next to the hotel. I found the breakfast buffet very bland, there were very few offerings I would have liked. YliCool also serves as a bar in the evening, but we were out on the city for so late that the bar had already closed when we came back. Even though the room was for two people and there were three of us there (we had booked an extra bed) the hotel only provided us with one room key, and the key fob it was attached to was quite heavy. We usually had to leave the key at the reception desk and pick it up later. The hotel elevator was also a bit cramped. Even though Finnish is closely related to Estonian, the staff don't appear to understand Finnish. Luckily we were able to converse in English. Still, the good points of this hotel far outweigh the bad points. Even though the hotel is a bit pricey, I would definitely recommend it.…
We stayed for two nights in the Barclay. The room was fine but given that we booked a ‘deluxe suit’ I wouldn’t really describe it as such. The room was quite big and split into two areas. There was a good sized bathroom with a whirlpool bath that didn’t work. The plus sides: The room was clean and a good size. The location is great, right next to the old town. The downsides: The room was roasting. Only one of the windows opened which meant one side of the suite got really hot and couldn’t be aired out. It was also incredibly noisy all night. Early evening there was music blaring from the nearby festival which was fine and expected. However what the hotel fail to mention is that the room is right over the exit for the casino/club so there is loads of noise until the early hours from that. And then there are drunks that hang around in the park singing at 4am. As there is no air conditioning there is no option but to sleep with the window wide open. On balance if the room was cheap I would have been happy but it wasn’t. I think there are better hotels to choose. …
Noting wrong with this place. Pretty basic but quiet clean and comfortable. Like everywhere we went in Estonia wifi good. On a reasonably quiet road opposite a park leading down to the river. On the edge of the old town but very close to a bunch of modern shopping malls containing all youd need. Taartu is a very small place anyhow so location shouldnt really be much of an issue. We had a top floor skylight room. It was unusually hot that day ,28c outside , so the lack of ac was noticed, but I doubt its often an issue. Had the window open all night and slept ok. Price was high at E110 ex breakfast as there was a triathlon event in town, all hotels were bid up so we took this. There are obviously better hotels in town but no complaints with this. There is an attached restaurant but we didnt try it. …
Barclay Hotel is definitely the nicest place to stay in Tartu. Have stayed at four other hotels in the city but this is my favorite. The rooms have kept their charm and are still very comfortable. Best location over all other Tartu hotels overlooking beautiful central park and university street. Always feel at ease in Tartu when staying here :) just step out and you are right in center of action. highly recommended :)
I had great stay in this hotel especially due to super-fast internet. I made internet speedtest and got download speed 85Mbps and upload speed 30 Mbps. Hotel has good central location in Tartu and the room was clean and comfortable too.
