Rooms are spacious, clean and cosy. If you are looking for a quiet place, then I think it is an excellent choice. The city centre is walking distance from the guesthouse and so is the train station. Helpful staff.

Situated 10-15 mins walk from central square (Raekoja), old town and main university building, 5 mins from old cathedral, 15 mins from railway station, this B&B is quiet, comfortable and very reasonably priced. Breakfast-making facilities, incl. kettle, crockery and cutlery. Groceries can be bought down town or in large, well-stocked Selver supermarket (15 mins walk away on Näituse, across railway tracks and on the right). One double room is "en suite", the other 2 (even less expensive) share bathroom/shower and toilet. Highly recommended. All bookable on line. Owner/administrator (male) communicates well in basic English.

We spent one night in Kastani, and it was nice and cozy. The house is charming, located in a quiet, lovely part of Tartu, which looks more like a suburb. And it is really close to the center - 10 minutes walk! We had a spacious twin room with bathroom. It was clean and comfortable. You get the key, which locks both the room and the front door - and start feeling at home. The breakfast was ok: no pleasant surprises, but no dissapointment. The guy who met us was more shy and a bit scared, than friendly and professional. My overall impression is good. I really liked the romantic house with beautiful art deco front door, near the park. It is worth its price!

If you are looking for a quiet and cheap place close to the train station and not far away from the center of Tartu (about 800 meters), this is s a very good option. They offer very basic but clean rooms with a very small TV in a traditional Estonian house. The administrator is a young man who doesn't speak English very good, so if you don't speak Estonian it can be difficult to communicate with him. They also offer a breakfast for 4€, but I didn't try it.

I spent the night in Kastani Kodumajutus (Kastani Home Accommodation) during a cultural weekend-trip to Tartu. I chose this guesthouse mostly because of the price (booked it one day in advance for 38 €) and location. It’s lazy 10 minutes walk from the train station and walking to the city takes only a bit more if you choose to go around Toomemägi instead of going over it. :) Area around the house is quiet. Next door is Deutschen Kulturinstituts Tartu and nearby on the street Näituse is eatery Ženžen offering reasonably priced Northern Chinese cuisine. It’s a small home accommodation with only 3 rooms: one with private bathroom and toilet and two rooms sharing bathroom and toilet. Although guesthouse offers twin rooms, the beds can be easily pushed together (or you can ask to do it before). All the rooms, bathroom and toilet are located on the first floor and surround the open dining room. Dining room has a big table for 6 and some kitchenware: kettle, toaster, fridge, cutlery etc. They offer breakfast for 3.90 €/person. Our room was room no. 1, the one sharing bathroom-toilet with the second room. It was quiet (there was another room between the dining room), roomy and bright (two big windows). Room had a separate heating system and it was possible to change the temperature. It also had a tiny TV. All in all, house was quiet, it was close to the city center and room was reasonably priced – everything was just great. :)
