Kalev Spa Hotel & Waterpark is lauded for its spa facilities, which are clean, diverse, and accommodating for families, although some guests suggest improvements in service. While the rooms are generally praised for their cleanliness and amenities, issues with size, noise, and temperature regulation have been raised. The hotel boasts a welcoming atmosphere and a prime location near the Old Town, but opinions on value vary, with some guests questioning the pricing. Service quality also seems inconsistent, ranging from commendable to needing enhancement.

Enjoyed a weekend with a family of four. Kids loved the spa and we visited there every day. The place was clean and everything worked as a quality hotel should. Nice spa treatments too to relax and get your mind off the everyday life.

My dad, mom, and me chose this hotel for a family pre-New Year weekend.
It is a good price & quality match. I would like to especially mention Jaanus Lindre working at the reception. He helped us a lot with all the questions we had.

For a hotel with SPA center included, the room rates are pretty cost-effective. Consider, there are to sleepers in the room, neither hair conditioners, tooth brush & paste, etc. There is standard all i one soap & shampoo. However, when I asked for it (ladies will understand that it's hard to have a nice hair with all in one soap), i got it all.
Also, my mom received sparkling wine as a compliment for her B Day, very nice.
SPA center is okay, warm enough. Big swimming pools and some sliders, no cold pool to refresh after sauna.

Dear Guest, thank you so much for this great review. We have forwarded your special thanks to Jaanus at reception. He is one of our senior staff members you can always relay on, no doubt. We have an environmental-friendly approach - not just to be cost efficient but actually avoid wasting and consider nature and environment, not using plastic as small bottles. There is a beauty center on the 3rd floor that provides professional salon products for hair and skin but to be honest, the one in the room dispenser is a professional hotel product as well. We have indeed everything necessary available on request from Reception. We have cold shower now, we used to have a cold pool as well before renovation but it was not too popular among guests and as our spa generally is renewed according to guests feedback, so was this decision made. We are very thankful for your comments and ideas, there is always room for improvement. Welcome back any time you visit Tallinn again, With best regards, Piret Betlem and Kalev Spa team

Hotel and spa was very nice, but there is lot of helpful information missing.
1. Guide says, that there is light meal available from lobby bar. But where is lobby bar? There are no signs. By asking from restaurant reception, we found out, that this is also lobby bar, but there is actually no food available from the bar. From the bar we got information, that light meal is available from spa bar. And now is the question: where is the spa bar? Do we have to put on swimming clothes and go inside the spa area or is it also accessible from outside like some other hotels?
2. The Sauna-oasis area is not included in hotel price and it is possible to buy an addition ticket for that. But what does the ticket costs and where we can buy it? Finally we found out, that we can buy tickets from spa bar. Ticket cost was only available on the screen at the bar and screen was changings slides so you can easily miss the information. There were 2 different prices on the screen: price for hotel guests and special price. No information, that on which condition the special price is. Thankfully for unknows reasons, we got the cheaper special price.
3. Sign "saunas" will lead you to toilets and actually the saunas are further away around the corner.
4. If you come down from stairs, there is a sign indicating direction to the restaurant, but it actually leads you to "staff only" kitchen door.

Dear Guest, thank You very much for Your constructive feedback. The guide has been changed now, we only us QR-code basis house-guide now, as the brochures in-room can be misleading and can not be changed too often. We also have some snacks at night-bar in case everything else is closed. Sauna-oasis adds are everywhere, indeed and it has not been an issue before, where to buy the tickets - either at hotel reception or water park bar is the answer. The guests who are not staying at the hotel, have different entrance and they pay different prices - depending what price have they paid for the entrance (period ticket or single ticket etc), hotel guests have unlimited access to water park, but they pay extra for ticket to sauna-oasis unless it is included in their hotel package. The signs "saunas" show to the right direction. If you missed the arrow, you probably went directly to toilets. if you come downstairs, you can either go right or left but still you end up in reception/restaurant area. Kitchen door is backdoor and there is no reason to go there. We have improved the signs system throughout the years, as the house can be logistically complicated, if you are visiting first time. We can not help, that the 50 m pool is in the middle of the house and the hotel rooms are "around it". Thank you your your comments, we have to improve the misleading information most certainly. As we are Green Key certificated hotel now, we try to reduce printing materials and use more digital solutions as well. With best regards,

This is a poor quality hotel for the money, think budget hotel attached to a public pool, although might make sense if four of you are super keen to use the water park. But for us the unnessary failure was the service. Three issues, 1) told we had to have flip flops (how about including that in the email about checking in) the told that the shop sold kids ones, went to get very overpriced shoes (€25 euro vs €10 retail) and no one mentioned the 10percent discount for hotel guests even though clearly I was one, 2) there are two entrances one at the back of the building and one at front next to shops, when trying to get to the shops told that hotel guests can not use the front entrance, why? Because that is the rule. 3)most seriously, my 5yr old was waiting by automatic doors which were open, she lent her hand on the door and it got trapped, cue screaming, wife asked for help, one receptionist sat there looking bewildered and the other just quickly walked away. We got them out and they started to bleed, reluctantly given some antiseptic, no apologies no accident book no manager nothing, now you might say she should not have been standing there but you also might say that a hotel should be super vigilant attentive and wanting to ensure that there was no health and safety issues. Unless you are super into water slides I would give the mediocre kids pools a miss. We regularly go to Tallinn and for the sort of money they are charging there are much more luxurious options.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your honest issue. It is very sad that we failed to meet your expectations. Some of your assessments are not quite right though. You do not have to have flip flops, it is only recommended. I copy from our welcome letter as it says exactly about slippers: Do not forget to bring along your swimming suit and slippers to visit Tallinn´s biggest water park and the only 50 m pool (but we have a special shop, too, in case you need anything). Everything else you will find here. Thank you for mentioning the discount you were not offered - probably a staff member forgot and we are very sorry about that. Yes, there are two entrances at the house. One for hotel an the other for water park, hotel entrance is at the hotel side. It is for safety reasons and also because of the cleanliness of the house. You still have to walk about the same distance towards city center, going to the old town, it is the same as well. Our receptionist remembers Your case well and she and our front office manager can ensure, that your daughter was immediately helped, she was given anti -septic. Perhaps they did not realize what was the matter at the first sight. I will definitely go through the situation with them, it was a busy time and probably they did not pay enough attention to this. I hope that your daughters finger is healed now. We apologize for any inconveniences you had at the hotel and hope that you had a good beginning of the year. With best regards, Piret Betlem Hotel Manager

Bought a package for couples called “liblikad kõhus”, but the name of the package didn’t really match with what was offered.
At first we were housed in what seemed like the cheapest and smallest, darkest room on the first floor, but after 5 hours we decided to request for an upgrade to a standard room, which was provided to us by the lovely and helpful receptionist.
Couldn’t really peacefully enjoy the water park cause there were a lot of screaming kids (kids workout classes and a birthday party) + we didn’t know that the quiet sauna oasis is an additional charge (should be informed in the package description).
Food at the restaurant was delicious but the waitress wasn’t very friendly.
All in all I would have to say it was an interesting experience.

Location perfect for the harbour and the quieter side of the old town. Renovated room, great firm bed and nice bathroom. Excellent breakfast served in restaurant allee. Service at reception was great. We paid a bit extra for a room on the 5th floor with a balcony - with a spectacular view of the old town and the sea. The spa was also renovated but it is quite a labyrinth to get there from the hotel side. Fun for families and real professional swimmers.

Dear guest! Thank you so much for this lovely feedback! Kalev Spa was fully renovated last year and there is so much to do for everybody, indeed. Not mentioning the great location with easy access to old town. It may seem difficult to find your way in the house at the first sight, depending where your room is located, but we can not help the fact that big 50 m pool is literally in the middle of the house. We have added signs everywhere but some clients do not seem to notice them- anyhow we will try to improve it even more. Thank you again and welcome back! Please remember to book directly with the hotel. With best Regards, Piret Betlem Hotel Manager

The food is delicious! Especially the breakfast!
Offer of the Spa could be more spacious, only two saunas, one of them most of the time is empty, no people there because the temperature is average and there is no possibility to add hot water to the stones as it is usual in such times of saunas.
The location is excellent, so very close to the old town.
Everything was very clean, what could be done differntly- cleaning service at the lobby not during the meals- we as the customers are not supposed to see cleaning process while eating.

Dear Guest, thank you for your feedback. Please notify that we have more saunas at the showers room. If you wish to experience Finnish saunas, then there are two of them downstairs. One of the saunas is sanarium and it is a low temperature sauna. The other is aroma -steam sauna. Both saunas are working correctly and are very popular. At sauna Oasis there are additional 5 saunas. We will most certainly discuss through the cleaning standards, it should not be disturbing for our guests. Cleaning starts after the breakfast , not before, so we need to figure out, what was the time of the day, when the cleaning took place. It should not be happening when the guests are having meals so thank you for bringing it up. We hope to see you here also in the future, With best regards, Piret Betlem Hotel Manager

We were absolutely amazed by the Kalev Spa Hotel! As spa culture is big in Estonia we decided to stay in the newly renovated Kalev Spa Hotel to experience this slice of life while enjoying picturesque Tallinn with the UNESCO Old Town. The hotel provided the full pampering experience we had hoped for. First of the room was nicely decorated with a super comfortable bed and a stunning view through its large windows on the old town, the location could not have been better. The breakfast is prepared with great attention, from local food to anything travelers could wish for. The breakfast setting boosts views on the park. The spa in itself was absolutely amazing. The no-children policy allows for a super tranquil experience in the many different type of saunas and sensory experience haman. The gym is massive with top notch machines and hotel guests can enjoy the water park and Olympic swimming pool at no additional cost (there are saunas in the water park as well so the kids can enjoy both). We will definitely return to Tallinn as the town captivated us and know where to stay!

We only came to visit the water park and spa, but what a great experience! We got a spa deal for €35 where we got to spend 3 hours in the spa and water park, then get a 30 minute massage. We then added on a facial to fill in the rest of the time before our ferry. The spa area was very clean and well decorated, with free snacks and water. Downstairs from the relaxing area, there are 4 different saunas and 4 jacuzzis at different temperatures that you can visit. After the saunas, the massage was very nice and the facial really brightened up my skin. All the employees were very nice and friendly, helping us with whatever we needed including luggage storage. I highly recommend visiting for the value - we had a great afternoon!

We chose between Kalev and Tallink spa for a visit with small children. Pricing at Kalev seemed cheaper as well as the location more central so we went here but wanted to share our terrible experience. The facilities are in poor shape and did not feel fresh nor modern. The place felt dirty overall. The water slides cater for older kids and adults able to swim in deeper pools, not for small/short kids. For babies there were some water activities but for for a bit older (but not yet ready to plunge in deep pools), not much to do. What we thought we’d save in terms of entrance fees (compared to Tallink spa) came back with very expensive towel rent (4 eur per towel compared to 4,5 eur for a child entrance). Next time the choice for spa with kids is obvious.

Dear Guest, Thank You for Your feedback. I am sorry that we did not meet Your expectations or probably You had different expectations. It is always wise to check the website and choose the spa according to your preferences and also considering the children´s ages. There are no water slides in Tallink Spa and this is one of the reasons why Kalev Spa is the most popular spa in Tallinn among teenagers. We also have the only 50M pool in northern Estonia. Tubes are allowed for kids taller that 1 m and we also have special swimming pool for age 4-7 and another one for small babies. It seems that You visited only waterpark and not the hotel. Kalev Spa went through full renovation that lasted 22 months and investment was over 12 million euros- as there was also a pandemic period when the spas were closed, the property looks as good as new as many of our clients say. I understand if You feel opposite and everybody has a right to have their own opinion. Having said all that, we still thank You for Your feedback and as we have an ongoing project to be more family-friendly, we have to work with weaknesses, too. With Best Regards,

Yes, the water was warm, at least in all the small pools, I did not try the big one. I was there with my grandkids, so most of the time just stood and watched them show me how they swam, and still, it was warm enough.

Hi, please read carefully terms and conditions when you make bookings, it is the same with booking plane tickets etc. Hotel is not managing it´s partners sites and can not therefore decide, how the information is presented. We apologize for inconveniences and are very interested that our guests have all the information prior arrival, and not get disappointed when they hear it only at the hotel.
