Staying at Ginkgo will open up hundreds of years of Hungarian history to you: it is housed in a historical art nouveau building that still bears bullet holes from the 1956 Revolution against Soviet occupation. The hostel is located in a flat that was privatized after the change of regimes. Historical marks surround you whether you are outside the building or in Gingko's unique courtyard. Ginkgo Hostel lies in the heart of downtown Budapest, near the Danube, on the Pest side of the city. In a few minutes you can reach historic sites and the most popular cafes, restaurants and pubs as well.

This hostel is in a very good location. I have stayed here twice. The rooms are fine and the place is very clean. The kitchen is not much. One hot plate and a microwave. The staff is very nice, in that grumpy Hungarian way. You can store you bag here if you have a late train after check out. There are always interesting people staying here. Hungarian speaking Americans? Really? Monsanto chemist? Nest of spies to be sure.

I stayed over Sziget week so I'm sure that was one of the contributing factors in why it was so quiet in this hostel. First night I had to sleep on a matress on the floor while there was a bed free as the person hadn't booked in just yet where I felt as I was there first I should have gotten the bed first. First come, first served and all that. The wifi was terrible. Other than that Dori was really lovely and Budapest is amazing.

Wauzi and we felt really welc(h)ome! Best Hostel we could have chosen. Little bit of an alternative, free, hippie flatshare. Thank you so much! Only thing what was hard - the matress. But maybe now we have every bone and vortex where it's supposed to be! Love from Wauzi, Philomena and Salomon from Germany

We like it to stay at Gingko. It has a nice and cosy atmosfere and it's clean. There were more people staying, but it still was very quit (although we slept next to the common room and sometimes we heard some people in the night, but they weren't too loud). The room was nice, although the bed/matras was very hard. Location is good to, very many walkable tourist spots. There isn't a real kitchen, but you can manage to cook some basic if needed. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. Overall: a really nice place to stay at!

I stayed for three nights in a double room with shared bathroom, and it didn't lack anything. The room and the common areas were really cozy, it felt more like staying in someone's home than in a hostel. Both the room and the bathrooms were very clean, spacious and well equipped. However, it felt pretty empty when I was there. I guess it's not the tourist season, but it had an almost eerie feeling at times. Another possible minus is the lack of a proper kitchen (no oven, sink etc). This didn't bother me personally, but it something that should be taken into account. Apart from that i'm only positive though. Extra points for letting me check in early in the morning. There were some laundry drying in my room when I arrived, but that took 2 minutes to carry out and the girl in the reception was very apologetic. I had expected that cleaning wasn't gonna be ready and I would have had to wait for a few hours before getting access to the room.

This place was a breath of fresh air having spent the previous week in a big hostel with absolutely no personality or charm to it. The staff at Ginkgo Hostel is kind, helpful and professional. Everything here is actually quite nice except from two things: the wifi doesn't work in the 6-person dorm room, but they are working on that so that is not a permanent issue. The wifi works perfectly in the common areas though. The second thing is the lack of a kitchen at the moment there's two heat plates, an electrical kettle, a toaster and a microwave oven. There's a fridge as well. The pots and pans are decent quality so no problem there. They already have plans to build a kitchen and since they gave themselves a new bathroom as a Christmas present I have no doubt the there will soon be a brand new kitchen there as well. I stayed here for around two weeks so it is not at all a bad place. It is possible to have breakfast here which costs 3€ or 900HUF. It is also possible to do laundry here one wash is around 500HUF. Enjoy.

It was amazing time for me at Budapest. The choice was perfect. Location at centre of the city. Night life 2 blocks away. Plenty of options for restaurants and I got a nice offer for 2 night stay. Clean beds, decent rooms with 7 beds. Many bathrooms and toilets. Breakfast was not suitable for me. But many did choose to eat here so many it was good. Nice welcoming team at hostel and they even gave some tips on places to visit in Budapest. I give them 5!

We book the hostel at last minute, and ginkgo looked as our best option. It is a ok hostel, nice staff and good location, really close to Astoria and Ferenciek tere. But some things were not so nice: the room was for 8 bed, you had to go through another 8 bed room, disturbing everyone at night. There is no kicthen, only two cooking plates, and you had to use the bathroom sink. The breakfast costs 3euros and its nothing special. The common area/kitchen is ok. They play classic music all day long. It's definitely not a party hostel. The wifi did not work in my room.

I really enjoyed staying at this hostel. It had a nice laid-back atmosphere, which was helped by the fact that a lot of people hung out in the common area/kitchen. The staff was super friendly and helpful in giving directions to sights, restaurants, the airport and a place to print out my boarding pass. :) The facilities were clean and modern. I stayed in a 7-bed dorm room, which had three bunk beads and one single bed. The hostel also provided lockers with a key and since my backpack wasn't too big it fit well. There were two bathrooms and one separate toilet. This hostel also provided a mop so you could clean the floor after your shower although, unfortunately, not everyone did this... The hostel also provides breakfast for 3 Euros. You get coffee, cereals, different types of jam and bread. They also have a toaster, a kettle, two cooking plates and a big fridge to leave your perishable food. The hostel also provides free wifi (which didn't work so well in my room) and two computers in the common area. The hostel is located close to two metro stations: Astoria on the red line (M2) and Ferenciek tere on the blue line (M3).
