The Danubius Hotel Astoria City Center captivates with its classic and regal charm, especially in the ornate common areas, though guests suggest room updates could enhance the experience. Nestled in a prime Budapest location, the hotel is a hit for its accessibility to transport and nearby attractions.
While some guests commend the cleanliness and refurbished rooms, others point to inconsistent upkeep and a need for better in-room amenities. Unfortunately, the service often falls short of expectations, with reports of unresponsive staff contributing to a perception that the hotel may not offer sufficient value for its pricing.

Just Loved my stay here ..It’s a fantastic hotel..superb location bang on Metro / Tram and Bus stops. Very much walkable to prominent tourist stops.
It’s an old world charm and staff is very polite and helpful. Don’t remember the name but the old gentleman at the reception was extremely helpful is guiding us late night for getting water.
Breakfast spread is very good and tasty..
Lot of departmental stores nearby..
Rooms are vintage style well maintained, heated and clean.
They also have an in house restaurant which seems to be a popular place in evening though didn’t try it for dinner.
Prefer rooms with road view.
Lots of good eating joints nearby which are buzzing till very late at night. Also location is very safe..
Tea coffee maker available in rooms adds to convenience.
10-15 mins from Budapest main station via metro.
A must stay if you are visiting Budapest

Dear Guest, We are grateful for the time you took out of your day to write us such a detailed, positive feedback. We are glad that you liked specially the very good location of our hotel, our staff, the selection of breakfast dishes and the comfortable room. Our Astoria hotel represents the exquisite charm of the turn-of-the-century elegance and although most of the hotel's rooms have the classic styling of the past century, it also has fully renovated and modernized Superior rooms with stylish furnishings, so that our guests can find the best room type suitable for them. We hope to see you again soon. Best regards, Katalin H. Danubius Hotel Astoria

On arrival, the sheer opulence of an almost lost era greets you in this classically styled hotel. It’s easy to see why it has been one of the best hotels in Budapest, and remains so.
The lobby is full of hidden treasures, and shows off the artfulness of its creators. It’s just like stepping back in time.
The reception staff are helpful, friendly and informative. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Our room was lovely and we chose to stay on the 3rd floor. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was kept very clean and replenished with complementary toiletries on a daily basis. A fridge is provided, which is really handy, and the minibar is not unreasonably priced.
The bar was excellent at night, with a wonderful choice of Hungarian red wine, which was delightful. This was made even better with the bar snacks and visiting orchestra playing Hungarian folk music.
Breakfast was varied and catered for all nationalities. If you want a full English, then stay at home! Omelettes were cooked to order and were delicious. I enjoyed trying the various foods on offer, including chocolate truffles with coffee.
The hotel is ideally situated and right next to a Metro station and also a stop for the open top tourist bus.
We would definitely return here, and I highly recommend this hotel if you’re visiting Budapest.

A lovely old hotel, (1914 I believe), with beautiful interior features, likely mostly original. We upgraded to a junior suite which was pretty big, the bed was comfortable and we had loads of space in the room.
The bathroom was very nice, with possibly the most powerful shower in the world!!
We only ate breakfast in the hotel, which is buffet style and is very good with a fairly large choice of hot and cold food.
The hotel is Pest side of the city and very well located for reaching lots of places.
I would only have a couple of small complaints, one is that the hotel seems to have a slight drainage/sewage issue, or maybe the street does, but there is definitely an aroma in reception, lifts and the corridor to our room. Thankfully it didn't get into our room or the restaurant.
Also, unfortunately the housekeeping didn't re-supply the coffee or milk/creamer in the room when it was obvious we had used it the morning before. Maybe a pointless thing to say, but if you pay your money you expect a simple service like that to be flawless.
Other than that I'd happily recommend this hotel.

Stop looking and book this hotel. You will not be disappointed.
Perfect central location within easy walk of attractions, tram and metro stops outside hotel front door. Take the 100E bus from the airport and it'll drop you off outside the hotel for a return price of £5.
Entire hotel clean, tidy and very appealing. Every member of staff we spoke to were extremely poolite and professional. They are a credit to the hotel.
Breakfast buffet superb, just don't be too greedy!
Our room was on the 6th floor. It was spacious with everything you could need. The bed was comfortable, and we couldn't hear any traffic.
All in all perfect. Highly recommended.

The Astoria is a hotel that is over 100 years old. It is beautiful if you like classic decor and old world appeal. The rooms are clean tidy as is the hotel and the staff are so friendly and accommodating. You can walk anywhere from this location but if you don’t fancy this the metro station is literally outside the door.
The restaurant serves amazing food with musicians that add to the atmosphere of stepping back in time... amazing all round visit !
Thanks Danubius

Good location in impressive old building. However, very noisy, especially during the night. Emergency services really do like their sirens!! Windows in the room did nothing to block out any of the noise.
Staff efficient & polite, but didn’t smile much.
Disappointed with room cleanliness. (Toilet wasn’t cleaned & bedding not changed in the whole time we were there).
Really nice breakfast buffet, but when we ate from lunchtime & evening menus the service was very slow.
Not sure whether we’d stay there again.

Old building but charming interiors.
We booked for 1 double superior room and 1 quadruple room, the double is very classic while the quadruple is a really beautiful bedroom (like a mini apartment). Both bedrooms with 2 bathrooms.
We only had a little problem when we arrived because just in front the double room there was a bed for massages but once we asked to move it they moved it to another room.
Staff, breakfast were good.
Position is okay, central.
Cleaning should be better, especially in the bathrooms.

What a disappointment. Was so looking forward tomsatyingbhere based on the reviews I had read. Believe that you believe the earth is flat.
Asked for a quiet room, which was done. What I did not ask for from a 4 star hotel is an aircon that is so noisy impossible to use for heating or cooling. The rooms so uncomfortably hot, if you open the door to cool the room down the noise from outside makes it impossible to sleep.
Wallpaper peeling off the wall.
Old, outdated TV.
The bed was lop-sided so you felt you falling off the bed when trying to sleep in the unbearable heat.
No towels in room. Eventually got my own from the storeroom next to my room.
Soap, only 1 shampoo for 2 people for 2 days. Not topped up or replaced.
Shower in bath with pathetic curtain so floor always wet after showering.
Only a 4 star because it's been there before hotels had ratings, now it's a sad establishment pigybacking on tourist entrapment due tomits location.
It almost as if they hate you booking in advance, They see you got the advantage of early booking prices then make sure every aspect of your stay is made as miserable as possible as if to say "how dare you book at our place and get a good rate. We will show you..."

Really enjoyed the style and location of the hotel and the service and room comforts exceeded our expectations. Great value for money, the buffet breakfast excellent and good choices depending on your appetite. We stayed for 3 nights and the ability to access the hop-on-off bus red line stops across the road was handy. We were also comfortable walking distance to many attractions and restaurants.
Only concern was the traffic noise from a busy intersection, but apart from this can highly recommend.

Southampton, United Kingdom204 contributions88 helpful votesWe are arriving Sunday morning does the shuttle bus run on a Sunday or is it better to organise a taxi through the hotel?
Yes, there is a safe in the room. I do not know if they provide airport pick up. I doubt it. The airport is not that far.A taxi from the airport is about US$27. They also have shared many bus transportation to your hotel as well as a bus line that runs from the airport directly to Astoria square where the hotel is located.
We found the Number 100E bus outside the airport quite useful, it drops you opposite the hotel and it is only 900HUF one way which is less Than £3.Make sure you get your ticket at the booths in the airport as you can only travel with a pre paid ticket, there are only 2 stops so get off at the Second one and it takes about 30 mins. Obviously it's comfier by taxi but a lot more expensive. Have a wonderful trip, hope this helps.
