I stay at Hotel Charles since 2000, the staff is great (speaks english, german very well and are always polite). Through, over the years the rooms looks the same as 15 years ago, the food from breakfast which was one of the richest I've ever seen 10-15 years ago started not to be in so much variety and the quality... This is an excellent option for most travellers - fairly good location, relatively inexpensive and with friendly and helpful staff. Not-so-good for newlyweds though as they don't really have anything other than single beds (our honeymoon was a trip through scenic parts of Eastern Europe). Air conditioning in the rooms is also an upgrade. The Soviet-era styling is almost retro... More

The hotel was really cheap yet pleasant. The twin room was equipped with a kitchenette, including a fridge, hob, and kettle. This was handy although it could have done with more crockery. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the restaurant served the best burgers i've ever had! It is 6euro's a night for air-conditioning however it was really... More

A short bus journey, 10 mins from city or 25 minute walk, take the scenic route through the park and down by the river to the Chain Bridge. Rooms are very spacious, very clean, new linens. Our room had a great view over Buda hills. Staff very helpful and professional. Breakfast, good selection, good coffee and tea. Nice dining room.... More

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighborhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
