My family and I stayed here for 3 nights. I made the reservation about 1.5 months in advance and was able to book a Grand Castle Suite with a River View facing the Danube, the castle, and the Chain Bridge. Our rate included breakfast on the ground floor and access to the Club Lounge on the 1st floor. I did not use the gym nor spa so I cannot comment on those. I really wanted to have a drink at the hotel bar with a Rubik’s cube, but didn’t get to do that during this trip. The view from our room was stunning. We were on the 7th floor and the view of the Danube, the Chain Bridge, and Buda side took my breath away. The windows go from wall to wall in the main living area. I didn’t want to check out and wished we had booked a week in Budapest instead of only 3 nights. This was an incredibly comfortable room due to the spectacular view and the spaciousness of the suite. We had 2 children with us, so one slept on the couch (with a sheet on it and pillow) and we requested a roll away bed for the other child. There was still plenty of space for a desk. We had solid door separating the children from the bedroom with a King Bed and the bathroom. We were given welcome snacks of nuts and dried fruits and a very cute marzipan Rubiks Cube. The king size bed was very comfortable. We slept so well each night. The curtains are excellent at keeping out light. I do think the curtains are a bit hard to open and close. The bathroom was on the small side but it was fine. The toiletries in the bathroom were by Byredo in the Bal D’Afrique scent. I love that hotels are doing away with tiny bottles because they are so wasteful, hard to open, and squeeze out. The large pump bottles in the shower and at the sink are such an efficient idea, and I’m glad more and more hotels are doing this, because they can invest in nicer quality brands. There was plenty of hot water. There is that annoying half door on the shower, which I still don’t understand- hotels like this because it saves the cleaning lady time? The bathroom floor gets wet easily where there is only half a door on the shower. Won’t that over time create mold on the floor, which will add time and expense to clean in the long run? There are washcloths in the bathroom (you can’t assume European hotels give washcloths so it’s always a pleasant surprise) and thick white bathrobes. Breakfast: I have to highlight Zsofia, an outstanding waitress at breakfast. Zsofia remembered us and served us our exact coffee order without even us even asking. I was so pleasantly surprised and thankful. Zsofia was friendly, efficient, and did an outstanding job. Breakfast foods included wide variety of items such as: Made to order omelettes, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, fresh vegetables, fresh cut up fruit (not mixed together) which is my favorite way to serve fruit (Fresh grapefruit slices!), a wide variety of cheeses, pastries, breads, gluten free bread, fresh juices, yogurt, pork bacon, 2 types of sausages, mini hot dogs, mushrooms, hash browns, and even a little Lebanese corner where you could find some Mediterranean type of breakfast dishes (I loved the olive salad). The tea selection was all by Ronnefeldt Tea, which was lovely. They had vegan milk options for cappuccinos and teas which was really nice. Seating at breakfast is lovely- if you arrive early enough or just get lucky, you can have a window seat where you overlook the Danube. Breakfast is located in the Lebanese restaurant in the hotel. On weekends, around 9 AM, breakfast is crowded and there can be a line to be seated. Seats were completely full on a Sunday morning and we were told to sit in the bar area if we didn’t want to wait, which ended up being very nice, actually- one just had to walk back and forth a bit farther. Location: The location of the hotel is outstanding. Being on the Pest side, we were able to walk to the Christmas Market at Vörösmarty Square and we could walk to Elizabeth Square, where the Ferris Wheel is located. We used Bolt (via the app) to get to restaurants in the Jewish Quarter (I recommend Mazel Tov) and to City Park for ice skating and the baths. Bolts can easily access the hotel’s drive up entrance for drop off. Transportation: From the airport, we simply walked outside up to the FoTaxi counter, and paid at the counter, and were immediately assigned to a specific FoTaxi to get to the InterContinental. It was easy, efficient, and only 11680 FT (about $33 USD) one way from the Budapest Ferenc Liszt International airport to the hotel in a station wagon type of taxi. This was a lower price than the hotel car (which would have been about 100 Euros in a Mercedes V Class). When we went back to the airport for our departure flight, we simply ordered a Bolt on our app, and it was able to pull up in front of the hotel entrance. Club: The club lounge view is fantastic. It’s located on the 1st floor. They have looseleaf Ronnefeldt Tea. The staff there are excellent as well. Hotel Restaurant: We ate at the Lebanese restaurant in the hotel one afternoon and the food, service and view were all fantastic. The Intercontinental was able to give us an early check in and late check out to accommodate our flights which was extremely helpful. I called about a week in advance of our arrival to inquire about this and the woman speaking with me was so helpful. I absolutely loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again and recommend it. Try and get a room with a view because it’s worth it. Budapest is a magical city this hotel was a wonderful place to rest while exploring.…
