Whether you live in Budapest or have come from further afield, you are sure to fall in love with the atmosphere of this quiet island in the centre of the vibrant capital. It’s no coincidence that the Margaret Island wellness hotel, with its thermal water springs, has been the choice of generations! The hotel caters to visitors seeking medical treatments or wellness pampering, as well as those looking for a venue for their business event or wedding. Outside the hotel, guests can take part in various sporting activities (from running and rowing to tennis and cycling), while the footpaths connecting the historical sites of Margaret Island are perfect for a stroll. You may not want to return to everyday life after a visit to the island of peace!

Detailed Reviews
We stayed at Ensana Thermal Margaret Island for a night 4 family trip to Budapest with our 6 and 8 year old children.
The hotel is situated on the north of Margaret Island, which is in the Northern area of Budapest.
The Ensana Thermal is a lovely modern hotel, we were welcomed by a friendly reception team who took our bags and stored them for us until our room was ready.
Our family room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed; separate room with sofa bed, desk and toilet for kids. Large bedroom with king size bed, large bathroom, lots of storage. Fridge/ mini bar, kettle, nespresso machine, toiletries, hair dryer, robes and slippers. The balcony was large too, with table & chairs and sunbeds. The only negative was that the balcony needed a good sweep, there was lots of dust and cigarette buts on there.
The spa area to the hotel was great, it contains an outdoor pool with sunbathing terrace, indoor swimming pool, spa pool, thermal pool, sauna, steam room and aroma room. The children were welcome in the pools, but it’s worth nothing these are relaxing pools, so not for games and splashing etc. If that’s what they want, the Palatinus Strand outdoor pools are on Margaret Island and only a 10-15 min walk away.
Breakfast was served buffet style, in a large and light restaurant with options to sit in or outside. The staff were attentive and helpful. There was a good selection of food to choose from to suit all tastes.
We found staying on Margaret island at the Ensana Thermal provided us with a relaxing and tranquil place to come back to after a day of sightseeing.
It’s worth noting that (apart from Margaret Island) the hotel is a good 30min plus walk away from the centre of Buda or Pest. This did not bother us, but it might some. We found the walk south through Margaret island to the Margaret bridge a nice way to start / end the day with the kids. There’s lots of other ways to get around too; with bikes/ buses/ metros/ boats/ taxis, so if you don’t fancy walking it’s still easy to get around.
Overall we loved the hotel, and will hopefully be back in the future.

It's been a while we've been to the place (at that time it was still Danubius), but if anything, it has only become better. Rooms have been renovated and redecorated with very good quality materials, and everything is very well maintained. We did have a problem with our family room that was quickly solved with an upgrade to a suite. All rooms, however, are spacious and offer nice views.
The location is fantastic for those who like green areas and dont mind that the city centre is a bit of a walk or metro/bus ride away. Buda castle, for example, can be reached on foot within 50 minutes.
The hotel's spa facilities are fantastic. Several pools, steam bath, sauna (separated), and massage and wellness offers make your stay complete.
Breakfast is lavish, and you can easily turn it into a brunch, too. Their half board has no a la carte option, but there is a bistro in the reception hall for those who prefer the latter. Food is very good, and it comes with a good choice of wines as well.
The entire staff is very welcoming and polite, and will go out of their way to accommodate any request.
A wonderful trip, and we have already planned our next stay in a few weeks.

We're often coming to this hotel because it offers exactly what we want in one single place: great spa and nature all around.
Service: Great Hungarian hospitality. Friendly, professional, welcoming, and happy to go out of their way to accommodate everything possible.
Rooms: The suite offers a living and a sleeping room, with the living room able to sleep two more people if necessary. There is a toilet in each room, the bathroom is en suite to the sleeping room, though, and offers both a walk-in shower and a tub. Everything is clean and pleasant. The balcony offers nice views over the island and towards architectural delights.
Breakfast: Wide range of everything including Hungarian delicatessen, great taste, impossible to leave the place hungry.
Spa: Wonderful. Finnish sauna (separate female/male), steam bath, aroma bath, sports pool, and several thermal pools including a whirlpool. Enough space, so never feeling like a cramped spot.
Suffice to say, if you like spending time in nature, the island is an oasis away from the rush of the city.

The hotel is generally located in a very nice and quiet setting on Margaret Island. It was was a pleasure to sit on the balcony and watch the sunrise over the Danube.
The Spa area was very nice and I particularly appreciated the large Whirlpool and the hot pool at 38C. Very relaxing after a long day.
The public transport is very well linked to the hotel and in 30mins you are easily reaching the center or railway stations.
In the hotel the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Thanks for that. As well the other staff in the Spa and restaurants were very nice and guestoriented.
In peak times in the morning and evening, sometimes the WIFI was very slow, but it general it worked adequately and even teleconferences were not a problem.
Concerning the food: breakfast was good, freshly made omelettes and eggs and a large buffet. Unfortunately no fresh juice or sparkling water.
Concerning dinner food, there is area for improvement. The span was from a good mushroom ravioli to an ok pulled pork sandwich to a ribeye, where I regretted that the animal had to die for that one. Even the nice smile of the service didn't save that one.
Another small thing is that the air conditioning could be a bit cooler in the room for a better sleep.
In general nice and pleasant stay and I will certainly come back.

We are visiting Budapest several times a year, and this hotel is our first and only choice. Admittedly, every now and then we are checking others, however, nothing compares to their location and facilities. Another plus: coming here so often means seeing familiar faces from the employees, and with their natural hospitality this is always a big pleasure, too.
We took a Suite and a Junior Suite this time, located on the 8th floor on the Parliament side of the Danube - meaning splendid views, especially during sunrise.
Their spa is fantastic - 3 hot pools, a whirlpool, a sports pool, a steam bath, an aroma bath, and a sauna (women and men separated), both with an ice pool. Pure relaxation guaranteed. If you have kids who like to get hungry - dont worry, a small bar area will ensure they wont starve.
Breakfast offers a lot of choice including Hungarian specials, tables are placed apart properly, so fear not about eavesdropping on others, or vice versa.
With the hotel being located on Margaret Island, activities for everybody are available right at your doorstep.
Coming back in February 25, and we can only recommend this place to everybody.

Very nice hotel located in Margaret Island, a real green lung of the city.
Professional and thoughtful welcome, spacious room with a nice bathroom in which the toilet also has the bidet function (water jet), perhaps not congenial to our standards but not all facilities have it.
Buffet breakfast with every good of God except sweet products (for me it is not a problem but there are not many).
The Spa area is fantastic, with 5 indoor pools and another outdoor pool but open only in the summer months, ranging from 28 to 38 °. Of course there are different types of saunas. Being Budapest famous for its thermal baths, I tried them all with satisfaction. The only note is that, for unknown reasons, saunas are divided between men and women instead of shared as in Northern Europe (and beyond).
In Margherita Island it is very easy to find people jogging, walking, cycling... making your stay extremely quiet.
Although the central area is about 3.5 - 4 km from the hotel, it is easily accessible by public transport, really organized and easy to use: just make a subscription for 2-3 or more days and apply to all means of transport (tram, bus, trolleybus, metro).
If I return to Budapest (x I am absolutely worth it), I will still return to Ensana Thermal.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay in this hotel. Some of the staff in this hotel are very rude and have spoiled my experience here. I had a member of staff snatch cutlery out of my hand during breakfast because our table had no cutlery on it when we arrived, so i went to get some, and this member of staff grabbed it out of my hand on my way back to the table.

We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. I've been many times in Budapest, but for the first time I stayed on Margaret island - a fairly big island with lush greenery in the middle of the mighty Danube river, little bit north from the city center. Hotel is located at the island's northern tip accessible only via the Arpad bridge.
To access the hotel you must enter the island's public parking lot pressing the "Hotel" button. You have two options to park - outside for around 13 Euros (5000 HUF) and in a garage for 20 Euros (8000 HUF) per day. Quite expensive, and they raised the charges from the time when I booked, and at the same refused to give me the lower rate stated in my booking. Not a nice gesture but I had no choice, so one star down for that.
Hotel exterior is pretty much dated, looking just like the 70's when it was built during the Communist regime.
Contrary to that interiors are very modern, seem recently renovated.
Check in was fast, given an hour and a half before check in time which was a nice gesture of a kind receptionist.
Room was very nice, spacious and modern with a balcony with seating overlooking the Danube and city center. Very comfy beds and spacious bathroom with modern toiletries.
Breakfast is really amazing - huge choice of everything you might think of. Freshly prepared eggs, hot and cold dishes, cold cuts, cheese,...
Main star are the thermal pools of course, included in the room rate. There's one outdoor pool and several indoors. Room temp varies and it was very relaxing to enjoy all of them along with steam rooms and sauna.

Fabulous hotel. Clean, friendly, accommodating. Rooms were lovely (we had interconnecting rooms as a group of friends which was perfect), with the added bonus of a lovely balcony to sit with a coffee in the morning sun, and super comfy beds. Bathroom was well equipped and the shower was huge! breakfasts were incredible and food from the bistro/coffee shop was lovely too.
Spa was just lovely - clean, well equipped and the treatments we had, whilst not cheap, were excellent. The thermal pools were an absolute high point - relaxing after a day of walking and sight seeing was perfect.
The location of the hotel was also perfect for us - walking around the island each morning, but easy to get transport to sights of interest. Great location.

Food was decent, the location superb, however the staff were dismal. There was one waitress (Lara from Boroka Bar) which was the shining star, as for the rest of the staff, everything was an issue. Never a smile never a friendly greeting, always a mumble and groan when we ask for something.
We witnessed one incident at the thermal pools where a young “life guard” verbally abused (in my opinion) and elderly
lady because she was in a pool that was closed. The moment the lady left the pool, he removed the sign and everyone could have access so the entire display was unnecessary and rude. Never a need to speak to an elderly person as he did, let alone a lady.
When you order a coffee, before you have even finished ordering you are being asked how you will pay.
I think there are most likely much better hotels in this beautiful country of Budapest.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Sincerely, Péter Mácsai General Manager

Staying now July 23 it was 27 euros each
I’m not a huge breakfast person, so opted out of the half-board and instead had a coffee and something light at the open bar in the hotel lobby (they had a variety of pastries, cereals and healthy puddings). For dinner, again I would eat something at the bar - they had a varied menu with healthy inexpensive choices. Have fun!
Hi Karen. I think we paid prox 10.000 - 12.000 Huf from the airport.
To walk from the island up to the bridge takes 20 - 30 minutes. I do not know the total walking time to the different attractions.
We found it more easy to take a taxi when we wanted to leave the hotel , prox 3000 hut,
My daughter downloaded an taxiapp, to use when we wanted to return. The app uses gps to find the exact place you are standing, and also tells you the time it takes until you will be picked up. With the photo, name of the driver, and the car number. Fantastic😊The hotel can give you the app name. Do not just stop a taxi in the street, it can take overprice.
It is also possible to take a local bus to West chopping center, and walk from there to the centrum/ shops/ restaurants
No, but in a room by the stairs you can find one (nearby the elevator on each floor)
