Rest in surroundings fit for an aristocrat A stay at the Grand Margaret Island will leave you feeling like royalty from the turn of the 20th century. The fin-de-siecle architecture is as elegant as it comes, and huge windows offer stunning views over the Danube or the ancient trees of Margaret Island. If you’re after a little pampering – or indeed treatment for a medical condition – you can take advantage of the wellness facilities at the adjacent Ensana Thermal Margaret Island, fed by the mineral-rich thermal springs that emerge nearby. The sister hotels are linked by a heated underground tunnel, so you don’t even need to set foot outside. The hotel’s range of top-quality facilities and services, and its leafy location in the middle of the Danube, make it a popular venue for conferences, weddings and other events. Margaret Island’s lush parkland is perfect for relaxing strolls, while sporty types will appreciate the fact there are running paths, tennis courts, bikes for hire and a swimming pool within a stone’s throw of the hotel. Furthermore, the hustle and bustle of the city center is a short hop away by public transport – you can even take the ferry there!

The hotel maintained a high standard throughout. Food options at the time were limited- a self service buffet that was uninspiring or service from the bar. I fond the staff generally friendly and helpful. So much so, it came as a disappointment when I settled my bill. I had an amount of local currency remaining from my stay. I asked if I could use this towards my bill and settle the remaining balance wit my credit card. This was agreed. I handed the reception staff my remaining currency and used my card for the balance. I noted that the currency remained on the desk top and was not placed in a till as I left. Having returned home and since viewed my bank statement, I was shocked to see that the total bill amount had been debited from my account! So where did the currency I had surrendered go? I contacted the hotel and they were unable to account for the surrendered currency. I will not be returning to this hotel.

The location is the best thing about this hotel. Margaret Island is beautiful. It’s nice to be able to get away from the city to quiet. The hippie village is really close and has a range of bars with great food and the best garlic bread. The hotel spa is lovely. Really clean and nice facilities. Breakfast is nice. One thing is there is no evening activity or bar which means you need to go out. Would recommend.

Generally I only write positive reviews on this site but I feel the need to write a review which isn’t 100% positive to help the hotel and the customers as the hotel appear to need help. The hotel is good on the whole. Quality feel. Well maintained, however it isn’t without issues. 1) the communications to guests are awful. The kitchen closes at 10pm and has done since April 2022 but the menu in the bar says the kitchen closes at 10:30pm. Then on the hotels own tv channel on the room service page it states “room service between 6:30am - 10:30pm, after that a cold plate can be ordered from reception dial 4”. Don’t bother trying as it’s a myth as the kitchen closes at 10pm and that’s the end of it. As you’re stuck on the island there are no other food outlets nearby. So please plan ahead and ignore us the incorrect comms directed at the customer. 2) the outdoor pool is tiny considering it serves guests from two large hotels. 3) some of the staff come across as dismissive. In fairness, If your schedule does allow you to eat at the buffet restaurant in the evening, then the food is high quality and the staff in the restaurant are very nice. Please be aware that if you stay at the grand hotel all of the facilities are based at the thermal hotel next door. Apart from breakfast which is onsite. I hope the issues above can be addressed as the hotel could be really fabulous and I’d like to be able recommend it all !

I stayed here for a week, second visit (first was in 2019 & it hasn’t changed, I loved my stay). The Ensana Grand is one of only two adjacent hotels (the Grand and the Thermal) on Margitsziget Island, owned by the same company and sharing facilities. The Grand is quiet and historic, the Thermal more modern and lively, and also seems to be a venue for large conferences. The hotel seems quite old-fashioned and a bit soulless in style, public areas are sparsely furnished and nothing goes on there after lunch (no bar etc as it’s all in the other hotel) but everything is very clean, the decor is new, the bathrooms are recently upgraded with an excellent shower and (despite the hotel being very full) my room was extremely quiet. All the staff were lovely. The thermal spa (in the Thermal hotel, accessible from the Grand by a tunnel) was fantastic, with hot tubs and a large swimming pool plus sun deck. Free access to spa for guests of both hotels. Breakfast was very good. The location on Margitsziget was extremely convenient for everything I needed to do, plus the island is large and very beautiful - its mainly parkland with fountains, flowers and opportunities for walking and riding bikes on the paths by the river. Bike hire is readily available nearby. However, be aware that there is nothing by way of restaurants, shops or bars on the island, other than a couple of tiny cafes on the far end and the facilities of the Thermal Hotel. Having said that, it’s very easy to hire a bike and ride into the city centre on dedicated bike paths, there’s also a water bus which is a beautiful way to travel and very cheap (but doesn’t run that often) or by ordinary bus and tram it takes around 20-30 mins or ten minutes by taxi to get to the heart of the city.

Stayed at the Ensana Group’s Grand Margitsziget or Margaret Island Hotel 9-11 May. Easy check in with clear directions on spa and pool access. There have been some renovations, more repainting and redoing bathrooms; the room retained the classic furniture. Better rooms face the park, other face the Danube Gearing up now for the season (had been mostly closed during Covid) e.g. restaurant is good for buffet breakfast, was good, but dinner etc. at the larger Thermal Hotel (did buffet one evening EUR18, all good from vegetarians, light, healthy through to standard fare/room service too), bar/terrace not open yet, but probably very soon… very nice anytime, now the spring proper and Margaret Island very green and lush. The Grand Margaret is a classic hotel, more adults, the other i.e. larger Thermal probably better for families/kids with more room choices Top tip, you can find YouTube under the Otrium info/tv menu (think Guest Services), not channels. Got a fruit basket for my birthday which occurred while staying, nice touch. You use the pools/spas at the other Thermal Hotel but there is a tunnel -1 below ground level; easiest access at first is to use the door next to the main lifts next to the lobby area about 150 metres (bring flip flops room dressing gown) towels provided at the pool check in; show room number).

I booked a stay for my partner and in November and the property has been trying to get me to cancel or move to accommodate a large booking. They have mentioned no discounts and are charging me the same amount to stay in their other properties even though I can find them cheaper online. The reservations people seem eager to push me out of their property rather than accommodate someone who had confirmed months in advance. Due to the strict regulations of the event on Covid-19? This all seemed very unprofessional - Being someone who works in the hotel industry this is exactly the type of service that leaves a sour taste in your mouth for certain brands.

We needed a break after a death in the family and we decided to book there after exchanging some mails with their very helpful customer service. I must say we had a wonderful stay, it was everything we needed at the time. Our room (3rd floor) was very comfortable and quiet. Buffet breakfast was good and plentiful. we had dinner or lunch a couple of times at the restaurant (live music every night) and it was very good. We enjoyed a drink most nights at the lovely bar. The spa is very clean and with everything you need to relax. But what made our stay really enjoyable is the personnel. Everyone has been so kind and attentive to our needs and it really made the difference. Many thanks to the whole team at each level, and specially to Gina, Laszlo and Tomas at the spa. Geographically, the situation is perfect to visit Budapest via a short bus drive, while being in a really peaceful environment. My only recommendation to management would be to replace those plastic cups at the spa by more ecological ones.

We had a very relaxing and pleasant experience in the Grand Margaret Island hotel. Very Grand, beautiful and clean hotel, both in the rooms and at the spa. A place where you can enjoy your very good breakfast with the park view, have a walk in the park, and then get into the hot tub in the spa, relax and later on you can get the bus behind the hotel and have a drink in the city center! (My only (very very minor comment) is regarding the time that the hotels restaurant closes at night. The spa is open up until 21:30 at night, so it's a good idea that you can extend the restaurant's hours up to 23:00, as for guests being at the spa have the change to enjoy their dinner).
