I chose this hotel for one night as it was near to the location I needed to be. The room was slightly smaller than expected but was clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful and pleasant. The downside to this room was the amount of noise coming in from outside - at all hours of the night. Also, the aircon didn't seem to work and there were no instructions ...... Would def come back to this hotel and just would ask for a room not facing the main road.
Have given a poor rating as I felt whilst the hotel has a lot to offer, there was quite a bit of room for improvement. Upgraded our room to superior as the standard bedroom was just too small for 5 nights. USB points didn’t work so they found us another similar room in which they worked. Unfortunately weather was warm and bedrooms were very overheated. This was in May. No matter how low we set the air conditioning, it was uncomfortably warm especially during the night. Had flannels been provided in the shower room, at least they could have been dampened & used for cooling yourself down. The safe failed to open the following day & needed maintenance to fix it. Apparently the battery had failed. On the plus side, the shower room in the superior room was more spacious & towelling robes provided proved useful for pool & spa use. At breakfast, vegans were catered on the first breakfast of our stay. There was a vegan porridge available plus plenty of fresh fruit & a selection of plant-based non-dairy milks. Unfortunately on day two, there wasn’t any vegan porridge but a semolina I think it was, made with cow’s milk. Ditto another dairy-based porridge variation on day three. The vegan porridge reappeared on day four. We asked the kitchen to make us some vegan porridge, which they did, however it was more like a thin gruel than a thick porridge unlike the one served on our first morning. The above-ground, outdoor, rooftop pool was great to use, as the weather was so warm. Didn’t use the indoor pool. Not the largest pool but it really didn’t matter too much. Very helpful pool staff especially Christina I think it was. It would have been lovely if there was some sort of pergola or parasols on the rooftop to offer some protection from the sun. I appreciate it might get too windy for parasols. The hotel has a lot to offer though really needs to upgrade its rooms to ensure the air conditioning is more effective and that everything works well. Especially in warm weather. It would be good to see a vegan porridge offered daily too. This seemed to work for vegans & non vegans alike, as far as we could tell & would be easy for the kitchen to provide. The mezzanine bar area was very nice. The massage area was okay though nothing special. Whilst the massage therapist was competent, the 60 minute massage oddly included only massaging the back of the body which was disappointing as it was too long covering just that area. It would have been much more enjoying had the front of the body been included as well. Could be so much more comfortable if improvements were made. Staff were friendly & helpful at all times. Unfortunately am finding it difficult to forget the over-heated bedrooms.…
We visited the bar here for after-dinner drinks. It is a beautiful and relaxing place - and good value for money, by hotel bar standards. The decor, on the mezzanine, is most impressive and this is a remarkable, historic building. Service was very friendly and helpful.
We stayed at the Continental for 6 Nights early May 2022. I had this holiday booked since 2020 but it got cancelled due to the pandemic so rebooked March 2022. I will add before starting this that I very rarely write bad reviews but feel people should be aware what they’re paying for. I booked a standard room via another website which gave me a good deal. I was incredibly excited as the building looked beautiful, seemed like a good location, nice rooms and great facilities. We arrived at our room and it was a great size and bigger due to it being a corner room. It was sweltering hot so we turned the air on right up. After 30 mins we noticed the air con wasn’t working so my other half went to the front desk to ask for a fan and someone who did not speak great English followed him up to the room to show him the air con but we explained it didn’t work very well. We were eventually moved to another room with supposedly working air con. However after a few hours of being in the new room, we noticed there was the same issue as the original room so spent the entire week boiling hot and sweating every night. The bathroom was also very small so whenever someone showered the entire room just heated up, even with the bathroom door shut as ventilation was just so poor. Our shower screen also wasn’t great. After every shower we had to use a towel to soak up a massive puddle on the floor. The mini fridge didn’t work very well either. Only slightly cold and the thing kicked out some serious heat trying to keep it slightly cold which probably contributed to the temperature of the room. We also noticed that some days the cleaners would change the sheets and others they would just make the bed even if the sheets were dirty which was frustrating. We should’ve mentioned something but after causing a fuss over the air con we thought we had caused enough trouble but it was still annoying all the same. The wellness centre isn’t as big as what I thought it was from the photos. This was also disappointing. If people wanted to actually swim in the pool, you’d get no more than 2 people in and even then you wouldn’t be able to swim very well due to the short length of the pool. We also needed parking for 6 days which I thought was incredibly expensive ESPECIALLY for Budapest! €21 per night so €126 for our stay. My partner and I are also vegetarian & vegan and we had breakfast at the hotel 1 morning and were very disappointed with the choices and again the price. €30 for the two of us. We had been out just down the street to some lovely little bistros and cafes who had fantastic options, lovely food and cost much less than what the continental were charging so I would highly recommend just walking down the street for 5/10 mins and finding some lovely little gems. I will say that most staff were lovely and friendly and helpful at times. The building, entrance and lobby are also stunning but the beauty sort of stops at the entrance and the rest of it looks like a regular hotel. It wasn’t the worst hotel I have stayed in but it definitely wasn’t the best. If I were to return to Budapest I’d book an apartment for more space and much less money. I didn’t want to write a massively negative review but other than the option to use the wellness centre, The Continental offered nothing more than a usual hotel so I don’t think the price is justified. Overall the experience was ‘meh’ which was very disappointing having read good reviews and knowing it’s a 4 star hotel.…
The hotel is beautiful, good located with tasty breakfast. Staff was friendly and helpful. There are a lot of bars, restaurants and locations to visit near the hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable. The only thing is that the indoor swimming pool is small. Everything was perfect during our stay. Recommend. I would come back again
This is a great place to stay if doing a quick city break, my partner and I stayed for the valentines weekend and the whole experience was fine - nothing more nothing less! If I was to return to the city, I think staying closer to the Danube would be slightly more aesthetic. My two issues with this hotel was our experiences with the staff; we found every person we interacted with to come across as quite harsh and like they had something better to do? Almost felt as if we were unwelcome - which is worrying considering its a hotel and the most important thing should really be guest satisfaction! The other thing was the cleanliness of the rooms; honestly it really wasn't great. Don't get me wrong it wasn't completely filthy it was just the bathrooms kind of looked like they hadn't been cleaned a great deal after the last guests.…
My friend and I stayed here as a treat for our 50th birthdays, we stayed 3 nights and we loved every second. When we checked in they upgraded our room, as it was special birthdays which was lovely of them and then to our surprise we had a bottle of champagne in our room too with a card from the manager, it was fabulous. Apart from that the staff couldn't do enough to help us, always smiling, helpful and polite. The hotel is beautiful, breakfast was delicious and was a good location for walking to anywhere. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the beautiful city of Budapest.
On arrival we were greeted in a very friendly way and were given plenty of information about the services that the hotel provided The breakfast room was very well stocked and catered for all . The room we had was spacious and clean and when we looked out of our window, as we were facing to the back of the hotel there was a mural painted on the opposite wall of an old fashioned street which looked lovely. The only down side was that the restaurant wasn’t open at night The staff were very helpful and the towels were changed every day We will use this hotel again when we go back to Budapest
Just home after 4 amazing days at this hotel. Room lovely , we had a double deluxe which had a kingsize bed which was super comfy. Shower has got to be the best hotel shower I’ve ever had, really powerful at all times of the day, Staff are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble and breakfast was a great selection of both hot and cold food and set us up for the day. Location spot on, a few minute walk to the ruin bars and to the nearest bus stop, so very easy to explore. Rooftop pool had just opened and was nice to have a quick swim in the morning. Great value for money and will definitely be returning. My only negative is that I didn’t have longer in such a beautiful place.
A very nice hotel in the centre of Pest, great for exploring both sides of Budapest. The hotel from the outside looks ordinary, but is far grander inside. The check in/out service was smooth and the rooms are to a decent standard. The price we paid was around £80 per night, which is well worth the money. There are many cafes, bars and shops within walking distance and a tiny little coffee shop next door. Only downside to our stay was the room service. They never changed the bedding at all in our 5 day stay. Also we only got one towel for the two of us, even though we asked for additional towels at the front desk. They simply just tidied the rooms, which was disappointing. Overall would recommend this hotel, just make sure you bring your own towels.
