A hotel in a historic building, of which, however, only the facade has remained. A very good standard as always with Union, but without character and without any real elegance. The room was on the inner courtyard (no one knows why), comfortable and clean - though with an annoying patina in the bathroom, perhaps from a wash rinse done too hastily - but with some signs of poor care: the TV covering the mirror, the towel rack in the bathroom with holes from an attempted fix gone wrong, the door skirting boards flayed. Breakfast is a disappointment compared to 4 stars ranking: how is it possible to leave on the buffet counter marmallet in the industrial packaging bought at the supermarket? or serve a tea from the unknown brand, not even Twinings? But the worst thing, however, is the wellness space. The juncture with the hotel next door, InterContinental, an IHG Hotel, is really modest and without any architectural attention: you have to walk through a narrow corridor, carved out of the service spaces, with unpleasant blocks and peeling to the ceilingsmall, just to join the wellness space, always overbooked and therefore crowded and with few loungers compared to the number of users, without rules, with only one artificial sauna (the other, for three people, with a temperature so low that no one, rightly! uses it); the pool - not really a swimming one! - then, is cold. Another very disturning thing, acytually very personal: on the hotel site it appeared already completed the payment and therefore the withdrawal from my credit card, when it was not so. Obviously, it's a matter of bad communication and annoying malfuction of the site, therefore a matter of design and web management and of the interface with the administration, yes but.... they blocked my keys to enter the rooms until I paid. Simply unacceptable for, I quote, "The first class hotel in Ljubljana".…
Well located hotel in the center of the city. We parked our car in a parking very close to the hotel. The room was very clean but, unfortunately, our room had not a view (we just could see the air duct of the the ventilation system ). The bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was good and international. All the staff was very kind. We suggest this hotel (but ask for a room with a good view).
Very comfortable clean and friendly staff I love the room and the break is amazing..they have a bus shuttle to the airport which is great. It’s more of a business hotel . I love the way the staff are friendly and helpful . The location is equally good
The hotel is absolutely fantastic and the manager could not have been more helpful. We had booked a family suite but the team gave us a free upgrade to the largest suite in the hotel! The quality of the food was excellent and the location is fantastic. The Christmas markets in Ljubljana are stunning. We would like to make a return visit in the summer at some point and if we do, we will definitely stay at the Grand Union. I can’t recommend it or the beautiful city of Ljubljana highly enough.
Brilliant location, 1 min to the Three Bridges. Since being managed by Eurostars, has upped its game. Staff super friendly and generally excellent. Rooms feel a little dated but comfortable and clean. Breakfast is a buffet and is fine. If you want a modern 5* hotel, stay at the an Intercontinental. If you want a very central location and are fine staying at a 4* with good staff, stay at the Union.
We arrived at Grand Hotel Union on a Sunday late afternoon. It was rainy and crowded with many arrivals. We had a confirmation for a three night stay, unbeknownst to us the lady at the front desk moved us into their sister hotel, which is adjacent because they overbooked the hotel. The hotel was very ordinary, marginal and the breakfast was like you were eating on a budget ocean cruise. Not impressed at all. The front desk was no help to us what so ever. Asked for dinner reservations and said everything was booked. A must to make reservation if you want to eat in the old city. Further, It turned out there was another area to check in for The Grand Hotel and the front desk didn't tell us about that or moving are rooms. The cathedral is charming but note, the clock tower rings every 15 minutes. Would never stay there again, worst hotel experience in the month we spent in the Balkans. I would stay at the InterContinental…
Kavarna Union: FOR breakfast is AMAZING! We were there for a food conference The European Food Summit and have to say starting the day in the elegant breakfast room wifh such kind help from Sanel, Ruza, and chef assistant Vishnu M Raj. 5-Star and highly recommended
We had spent a night in that hotel more than 30 years ago. As we had liked it a lot, we were hesitating to stop over there again for fear to be disappointed. However, that was not the case at all. Warm welcome at the desk by a smart man who had been at the front desk for more than 30 years. He upgrade us to a suite on the 4th floor with a grandiose view over the city center and the castle. Everything was impeccable. The breakfast was superb, full of healthy food, and excellent coffees and cappuccinos. The garage is underground, well connected to the hotel lobby.
The chief virtue of this hotel is its location on the edge of the pedestrian zone in the old city an easy walk from the river, the castle, and all of the chief attractions of Ljubljana. Getting past the location, this is a classic old European hotel, which means the rooms are small with little storage space for clothes, the bathrooms tiny, and the shower a little challenging. The bed was comfortable, but with the odd feature of some older European hotels of having separate covers for each person in the double bed. And the temperature controls didn't seem effective. However, the included breakfast was very good and served in a grand old room with very high ceilings and old world charm. All in all, I prefer this hotel over a more modern hotel that is not convenient to the old city. But your preference will be guided by your priorities.…
Our guide told us that this is THE place to stay in Ljubljana. And we had a very nice stay. We stayed in the Presidential Suite. Room 346. Very spacious and super quiet. Heated bathroom floor was a nice plus and I imagine it would be even more appreciated in winter months. Very good breakfast buffet and an unbeatable location near bars, restaurants, pedestrian areas, etc. We would stay here again.
