You're here because you want to ski. The ski lifts and ski schools are across the street and there are only 2 big hotels in this small resort. So this review is not so much to help you choose but to tell you what to expect. On the plus side are the proximity to the slopes and the free parking. The hotel is clean and the accommodation is spartan and functional. The younger reception staff are on the whole courteous, knowledgeable and helpful but the manager is downright rude. On the downside, the family rooms are a bit tight especially since there are not many other places to relax, the room temperature cannot be changed and the bathrooms do not ventilate well. You want to call down to reception? Sorry, no room phone! There is a 20m indoor pool, a kids' pool and a warm tub but they all close down at 7pm, which is a shame since there's not a lot to do here in the evening. There are lockers in the basement for your ski equipment but no elevator to get down there. Food is average hotel buffet fare. Considering the room tariff, the hotel is not good value for money.

Hotel is very close to the slopes and the city center, which proved to be very convenient. The staff is courteous and professional so we felt welcome. The warm swimming pool and the children's playroom is definitely a plus. The selection of food could be a bit better for a 4 star hotel. Overall it is a great value for money.

We stayed here for a one week ski holiday as a family of four, children are age 10 and 7. This was probably the best ski holiday hotel that we have ever stayed in. We had a family bedroom with Austrian twin beds, bunk beds and another spare single bed. The bedroom was a very good size and lots of storage space. It was overheated and we needed to leave the window a little open at night to cool it down. Bedroom was spotless, room serviced each day, and our sleep was never disturbed. The Intersport Bernik ski school meeting point was around 200 metres away and the slopes and ski lifts start here also. Hotel Kompas provide guests with a free ski locker in the basement of the hotel - luckily it was not so busy when we were there so we had two ski lockers, it would be a huge stuggle to get four sets of skis and boots in to one of these lockers. There was no snow when we visited (Febuary) and this seems to be an issue for Kranjska Gora resort in recent years. The snow machines generated snow on the piste and that was fine for us, but might be a bit frustrating for more experienced skiers looking for more of a challenge. We were on half board, breakfast and dinner was on a self-service buffet basis. Breakfast was just OK with lots of breads and pastries but more limited for fresh fruit and hot food - they had scrambled eggs on some days and some very fatty/streaky bacon and chicken sausages. Tea and coffee is from a self-service machine and was just OK, also they had a range of juices in jugs. The buffet dinner was hugely appreciated after a day of skiing with a vast range of meat and vegetable options, all of it very tasty. I would imagine that even fussy eaters would find at least one or two things that they like. You had to pay for drinks with dinner but these were reasonably priced in our opinion. The hotel also laid on a mini-disco on three nights of the week and there was a supervised games room with table football, ball pit, slide and a range of other entertainments for children - however provision of these entertainments might be dependent on demand and may not always be available. The swimming pool was smallish, around 15 metres long, and there was also a baby pool and a jacuzzi and we found the water temperature to be comfortable. We tried the swimming pool at the sister hotel, Ramada Resort across the road, which Hotel Kompas guests are allowed to do - it was bigger but definitely a lot colder than the Hotel Kompas pool. All in all a great holiday and the staff at Hotel Kompas couldn't have been more helpful.

Great hotel.. clean, friendly and great location. Food ok.. just nothing seemed to really go.. all tasty just a little random at times.. bar and reception staff were friendly! Pool was a little cold and didn’t try the spa area due to not wanting to pay 10e.
