This is one of those truly special places. Our stay is for four nights, and even though its not at the end yet I felt I should write this review. The location is perfect on the lake with rooms that have both lake and park views. The hotel is practictising and taking covid19 precautions with additional cleaning, signs, masks etc.

The staff here our fantastic from the reception staff who always greet you, to the wonderful dining staff who make every meal or drink a pleasure. Eye contact and a big smile that doesn't feel fake is the order of the day.

The hotel has a great history regardless of whether you loath or love the man behind it. The style is 1950s boutique not a favourite design of mine but there are too many good points to let that be of a concern. The rooms are very clean and large for the location especially the suites. The lake view is lovely but you stop noticing it when your actually on the lake. Although it is a pleasure to open the curtains in the morning. Being so close to the lake I wouldn't recommend leaving your windows open all night are whilst the rooms don't have ac they do have ceiling fans.

The food is very good but I never saw any of the tasting menus i saw mentioned but this may be because of corona. Their recommended wines are equally as good just ask the waiter. Their desserts are to die for, so delicious.

Breakfast is a very large affair with so much choice and variety. You can choose to dine both inside and out but if the weather is nice choose outside as the lake views are so stunning. I booked a massage at the hotel which was very good and I do think they should promote this more as they should the wellness centre. May people love Spa hotels nowadays. The hotel bar looks nice but we never used it. I believe there is a large snooker table through there too. The ballroom is on the first floor and well worth a look for the propaganda tapestry installed by Tito.

The hotel has a private beach are that is really nice and next to it there is a boat rental place where you have access to a boat every day for an hour for free which is great.

The staff down there are very helpful.

Many of the staff are multilingual which is good too.

In closing I think this is a fantastic hotel, made better by a great team of staff.

Our room is 314 as shown in the pics.

The views of Lake Bled, its island and Castle Bled are wonderful and you get a rowboat to take out on the lake.

The rooms are a bit utilitarian but fine for the price. They are decorated with scenes of striving heroes of socialist labour from the Tito era. Drab and depressing though the pictures are, one has to admire Slovenia for acknowledging its imperfect history while the West “cancels” its own.

The staff are pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and varied. Laundry was returned in a few hours. The spa gave great massages.

That said, there are some potential deal-breakers which you need to be aware of.

There is no air-conditioning. The ceiling fans and absence of bugs despite a lakeside location made this quite bearable.

There is no coffee machine even in the suites. At these prices, buy a coffee machine! We did.

The dinner menu is tiny and never changes. We had a car and were happy to explore the many excellent restaurants in the area.

It is no longer pet-friendly. This will probably prevent our return in future.

We stayed only for one night in the suite that has a view over the lake. You really are taken some years back which I like, but for this reason I think this hotel appeals mainly to a bit of an older crowd or maybe even to young people who appreacite the old things. We also took advantage of the fact that 1 hour boat rental was included in the price and we rowed to the lake on our own. The room was great, just the bathroom has an old touch to it which some people might like, other might find it outdated. We also visited the coffeeshop to which you have to climb quite a lot of stars but the view is worth it and the prices are normal compared to some of the other coffeeshops in Bled. The breakfast had a nice variety of food (champagne was also available, if you are used to staying in fancy hotels you might expect a bit more even but there was enough overall) and the view is absolutely gorgeous.

My partner and I booked Vila bled for our wedding day in May 2019. The time leading up to our wedding especially the last 2 weeks were extremely stressful due to our dealings with the hotel management.
I would urge a very strong word of caution to anyone looking to book Vila Bled for their special event. There are better hotels in Bled who will treat you with basic decency and respect.

What went wrong:
1. We were initially told we could only have the wedding ceremony in a dingy room in the basement in case of bad weather which at the time the establishment did not even hold a valid license for. Relentless negotiation later we were able to convince them to let us use the café in case of bad weather but we were not allowed to re-organize the tables and chairs. This attitude extended to everything from menus to setting up; there was not a single area where they tried to work with us to meet our needs. Their first response to every reasonable inquiry was no.
2. On the wedding day itself, they were understaffed, inefficient and service during dinner was so slow it took 4.5 hours instead of 3 hours. As a result our dances were cut short and some of our guests had to leave. Worst thing is the hotel staff lied/misguided our guests who had mobility issues about not being allowed to drive to café. There are a lot of uneven steps leading to the café and we had already agreed with the hotel that guests with mobility issues will be driven but they failed to provide this service on the day. As a result some of our close friends missed our first dance and cake cutting.

For the money we paid including rooms that do not represent a fair price for the condition, the service we received was horrible. When we complained to the management listing the issues in detail, they were dismissive of our grievances, did not apologize and left a really bad taste in our mouths.

Change the management, train them on basic hospitality skills and customer services and we might consider coming back and recommending your business.

We would like to complement the florist for his service. He was the only positive dealing we had.

Response from Maja B, Public Relations Manager at Hotel Vila Bled
Responded Feb 10, 2020
Dear guests, thank you for taking time and giving your point of view presenting it with a very detailed opinion. We take each review very seriously, especially if it lists issues that did not meet your highest expectations, which we always strive for. We deeply regret any such failure and please allow us to apologize to you, as we have not succeeded so far. You will be glad to hear, that since the event took place, more than eight months ago, several changes and modifications have already taken place. We have new hotel management that has upgraded our work processes, which will hopefully prevent any slippage in the future. In addition, we have renovated most of the hotel rooms and hotel interiors, or the renovation is currently underway. Nevertheless, one has to take in mind, that Vila Bled is historic building, with some limits that have to be considered if one chooses to have his event take place in such special location. We deeply regret the stressful moments you have experienced during planning your special day, and we sincerely hope that the positive aspects are outweighed and you will keep your wedding day as one of your precious memories. We can guarantee that in the future we will do all we can to meet the guest’s expectations. Hopefully you will give us an opportunity to correct your opinion.

So this should have been an incredible few days. It wasn’t. Just lots of things that didn’t click. First the positives. Building impressive if a little dated. Gardens beautiful. Location great - although a bit of a walk into town but we liked that. Breakfast was varied and good. A place to swim. Hire a boat to get onto the island.

The negatives? The hotel felt quite dead and lacked atmosphere-partially due to COVID ? Staff were pleasant but not that helpful and just uninterested. I think this is the first time in a hotel I have not been asked whether I enjoyed my stay on check out. Bathroom was ok but at this price I don’t expect to have to hold the shower head in one hand while trying to wash my hair because the shower pole only reached shoulder height. The bar shuts at 10 pm and when we entered the bar the pianist stopped playing and stared at us ( the bar was empty).
The final straw was an ‘event’ taking place which resulted in general areas of the hotel ( including the terrace which was a big factor in our choice given views) being out of bounds and armed non uniformed security guards asking if we were guests when we returned from our walk. We had been given no pre warning by the hotel. Despite the hotel being quite empty (again not their fault as Covid) they placed us right next to the conference room they were using for the event, with the hotel room on the other side of us being used ( we think) as a meeting/spill over room of sorts - meant loads of guards, and we were woken up at 7am by yelling, people running outside our room, and the clatter of drinks trolleys.
Overall throughout our stay it felt like we were not welcome/an inconvenience.

There is no better location in Lake Bled than this historic hotel that sits beautifully apart from the others and with easily the best views of the lake and island.
The terrace pavilion is wonderful with uninterrupted views to the lake and so peaceful as it is in the hotel’s private gardens.
Free boat and bike hire is a bonus to enjoy the lake and reception staff are very good.
I had a suite which was enormous and very comfortable-perhaps the only thing that stops this review being 5 stars is that the rooms are dated and in need of a revamp.

Yes, the furniture is slightly outdated and the whole place feels a bit like a time capsule. But there's no better place in Bled to learn a bit about Slovene history while enjoying a borderline luxury experience. The breakfast boasts a variety of foods - some better than others, but their dinner was what impressed us the most. Additionally, you get to enjoy a private beach and renting a boat free of charge. The views from this place are absolutely breath-taking, especially in the old cafe Belvedere.

We have just arrived home from a holiday in Slovenia. We stayed at a hotel in Ljubljana for most of our trip but decided to treat ourselves to luxury one night stay at Villa Bled after falling in love with lake bled itself. We arrived late afternoon and were greeted by friendly, welcoming staff. The room was beautiful and spacious. Most amenities were to a high standard. The bed was extremely comfortable. However, it had a fan instead of air conditioning and in the heat found the bedroom to still be quite warm. For the price you pay I think air conditioning should be guaranteed. The bathroom was lovely but the shower was in the bath and not as practical as we would of liked. Breakfast was outstanding- a huge variety of choices. Sitting outside eating breakfast was truly magical overlooking the lake. The hotel has a private ‘beach/ swimming area’ which is amazing- lifeguards are extremely friendly and can’t do enough for you. Thank you Villa Bled for a lovely stay!

This hotel is not for everybody. If you like hightech stuff, modern design, pool, gym this is not for you.But if you enjoy a classical style hotel with a touch of history- this has been Tito’s summer retreat, the best view in Bled then look no further. Rooms are very big, with living room and bedroom, breakfast is good, free parking, free boat ride, and the chance to swim in the cristal clear waters of the lake on a private “ beach”. You can rent bikes- it takes 1 hour to make a complete tour of the lake.

The views from the hotel over the lake are simply breathtaking.
We stayed in a suite which was basically two large rooms, sparsely furnished with a
dated bathroom. However, it was spotlessly clean. There is no airconditioning but a ceiling fan and large windows which could be opened wide to let in through air.
Food at the restaurant was very good in the evening and it was lovely to sit on the terrace whilst eating, however it is advisable to book before arriving at the hotel as it does get very booked up. Breakfast was basic but adequate.
We spent one afternoon on the deck on sun loungers where there is easy access for swimming in the lake - definitely worth doing if weather permits.
This is not a luxurious hotel but certainly memorable and the grounds and views more than make up for the lack of luxury.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to that. Eastern European countries are all about very fresh meats, fish, wonderful chesse and of course veggies. Everything is very fresh. And the view from the patio restaurant is sensational.
