Detailed Reviews
This hotel has a lot going for it. It's moderately priced. Quiet. Offers a very nice traditional Polish breakfast (cold cuts, bread, juice, coffee, yogurt, cereal). It's walking distance to the beautiful Old Town Market Square (Stary Rynek). We've stayed here on three different occasions. The building is modern and the bathrooms are clean. And there are photos on the wall of Polish celebrities whom I've never heard of. I highly recommend dining at Bazanciarnia (pronounced BAZ-AN-CHAR-KNEE-YA) in the Old Market Square. Outstanding food and a regular destination when we're in Poznan, which is more often than I'd ever imagined.

I stayed in room 52 at the hotel. Quite spacious and silent. No air conditioning, however, and no international TV channels directly available. The breakfast is very okay. It takes you 15-20 minutes to walk to the old market square and 15 minutes to walk to the railway station. The Royal Hotel was the headquarter of the Polish uprising in Poznan and the area around in 1918/1919. If you want to know more about this uproar, visit the excellent museum about it in the old market square.

...delicious breakfast, great location. But be warned: single rooms look like Harry Potter's cupboard under the stairs ;-)
Parking at the hotel is tiny, the service directs visitors to another, situated at some distance from the hotel.

Good staff but reception and restaurant is in different building than the rooms. To go to room from reception we hade to go outside while it was snowing. We had to go upstairs on the steps and felt like we would go to the attic. Room looked nice but on the last night our bath with massage broke up and we had a lot of water in the bathroom. We had to move into different room which we were told that it is the same standard- it wasn't true. Room had view on the wall on opposite site and had simple shower. I wouldn't recommend this hotel- it is too expensive for this bad standard.

I spent 3 nights in Hotel Royal, and I had a great experience. The rooms are really cozy, clean, with good atmosphere. The Breakfast was really good, many kinds of different foods, that can suit for everyone. The location of the hotel is excellent - 5 minutes walk from the old town's square, and in walking distance from the main attractions in the city, and 5 minutes walk from the central bus and train station. And most importantly - the staff was very kind, helpful and polite.
Highly recommended!

I stayed in the hotel for a weekend and must admit that this was one of the worst hotel experience in my life…
Although location of the hotel is good (walking distance both to railway station and old town) and breakfast is really ok, there is nothing positive about this place.
My room was dark (windows facing the inner yard that is used as a car park) and cold. It was clean but the bathroom was stinking (pipes). Internet was slow but working … the worst was yet to come – the paper walls and paper door will keep you awaken every time someone is passing by and talking laud, closing or shutting door or even making a coffee downstairs. From 8 am the cleaning ladies were doing the job on the floor where my room was located shouting their private stories to each other … but next night was a nightmare. Thanks to the fact that it was Saturday drunk people started to come back to the hotel around 1-2 am … singing, shouting and jumping … ok I can understand that, but I was awaken till 3 am thanks to the couple having VERY loud sex – while in the other room two guys were overturning furniture and singing…. To my surprize no one reacted and I can bet this could be heard around the floors.
I do travel a lot but this is the first time in my life I experienced something as horrible as this place. Will never ever visit Hotel Royal again….

Pros: very clean, staff is hospitable and helpful, good breakfast
Cons: WiFi didn't work in 3 of the 7 days I was there, paper thin walls, tiny beds,
Rooms are very poorly equipped - not even a hair dryer, you have to ask the front desk for an iron (forget about getting the iron board), windows face to next building so privacy is a problem too, no air condition.

The Hotel Royal was recommended to us for its convenience to the railway station. With luggage, it is an inexpensive taxi ride from the station to the hotel, and an easy 15 minute walk without. The hotel is also close to Old Town, an enjoyable walk away.
The staff is helpful and personable. If you're lucky, you may meet the warm and friendly owner, Janucz, at the hotel bar. For a small extra fee, breakfast will be waiting for you in the morning in the cheerful dining room. There you will find coffee, juices, eggs, meats, fruit, yoghurt and breads. The hotel does not provide any other meals.
Hotels in Poland don't seem to provide soap, in our experience, but they may provide shampoo or a bath gel. The Royal Hotel provides a shower gel, so be sure to bring your travel soap and shampoo, etc. If you need a hair dryer, just ask at the front desk. They will also hold your laptop and valuables when you go out to explore Poznan for the day.

I stayed at the Royal for 6 nights, so I got to know this place very well. The rooms and bathrooms are nice and in good shape, the cleaning crew is always working, and there's always an English speaker at the front desk. Expect the desk attendants to be helpful but not over the top warm and welcoming. The morning coffee is excellent and the breakfast if good, although the menu doesn't change day to day. Free WiFi made a big difference, as perhaps one channel on the TV would have occasional programming in English. I enjoyed the location, which was central to Poznan, and surrounded by some good restaurants, pubs and things to see. I would stay here again. It's not super chic, but has enough amenities is a good value.
Things to note in Poznan: movies are in English with Polish subtitles at the Stary Browar Multikino, which is a 10 minute walk. The Ministerstwo pub is a few blocks away from the Royal, and has microbrews you've never seen before. Across the street from the Royal is the Sphinx restaurant, which has an English menu.

Yes there is small supermarket just on the othrer site of the road.
Depends on where the furniture fair is. You should be able to plug the address into Google Maps and get a distance. For example the Train station is about 10-15 minutes at a good pace. Plus the Tram system is very handy and only about 3 blocks away from the Hotel Royal.
