Basic budget hotel but we have no complaints as we were only there really to sleep in.
Staff spoke very good English and were always helpful.
Breakfast was appetising and the room although needing a little TLC were comfortable and clean
We were surprised that we had to ask for the room to be cleaned but again we weren’t spending enough time in it for it needing to be cleaned every day.
There was no mirror in our room only in the bathroom which was a bit inconvenient
There’s no hairdryers provided in the rooms but they are available from front desk if you ask.
We did eat an evening meal there which was excellent
The hotel is close to bus and rail station and town is just a short walk away
Would we stay again? Probably as it was comfortable and clean enough for what we needed

Pretty basic hotel but did the job considering we weren't in the room too much. The room itself was very hot!! And considering we visiting in March when it was -2 we genuinely struggled to cool it down! The restaurant for the evenings is good prices & good food. The breakfast (that we paid extra for) was average. Good location overlooking great views though! we had to ask at reception for a hair drier as they aren't supplied in the room.

this hotel is in a great location with no street noise. staff at reception are very good and will do all they can to help you. A good breakfast is served up until eleven each day, it is a ten minute walk to bus station and a little less to centre of town and also to cable car.there is a bar in hotel which closes around ten, and a restaurant which was very good. rooms are spacious with a great view. zacopane when we stayed from january the fourth until the eight was simply a winter wonderland,my wife and i got exactly what we wished for and at a great price.

I stayed 6 days at Hotel Helios and I must say it was an experience like going back in time to communist Poland. Whereas the hotel facilities are acceptable, the real problem are the reception middle-aged ladies who really should get a proper customer service training. I felt more like in a hall of residence or boarding school in which receptionists behaved as if they were the real bosses. Be prepared for being shouted at and interrogated which room you are in, hotel main doors being closed at 8pm with reception unattended and you being stuck in the cold as well as any of your queries (or requests) being likely to be met with patronising answers as if you were scolded by a teacher. The hotel has very good location but the ladies at the reception (especially Malgorzata) should rethink how they approach hotel guests.

If you are travelling to zakopane by bus here are a couple of tips we found when we got the bus from krakow airport. You come out side and right in front is the free bus that takes you round the bend to the metro, you can buy a ticket here on the train for ten zlotys, this will take you right into krakow train station, leave here and look for exit and go down the stairs on the left ,once down take a left and go to the end go up the stairs and at the end of the street on the left hand side is the bus station,Here you can get a bus that goes all the way to zakopane you buy your ticket off the bus driver this is about 18 zlotys. This will take around two and a half hours. When we got to zakopane bus station we got a taxi for 15 zlotys to our hotel. A cost of about £8 each in all good value for money ,we priced a taxi and this would of been around £ 70 - £ 80.

3stars hotels in Zakopane is not among the cheapest in Poland. Therefore the 2* Helios is still a very good alternative! Ten minutes’ walk from the bus station and less from the main street, located in an area without traffic and all rooms facing the Tatra Mountains! It still has the quality it last time I was there three years ago. The staff in the reception was helpful and spoke adequately good English, the Italian Restaurant has the best breakfast you will get in Poland!

Travelling from Cracow to Zakopane: It shall be possible to go by train, but the buss are much faster (2 h), more comfortable and cheaper (20 zl or €5) so unless you are a train enthusiast, take the bus! Most of the day it goes 2-3 times per hour. Szwagropol has very comfortable busses, some of the other companies may use smaller and less comfortable busses.

This hotel i priced as a hostel but appears as a very good 3-stars hotel with a very good Italian restaurant where also an excellent breakfast is served! Located in a park means no trafic noice. If you are located on the 2nd or 3rd floor, you don't even have to draw the curtains and can view the Tatras day and night. Free WiFi on all floors, walking distance to railway/bus-staion and center of the city. What more can be said? I was travelling single, but was already upgraded to a double room when I arrived. Be aware: The single rooms are small compared to the relatively spacious dobles..

This our 2nd year at the Helios, should have been our 3rd but snow at Heathrow in 2011 prevented departure for 5 days. (HOTEL HELIOS charged us nothing for non arrival). The hotel has good sized rooms with comfy beds, 2 comfy arm chairs,a colour flat screen tv (Polish channels), radio, telephone and full free Wifi throughout the hotel. Reception staff are friendly and helpful as are the maid/room service. The onsite restaurant provides first class meals at a very resonable cost. Can't fault hotel, restaurant, service or location. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

I stayed here with two friends the summer of 2010. The hotel rooms were basic, the sleeping space was small - felt like we were in a dormatory, but really, we were only there to sleep and change so it was not a problem. On hot summer nights and bright summer mornings,we did wish that our windows opened and our curtains closed though! It was hot in the room at night and we had to wake with the sun! The view from our room was amazing, however, and a lovely scene to wake up to.

Room aside, the hotel location was PERFECT for our needs. The breakfast was good (though I don't think I will ever become accustomed to the Eastern European way of scrambling eggs--- too much liquid egg for most North Americans' taste, but hey, when in Rome...) Everything else on the buffet was great! We were able to check our e-mail on the lobby computer and we found the staff to be friendly and helpful. They helped us arrange a bus tour that included a tour of Niedzica Castle and a wooden raft trip down the Dunajec River. And they helped us locate the restaurant Chata Zbojnicka, a dining experience that every visitor to Zakopane MUST experience. (Hint... if they don't open the door for you when you knock to be let in... keep knocking! You won't be disappointed if you have any sense of adventure! :-)

If (hopefully "when") we return to Zacopane - we might opt for a place with more of the local character, but I have no real complaints about this hotel and the view and location are ideal.

I did not like the hotel at all. The main reason was the reception staff, who was unfriendly, unhelpful and unapproachable. The room was furnished in a bad taste and the sink in the bathroom was leaking. The hotel is located near the main street, is cheep and the breakfast was ok, so if it wasn't for the bad experience with the lobby staff, my review would be much higher.
