We decided on Tramp as it's a walking distance from several family members living in the area - we stayed over the Christmas period. It's located in an old, run-down neighbourhood. Had I not grown up in the area, I would be vary of staying there; not dangerous, but not exactly pretty. The downstairs dining area has recently been renovated and is quite pleasant. Breakfast gives you 5 sets to chose from (no buffet), all freshly prepared, so quite nice. There are quite a few lunch/dinner options to choose from, very reasonably priced. Not restaurant grade food, more of a twist on home cooking, but overall very nice. Keep in mind that vegetarian options are extremely limited - a salad & a couple of soups. Attended several functions there as well and the food was always good & generous amounts. As for the room...it was bad. Straight up dirty. Grey, sticky floors, limescale & soap residue on the tap & shower, damaged walls, spider webs... Bathroom fan not working, so a slight mustiness in the air was inevitable. It was bad enough, that my partner had to talk me down from trying to find another place to stay at 4am the night we arrived. The beds are very tough, more daybed style so no mattress, and pillows had to be folded to give any support. There was a wardrobe with no hangers and 5 out of 6 drawers damaged so they couldn't be used, so we kept all our clothes in the suitcase. Made me stop complaining about Travelodge for sure! Thankfully staff are nice & keen to help if you ask. I will probably swing by there again for food but wouldn't stay there overnight again.

On approach to the hotel I couldn't help but notice the surrounding area wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing. The hotel is set in an area that has buildings - some derelict - covered in graffiti. It's not somewhere I would like to walk about on a night. The staff were very friendly apart from one barmaid who was very rude to my 91 year old (at the time) grandad as he was trying to decide on what to have for lunch - she didn't have any patience at all. But generally the staff were helpful and they have someone downstairs on a night at the bar if you fancied a beer. I recommend Tyskie - it cost me 90p a bottle at the time and was beautiful. My room was great, very spacious twin but they put my mom and aunty a tiny twin room that when you stood in the middIe I could touch both walls !! It made no sense but maybe it was an oversight - the rooms were clean and the hotel was quiet The food was nice but the selection was very limited. Overall it was a nice budget hotel
