This was my second trip to Olsztyn (4 years apart) and this time, during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 crisis. Normally, I stay in very simple, cheap hotels, but this time, I wanted a bit of extra reassurance and the Hotel Dyplomat had some of the best ratings in town, so despite 747 PLN/£154.91 for a 3 night stay being well above my usual price point for Poland, I had no hesitation in paying it for peace of mind. I was here for an outdoor summer concert at the beautiful Olsztyn Amfiteatr and was arriving by train from Warsaw . The hotel is equidistant between the main railway station and the concert venue - less than a 15 minute walk in each direction, so very convenient. Bartosz welcomed me on reception and was so happy and cheerful, he left a lasting impression and I skipped up to room 208 with a smile on my face because he was so genuinely nice. I was delighted with my room. It was inward facing which meant I didn't need to worry about any street noise, even though the street the hotel resides on is very quiet anyway. There is some construction going on (July/August 2020) but as I had no intention of spending my days sitting in my room listening to the sound of cranes and drills, this was of no concern to me. The bed was so comfortable, there was a GOOD fan (much needed as it was 31C when I left Warsaw and although Olsztyn was cooler, it more than made up for the lack of aircon). Tea/coffee making facilities, plenty of sockets to charge my devices, a large, well-lit bathroom, a powerful shower, lots of immaculately clean fluffy white towels, a large tv with a decent mix of channels. The only slight negative was that the toilet didn't have the greatest flush and due to COVID-19, there was no housekeeping/cleaning throughout my stay. Normally, this would be a plus for me as I don't like anyone entering my room when I am in a hotel at the best of times, but I feel like the hotel should have provided extra provisions to make up for the lack of housekeeping, like an extra toilet roll or an extra few bottles of complimentary mineral water. Breakfast was ok, I felt like it was much better at the weekends (again, due to COVID, I accept that things may be different to normal but I found that the week day mornings were quite basic/poor and the weekends were a full on banquet!) I slept perfectly during my stay here, everything felt very comfortable and safe, the hotel was quiet, I barely saw any other guests except for a few at breakfast. I must mention Bartosz again as he really helped me out printing out my boarding pass and concert ticket and called my room when it was ready. Just first class service - such a lovely guy. I would have absolutely no hesitation in staying at Hotel Dyplomat again, in fact, it would be my first choice. Keep up the great work!…
